Gujarat’s Chemical and Petrochemical sector

► The well diversified chemical industry of Gujarat has complete portfolio of chemical products, including petrochemicals and downstream, pharmaceuticals, dyes and intermediates.

► Gujarat contributes 15% of the country’s chemical exports. Bulk of this goes to USA, Europe and other developed nations – a clear sign of global competitiveness.

► The 3 cracker complexes at Hazira, Vadodara and Dahej have a total installed capacity of 1,180 KTA. Another cracker is being built at Dahej by OPaL.

► Gujarat accounts for a refining capacity of 86.2 MMT out of the country’s capacity of 177 MMT as on 1.4.2009, i.e. 48%.

► Being laid down between Delhi and Mumbai, DFC is a

new rail transportation system with high axel, multi

modal and computerised features

► 38% (564 km) of the 1500 km length of DFC will pass

& Trading Hub’ in two phases (6 nodes) – supported

Employment Generation in PCPIR

► Existing industrial units have given direct employment to 13,220 persons

and indirect employment to 46,270 persons.

► Additional 30,000 direct employment will be created in the upcoming units.

This will provide 90,000 indirect job opportunities.

► Additionally, thousands of persons are employed in construction activities of

industrial units, residential townships, infrastructural works etc.

► The large scale economic and industrial activities undertaken in PCPIR

would also generate self-employment opportunities

Investment by Anchor Tenant - OPaL

► ONGC Petro additions Ltd (OPaL), a joint venture company promoted by ONGC, GAIL & Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), is investing Rs.19,535 crore (USD 4.3 bn) in a world scale 1.1 MMTPA multi-feed cracker in the SEZ. Construction has commenced.

► MoU with Anchor Tenant signed on 22nd January 2010.

► ONGC has set up C2/C3 extraction plant at Dahej – construction completed. Investment is about Rs.1,000 crore (USD 222 mn)

► Dahej SEZ Limited, a joint venture company of GIDC and ONGC, has developed a 1,719 hectare multi-product SEZ.

Infrastructure Commitment by the State

► GIDC has spent Rs. 499 crore for infrastructure works within PCPIR.

► Plan to spend Rs.401 crore on additional works.

► Total Rs. 900 crore

Road Connectivity

► Construction of coastal highway, main roads, State Highway No.6, green buffer zone

etc. at a cost of Rs.253 crore.

► Bharuch-Dahej State Highway has already been upgraded to four lane at a cost of

Rs.115 crore Further up-gradation to six lane is planned.

► Rs. 80 crore committed by State Government as Viability Gap Funding for road

projects taken up in PPP mode.

Socio-Economic Development in PCPIR

► PCPIR Welfare Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act, has been formed as the

nodal agency for the socio-economic development of the PCPIR.

► GIDC charges an additional amount of Rs.15 per sq. mtr. of industrial plot allotted. An amount

Rs.22 crores so far collected as such put at the disposal of the Society.

► GIDC is operating a water supply scheme set up at a cost of Rs.8 crore to supply potable water

to 5 villages located in the Dahej estate as also villages located outside.

► Dahej Health & Welfare Society registered to set up a 50-bed modern Hospital at Dahej at a cost

of Rs.18 crore. This hospital will become operational within one year.

► PCPIR Welfare Society to modernize Pakhajan PHC at a cost of Rs 55 lakh.

► 2 Skill Up-gradation Centre buildings constructed.

► 258 land losers being provided vocational training at GIDC’s cost (Rs.1,500 per month being paid

as stipend to 233 village boys from PCPIR pursuing skill-upgradation training)

► Model anganwadi-cum-livelihood centers to be built by GIDC in all the 44 villages of the PCPIR.
