Who’s involved in Enviroschools?

Imagine… a generation of innovative and motivated young people who instinctively think and act sustainably…

Enviroschools is a programme that supports schools to create a vision of sustainability for their community and work towards making it a reality. Children from schools, kindergartens and kura kaupapa taking part in Enviroschools to become role models of sustainability to their families, and wider, communities.

How does Enviroschools create sustainable communities?

More than 100 Bay of Plenty families (or 83 per cent of surveyed parents from 14 Enviroschools kindergartens) reported their children had told their families about the environmental learning at kindergarten such as energy, water and reducing waste. The study was part of national research to capture the impact of the environmental programme on families.

Families stated that they actively try to live in more sustainable ways by consciously reducing car use (61 percent), minimising waste (100 percent), making changes to reduce energy use (88 percent) and growing their own food (85 percent). Parental involvement is encouraged, and 97 percent of families are supportive or very supportive of the programme.
