Peace and Development Through Scouting

As a result of the program Scouts in many countries have expressed their wish to do even more and to have an impact on a larger number of people. They have great ideas, and with their existing volunteer resources they are working hard do a good job. But in order to do a great job, to achieve even greater results, they are looking for further training, support and resources.

Scouting has always been a values-based Movement. Of course, over time the words that we use to explain what we are about have changed. It is a natural part of ensuring that we remain relevant to the youth and adult volunteers of the day.

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. Not only that but it could also change the world, with every

act that we do and learn in scouting like the disciplinarian acts, we could improve our lives.

The Scouts Promise is more than the words. The Promise is what we understand from the words – how it feels inside. We also expect Scouts to live by their Promise – this is because the Promise isn’t just for the time that we hold our section meetings – it is a way of life.
