KPC and KOC CEOs Nizar Al-Adsani and Hashem Sayed Hashem were recently briefed about the test-ing process that new graduates and technicians must complete as part of a new requirement by all K-Companies. Deputy CEO (Administration & Fi-nance) Saad Al-Azmi, Manager of the Training and Career Development Group Qusai Al-Amer and TL Recruitment Adel Al-Ansari provided an explana-tion of the testing process, procedures and stages.

In a statement he made, Al-Adsani praised the well-organized testing procedures and the extreme care that went into the planning and implementation of the process.

Meanwhile, Al-Amer said that according to KPC’s decision, the Company is now responsible for test-ing and interviewing all candidates for technical positions. The same applies to candidates for po-sitions in the fields of petroleum engineering and geology.

For his part, Al-Ansari said that the testing process includes English language and specialization tests. This is then followed by an interview.

Association of Corrosion Engineers Honors KOCCompany honored for its contributions and support

A delegation from the West Asia and Africa Chapter of the Association of Corrosion Engineers, represented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi and Dr. Faisal Al-Motaher, recently honored CEO Hashem Hashem for KOC’s outstanding contributions and support for the association.

Hashem was specifically thanked for the Company’s effort to adopt surveillance and protection programs against corrosion, in addition to KOC’s participation in international workshops and conferences. KOC, they said, provided technical working papers and led many technical meetings in the field of corrosion during those events. The Kuwait Branch of the Association of Corrosion Engineers also recognized KOC for supporting their second conference on corrosion, which took place recently.

During the meeting, Hashem was briefed on the efforts of the Inspection & Corrosion Teams from both North & West Kuwait and South & East Kuwait. The two teams are led by Saleh Al-Sulaiman and Abdel Razzak Al-Shammary, respectively. Both teams have made efforts to provide technical papers for international conferences and journals, in addition to registering staff in coordination with the Career Development & Planning Team for specialized training programs in the field of inspection and corrosion.

KOC Attends ADIPEC 2014Senior KOC officials accompanied by Minister of Oil and KPC CEO

KOC recently participated in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (ADIPEC 2014) which took place under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Company’s delegation was presided over by Deputy CEO (NK) Emad Sultan, and was accompanied by Minister of Oil Dr. Ali Al-Omair and KPC CEO Nizar Al-Adsani.

During the event, National Security Adviser and Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Hazza’ bin Zayed Al Nahyan, visited the Company’s booth at the conference’s exhibition section.

KOC employee Mohammad Bader Abdullah, an Engineer from the Fields Development Group (NK) obtained a significant achievement during the event by winning the Young ADIPEC 2014 Conference Engineer Award.

The participation of KOC at the conference, which is regarded as one of the three most important global events in the oil and gas industry, is part of the Company’s strategic commitment to be a visible actor in regional and global forums, and take advantage of development opportunities and the exchange of experiences they offer.

ADIPEC 2014 attracted more than 1,600 exhibiting companies this year at 21 international pavilions. It witnessed the participation of more than 60,000 professionals in the field of oil and gas, and about 6,500 delegates and 600 speakers from 111 organizations in 37 countries.

3rd Annual Social Forum for Retired & Present Oil Sector Leaders

The 3rd Annual Social Forum for Retired & Present Oil Sector Leaders took place recently at the Regency Hotel, where KPC CEO Nizar Al-Adsani hosted other senior officials from a variety of K-Companies. CSD DCEO Ismail Abdulla represented KOC during the event.

During the forum, speeches were delivered by KPC CEO Nizar Al-Adsani, KNPC CEO Mohammed Al-Mutairi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee Riad Saleh, and Committee Member Fadhel Al-Ali. All speakers stressed on the unity of the oil sector, its achievements, and the need for regular meetings such as the one that took place at the Regency.

The event included a dinner function where current and retired leaders exchanged words about current work, past experiences and future plans.

CEO Hashem Sayed Hashem was recently presented with a copy of “Introduction to Petroleum Engineering.” The book was prepared by Senior Reservoir Engineer Fahad Al-Faresi from the Reservoir Growth Project Team.

In a statement he made to Energy, Hashem upheld the efforts put forth by Al-Faresi and maintained that it was imperative for civilized society to put science and learning at the forefront of its efforts. He then wished Al-Faresi further progress and success and said that he looked forward to any future material he may publish.

For his part, Al-Faresi maintained that the support displayed by the CEO was encouraging for other researchers and for the field of scientific research in general. Al-Faresi also expressed his belief in the importance of scientific research and the benefit it has for the progress of society.

The book itself describes petroleum engineering science and specialties. It is one of the few books about this subject that has been published in Arabic.

KOC Takes Part in Kuwait Flow Measurement Technology ConferenceSenior officials and international participants in attendance

The Kuwait Flow Measurement Technology for Oil and Gas Conference took place recently at the Hilton Mangaf. The event, which was sponsored primarily by Kuwait Oil Company, focused on technology related to hy-drocarbon flow measurements and featured the participation of a range of international representatives from the oil and gas industry.

Event organizers maintained that the specialized conference was the pre-mier event for discussions and information related to measurement technol-ogy that is utilized by the oil and gas industry.

During the event, Hasan Bunain, DCEO (WK), upheld the importance of hydrocarbon flow measurement technology, which he said has the potential to have an impact on both the environment and economy. Staying ahead of flow measurement technology, he maintained, was therefore important for both KOC and the State of Kuwait.

Chairman of the technical committee of the conference Senior Engineer Loss Control at KOC Rashed Al-Marri also had a brief opening speech.

Other DCEOs in attendance included Ismail Abdulla, DCEO Corporate Services, Saad Al-Azmi, DCEO Administration and Finance, Jamal Jaffer, DCEO Planning and Commercial and Esam Al-Houti, DCEO Major Projects and Technical Services.

NKD Successfully Achieves “Zero Disposal to Pits” GoalAll effluent water in NK is now treated and disposed of safely

As part of efforts to live up to the Company’s HSE obligations, Emad Sultan (DCEO - NK) recently announced that North Kuwait has achieved an environmental milestone by successfully implementing the “Zero Disposal to Pits” effort.

Officials maintained that this recent achievement in North Kuwait is important because it safely and effectively disposes of effluent water that is associated with the production process. The “Zero Disposal to Pits” effort involves collecting effluent water and safely disposing the material in designated injection wells. Before the injection process begins, the effluent water is treated through new and specialized Water Treatment Systems and a new Water Center in North Kuwait.

It should be noted that the “Zero Disposal to Pits” project in North Kuwait is the culmination of efforts by a variety of teams from the Company that implemented the project in phases. Through their work toward a common goal, the Company is now proud to announce that it has successfully achieved its stated objective of eliminating the need to dispose of effluent water in pits in North Kuwait.

This achievement was a cooperative effort that required detailed planning and integration, well drilling and completions, new flowline installations, modifications and additions to existing Gathering Centers. It was sustained with the recent Major Projects commissioning of a central effluent water re-injection facility.

2nd Quarterly Performance Review Meeting for WKDirectorate performance and future goals discussed

KOC Presents Paper at 35th GCC Production & Maintenance MeetingPaper outlined the management of obsolete oil equipment

Kuwait Oil Company recently presented a technical paper titled “Management of Obsolete Equipment in Oil Projects,” at the 35th GCC Production & Maintenance Meeting, which was hosted by Qatar Petroleum in Doha.

The paper defined obsolete equipment, ways to identify them and methods used to mitigate their loss, malfunction or risks to production facilities and operations. The paper was well received by the participants because it embodied the reality of Kuwaiti expertise that is consistent with current international practice.

TL Maintenance II (EK) Abdullah Al-Ajmi said that the paper was able to offer comprehensive solutions because of KOC’s experience with the providers of such equipment, in addition to the expertise of employees who are familiar with the equipment in question. A workshop was also held which focused on how to extend the life of equipment.

Meanwhile, TL Maintenance Support & Reliability (S&EK) Nasser Al-Attar maintained that these meetings between NOCs from the GCC are held in order to share information, best practices and create closer ties between the companies.

The Company’s delegation was headed by Manager Operations Group (EK) Hamed Al-Mutairi. Also in attendance was Manager Production & Projects (Gas) Ali Al-Kandari, TL Production (NK) Bader Al-Kandari, in addition to three of the Company’s young engineers.

The West Kuwait Directorate recently held its second Quarterly Performance Review Meeting for 2014/15 in the presence of DCEO (WK) Hasan Bunain, Group Managers and Team Leaders from the Directorate.

In his opening speech, Bunain commended the efforts that have been made to achieve the goals of the Directorate in general, and to commit to HSE roles in particular, through activities and projects of the Directorate.

The meeting also reviewed the financial performance of the Directorate through a presentation that was delivered by the Financial Reports Team.

Waleed Nasser, Team Leader Planning (WK), also delivered a presentation that discussed the Directorate’s performance. The presentation revealed that 83% of KPMs have been achieved since the first half of the current fiscal year.

At the end of the meeting, Bunain encouraged all employees to uphold their performance in order to successfully achieve the goals of the 2030 Strategy.

An HSE Performance Review Meeting was recently held under the auspices of Ayad Al-Kandari, DCEO Drilling & Technology. Abdulwahab Al-Rakdan, Acting Team Leader HSE (D&T) welcomed those in attendance before giving the floor to the DCEO.

In a statement he made during the meeting, Al-Kandari reminded those in atten-dance about the need for preparations that will be required for the accommodation of an expanded set of rigs that is set to take place in the near future. He also advised everyone involved to be prepared for the heavy rains that are forecasted for Kuwait

this season. In addition, Al-Kandary upheld the importance of regular meetings to review D&T HSE performance.

Following the DCEO’s comments, Safety Engineers Ahmed Al-Shatti and Mona Atesh discussed the Directorate’s HSE performance for the quarter. This was fol-lowed by presentations from HSE Consultant Ashok Garlapati and Safety Specialist Sampath Reddy.

Port Operations Team Wins 2014 Seatrade Maritime AwardAward obtained in the Safety and Quality category

The KOC Port Operations Team recently celebrated a significant achievement after they obtained the Seatrade Maritime Award in the Safety and Quality category, which is given to companies that excel in safety and quality improve-ment initiatives. Excellence in technical and procedural improvement initia-tives, which reduce the hazards and risks of life at sea, are the main areas that are observed. Judges look for evidence of growth and advancement in several aspects of the initiatives, including investment in safety training, changes to the safety culture of the company and improvement of lost time accidents, when relevant.

In a statement to Energy, Al-Murtaji described specific investments made in

safety training at the Port Operations Team. These included the rewriting of the entire Port Operations Manual to enhance safety and quality, the imple-mentation of international Risk Management techniques, specially designed simulator courses for Pilots, the arrangement of a task-force team for a simulator study for the LNG terminal (for Q-Flex sized LNG Carriers), in-house training for Pilots and various other improvements.

The obtainment of the Safety and Quality Award demonstrates the Company’s eagerness to advance and uphold its notable achievements. These initiatives have enhanced the Company’s culture of safety and quality, which can be seen in the renewed enthusiasm among employees for quality performance.

The Team responsible for the Kuwait International Petroleum Research Center (KIPRC) recently held its 29th monthly Project Management Office (PMO) meeting at the KOC Guesthouse in order to review the overall status of the project with key stakeholders.

The meeting was headed by Research & Development Group Manager Bader Al-Khayyat and was attended by employees from a variety of upstream and downstream K-Companies.

Management Support Group Manager Shehab Abdullah recently hosted a lunch gathering for Group employees with the aim of creating direct communication among all parties. This communication, he said, greatly enhances the team spirit of the Group while also acknowledging their needs and concerns through open discussions.
