Phase 1: Summer 2016

• Site safety and temporary safety fencing, relocation of utilities, abatement, corridor work

Phase 2: Fall 2016

• Boys’ Locker room and gym renovations, classroom addition construction, new electrical gear installation

Phase 3/4: Winter/Spring 2016/17

• Relocation of new bus drop-off point, new classroom addition occupancy, start Girls’ Locker room and Gym renovations, start Auditorium and existing classroom renovations (phased)


• Surrounding road, parking lot and sidewalk improvements, landscaping, 6th grade classrooms, William Penn site renovations, new toilet rooms, admin area, kitchen/cafeteria, band/choral area renovations, building roof replacement

Phase 6: Fall 2017 & Spring 2018

• Finish Auditorium and Tech Ed, continue existing classroom renovations (phased), final exterior renovations, final landscaping

Alternative & Clean Energy (ACE) Grant Program Award

The Pennwood MS project is the recipient of a $2M ACE Grant award for the construction of an “alternative and clean” building.


Between July 2016 and May 2017 the new classroom addition

and electrical switchgear addition was completed

The boiler room was gutted. New gas fired high efficiency

boilers and hot water heaters are installed


Over 200 windows were replaced this summer


Roof top HVAC and roof replacement were

performed during the summer. Roofing and HVAC

will continue right up to the start of school.

“To get the rainbow, we have to put up with the rain”

• The project is phased to consistently separate construction operations from school operations.

• Work is being scheduled during the school year and after the end of the school day. There will be limited disruptions.

• Temporary barriers will be established to separate construction areas from educational areas both inside and out.

• We are planning to maximize the weekends, holidays and the Summers when students are not in school.

• Contractor personnel and parking are separate from students and school operations.

Groups of classrooms/corridors will be renovated on a phased

schedule and isolated from students with hard barriers.


Renovated Choral and Band Rooms are being completed.

Tech Ed rooms will be finished in September.

Walkers/bikers will still enter the building

through the main entrance on Makefield and use

the same crosswalk. Bike racks will be provided. FAQ


William Penn walkers/bikers have a new continuous sidewalk. Walkers to

Pennwood also have new and continuous sidewalk. Racks will be available.

• What time can students enter the building?

Students can enter at 7:45

First bell is 8:05

Homeroom starts at 8:10

• Will there be an Open House for students prior to the start of

school?

Unfortunately no. Keeping in mind parent and student safety,

this will not happen before school. With ongoing, active

construction to get the building ready for the 30th, having no

one in the building is the safest course.

- 9/7/17 (7-8:30pm) will be 6th grade

- 9/14/17 (7-8:30pm) will be 7th and 8th grade


FAQ

Wednesday, August 30th will be our “soft start day” with only 6th

graders attending. All staff members will be assigned to help 6th

graders become acclimated to their new surroundings. Students

will receive help in the following areas:

• Opening lockers

• Reading and understanding the schedule

• Switching classes

• Learning the layout of the building

• Hallway etiquette

• Lunch procedures
