Message from the Chairman
Dear friends,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the 9th Asian Oceanic Society of Paediatric Radiology Congress, organised by the College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia in collaboration with the Asian Oceanic Society of Paediatric Radiology (AOSPR) in Kuala Lumpur in November 2009. It is indeed a great honour for us in Malaysia to host such an important event in imaging of children.
The two oldest and largest formal specialties within radiology are paediatric radiology and neuroradiology. Thus, paediatric neuroradiology is a bridge between them both. Therefore, most appropriately, “Paediatric Neuroimaging Revisited” is the theme for AOSPR 2009 KL.
This meeting will be a platform for keeping up to date with developments, trends, technological advancements and clinical applications in this challenging subspecialty. We invite you to present and share your experience relating to diagnostic, therapeutic and research aspects of paediatric neuroimaging.
While educating yourselves with scientific and medical presentations and discussions at the AOSPR 2009 KL, I hope you will find some time to enjoy our beautiful country with its rich and diverse cultures, amazing cuisine, great shopping and friendly people. I am sure the comforts and attractions in the metropolitan city of Kuala Lumpur will make AOSPR 2009 KL a most memorable event for us all. I look forward to welcoming all of you.
Kita jumpa di Kuala Lumpur ! We will meet in Kuala Lumpur !

EVALUATION OF IMAGE QUALITY OF SCREEN-FILM, COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY AND DIRECT RADIOGRAPHY MAMMOGRAPHY SYSTEMSMasduki SM1, Ng KH1, Ranganathan S1, Aminah M1, Jamal N2, Saharuddin S1, Tan LK1, Taharim NK1, Kamarul Zaman Z1 and Azlan CA1
Department of Biomedical Imaging1, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Medical Technology Division2, Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (MINT), Kajang, Malaysia
Purpose of studyTo evaluate image quality (in terms of imaging performance and contrast-detail) of screen-film (SF), computed radiography (CR) and direct radiography (DR) mammography systems.
Materials and methodThe ACR mammography accreditation phantom was used to study the imaging performance, while the CDMDM version 3.4 phantom was used for the contrast-detail measurement. Phantoms were exposed at the same clinical settings: 28 kVp, Mo/Mo target/filter combination, large focal spot and with anti-scatter grid using SF, CR and DR mammography systems. SF images were viewed on a dedicated mammography viewing box. Digital images were viewed on a MagicView 1000 primary diagnostic monitor. Six observers (AM, SS, LKT, TNK, KZZ, ACA) took part in this study. All images were viewed in the same reporting room to simulate a typical clinical environment.
ResultsThe average total scores in imaging the ACR mammography accreditation phantom were 12.1, 12.1 and 12.0 for SF, CR and DR mammography systems respectively. DR contrast-detail curves indicate threshold contrast characteristics that are lower (better) than those of CR and SF at 28 kVp.
ConclusionThe performance of the three mammography systems evaluated using the ACR mammography accreditation phantom is comparable. However, digital (CR and DR) contrast-detail curves indicate that the threshold contrast characteristics are better than that of SF mammography.

Post Congress Day Tour To Melaka
StadthuysThe Stadthuys is in the Dutch Square located in the City Centre. It was built in 1650 to house the Dutch Governors. Preserved in its form, it displays unique Dutch masonry and architectural skills. It is now a historic museum that houses interesting displays of traditional bridal costumes, relics and others.
A’ FamosaThis is the hallmark of Melaka and it is the most photographed subject next to the Stadthuys. This fortress was built by the Portuguese in 1511 and had sustained severe damage during the Dutch Invasion. The British had was in the midst of destroying it but the intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of A’ Famosa today.
Cheng Hoon Teng TempleThe temple was founded in the 1600s by the Chinese Kapitan Tay Kie Ki alias Tay Hing Yong. In its early years, it served the community’s religious needs and functioned as the official administrative centre and a court of justice for the Kapitans. As the finest of Chinese temples in Malaysia, it has received a UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration and ranks amongst the most significant temple in Southeast Asia.
Christ ChurchOne of the buildings in Dutch Square in Melaka City Centre, it was built in 1753 to commemorate a century of Dutch rule. Reputed to be the oldest protestant church in Malaysia, it is now an Anglican Church. The building reflects the ingenuity of the Dutch architecture with beams constructed from cutting and carving a single tree without any joints.
Date: SUNDAY 22/11/09Travel fees: USD 55.00 per personCoach will depart for Melaka at 0830 hrs. We are expected to arrive in Melaka at 1030 hrs. Places of visit include a traditional Melaka Malay house in Kampung Duyung, Melaka Town, passing by the Melaka State Mosque, Bukit China and Little India. We will stop at the Stadthuys area for a trishaw ride to Porta de Santiago, old Melaka, passing by streets of harmony and for photo stop at Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, A Famosa, Jonker Street and Heeren Streets. Lunch will be at a Peranakan Restaurant. There will be time for a little shopping at the famous Jonker Street before we depart for KL. We are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 1730 hours.
