Tips for Wedding Hair(MS) - Now that you’ve cho-sen a wedding date, it’s timeto start the countdown that iswedding planning. Many
brides-to-be give receptionsites and details top prioritybut forget to devote the sameconsideration to bridal hairstyles.1. Apart from being blessedwith great hair genes, beau-tiful hair can also be the re-sult of the masterful hands ofa good stylist. If you do nothave a winning relationshipwith your stylist, now is thetime to seek out a new one. When you are comfortablewith your stylist talk early on
about what you envision forwedding day hair and sched-ule a practice run-through.
2. Don’t skip hair-cuts because you want longhair for your wedding. Regu-lar cuts are essential to elimi-nating dead ends that canlook dull and flyaway. Trimscan also refresh the shape ofyour hair and make it easierto manipulate into your pre-ferred wedding style. Plus, hair just looks and feelshealthier with regular trims.
3. You don’t want totry drastic cuts or color op-tions too close to the wed-ding, where you may not beable to fix a faux pas if thelook isn’t to your liking.
Rather, experiment with coloror texture a few months inadvance of the wedding soyou’ll have time to tweak thelook toward your desired fin-ished product.

Starting with the 2007 tax return, seniors willbe allowed to split up to half of their eligible pen-sion income with a spouse or common_law partner.Income splitting will allow some seniors to take ad-vantage of a significant tax break. In the situationwhere the lower-income spouse has very little in-come, the tax savings will be substantial.
The last Federal Budget increased theage limit to 71 from 69 for Registered RetirementSavings Plans.
Any senior receiving Guaranteed Income Sup-plement (GIS) through Old Age Security should fileon time to ensure their benefits continue uninter-rupted. If your spouse is unable to completely off-set his or her age amount, pension income and dis-ability amount against tax payable, he or she maytransfer the unused portion to your return.
If you live with your children, they may be ableto claim a caregiver amount for you if your incomeis less than $13,726.
Pensions from foreign countries may be sub-ject to special tax treatment under the terms of atax treaty. Always check with a tax professional tofind out if the pension you receive from a foreignsource is taxable in Canada.
You may be able to split part of your CPPretirement benefits with your spouse depending onhow long you lived together when you were con-tributing to the plan. This is an advantage if onesenior is in a higher tax bracket than the other. How-ever, to do so, you must apply to Human Resources& Social Development Canada. It cannot be doneat the time of tax preparation.
Remember that there are tax credits avail-able for federal or provincial political contributions, medical expenses and charitable donations. A taxprofessional can advise you as to what can beclaimed and the best way to ensure maximum de-ductions.
A local H&R Block tax professional can talk to youabout more tax tips for seniors. Call 853-3741 inAlberton or 436-5445 in Summerside.

By Sarah Powley
(NC)-Time is running out to make your RRSPcontribution and take advantage of a tax deduction for2007. With the deadline of February 29 fast approach-ing, here are five last-minute tips to consider:
1. Contribute now - decide later. Don’t worry about figur-ing out where you will invest your RRSP contribution, just get your funds into a temporary “parking space” likea money market fund.

“With the help of your investment advisor, youcan allocate your RRSP contributions at a later date,”said Don Reed, president and chief executive officer,Franklin Templeton Investments Corp. “Take the timelater to make sure that your investment decisions fityour goals and risk tolerance.”
2. Avoid making emotional decisions. Makinginvestment choices based on your emotions is not agood idea. Following a “hot” stock tip that you heard ata party can have disastrous results. “An investmentadvisor can help you stay on track to achieving yourlong-term goals and reduce the risk of rash decisions,”said Mr. Reed. A good advisor can modify your invest-ment plan as your lifestyle changes. More informationon finding an advisor is available on websites likewww.franklintempleton.ca.
3. Utilize unused RRSP contribution room.“Maximizing your RRSP contributions helps you takeadvantage of compounding and potential growth,” saidMr. Reed. Canadians can carry forward unused RRSPcontribution room dating as far back as 1991. If youhave not maximized your contributions over the years, your Notice of Assessment will show all your unusedcontribution room from prior years that you can takeadvantage this tax season.
4. Diversify beyond your backyard. Are you aninvestor that has all your eggs in one basket? Geographicdiversification can lower risk in your portfolio, so lookbeyond Canada and invest in the U.S. and internationalmarkets too. In addition, you may diversify your invest-ment portfolio through various asset classes, differentstyles of investment management and a range of smallto large market cap holdings too.
5. Avoid the rush next year. Set up an auto-matic monthly contribution plan to you RRSP. It’s mucheasier contributing $50 to $100 from every paychequethan struggling to come up with a large lump sum inFebruary next year.

(NC)-Thousandsof Canadians ‘snowbirds’ flysouth each winter to escapethe cold and enjoy the warmweather south of the border. If you’re among them, takenote of these important fi-nancial precautions offeredby Patricia Lovett Reid, sen-ior vice president of TDWaterhouse Canada Inc:
Ensure your Will isup to date. If you own prop-erty or other assets in theU.S. or another country, make sure the terms of yourWill are valid there.
Arrange power ofattorney to allow someoneto manage your affairs incase you’re incapacitated. You should have powers ofattorney for financial mattersand for medical and per-sonal care or the equivalentin your province.
Review your in-vestment portfolio. Will anyinvestments mature whileyou’re away? If so, you maywant to leave instructions asto how they should be rein-vested.
Purchase ad-equate health insurance.Medical care outsideCanada can be extremelyexpensive.
Set up access toinvestment and banking ac-counts. Options includeInternet access, automated

telephone services, andpersonal telephone contact.
Arrange for billpayments. Make a list ofbills that will come due, anddetermine how to deal withthem. If you can’t make pay-ments through post-datebill payment from a bankaccount or through Internetor telephone banking, havesomeone pay them for you.
Make sure you’llhave access to cash. Thismay be as simple s takingan automated banking ma-chine (ABM) card with you.You could also take travel-lers’ cheques or transfercash from Canada to a fi-nancial institution at yourdestination.
Be sure to pack thenames and numbers of yourCanadian financial institu-tions. Toll-free numbers are
usually available for thosewho winter in the U.S.
“Following these easy stepswill give snowbirds peace of
mind, knowing their finan-cial needs are taken care ofso they can relax and enjoytheir time away with confi-dence,” says Lovett-Reid.

The new automatic chummer -developed by Brian Myers, saves
tuna fishers time and labour.
Innovative new marine productdeveloped by local welding shop
Brian Myers of Myers Weld-ing has used his experience as afishermen led to the development ofa very valuable piece of fishingequipment - the AutomaticChummer. This device is used toattract tuna and eliminate hours ofunnecessary labour.
“I always thought therecould be something created thatcould be doing this job instead ofme”.
Myers first attempt to designsuch a machine was with a wipermotor and a fish pan. Since then and
many hours later refining his productBrian Myers creation is now profes-sionally manufactured at his shop andis being sold and shipped to fisher-men in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia,New Brunswick and here in PEI.
“I used to count how manyseconds it took for the bait to disap-pear out of sight then I timed the gearratio accordingly to the same timingas doing it by hand.” The chummermeasures 24”x18”x15” with a hop-per that holds approximately 30 lbsof bait. It’s automatic, the motor andgears work for you as it feeds every30 seconds.
Myers is also manufacturingan in-house roller system with hy-draulics and he has plans to use itwithin his shop. With the purchaseof a large lathe the fabrication shophas no limits. The metal roller is a re-creation of another piece of equip-ment which enables Myers to fabri-cate a roll type piece of steel such asa cylinder shape from various thick-nesses of steel which is used in manydifferent applications.
As well as working on hisown creations Myers does get tocreate ideas from other people andall jobs are welcome.
“I am asked to make thingsfor many in the fishing industry, fromlobster to oyster fishermen. I makedart poles, gaff hooks, anything todo for fishing if it can be done I’ll giveit a try. I’ve even had calls for makingpostal boxes. No job is turned away.”
Customized aluminiumhatches and engine hatches are alsospeciality for Myers. He works withstainless steel, aluminium, and mildsteel. The shop offers mig, tig, stickwelding and lathe work.

The Callaway is a contem-porary cottage with a country-Vic-torian flavor. The wooden postsand railings on its wide front porchgive it that country-cottage look, while the intriguing arched windowand scallop-shingled gable frontsadd dashes of nostalgic Victorianflavor.
Families are sure to appre-ciate the multiplicity of amenitiesthat the designers managed to fitinto slightly less than 1400 squarefeet of living space.
Family gathering spaces fillthe left side; private rooms are onthe right. The vaulted living roomhas one wide window in the front,
and two slender windows on theside. The ceiling height drops andflattens toward the rear, where theliving room transitions into the din-ing room.
Light spills into this brightspace through wide windows at theside and a set of sliding glassdoors at the rear that open onto apartially covered patio. Counters inthe C-shaped kitchen are ex-tended by a peninsula with a flusheating bar that bounds the diningroom. Standing at the kitchen sink, you can keep an eye on activitiesin the back yard and on the patio.
A hallway just around thecorner from the Callaway's kitchenleads to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and a pass-through utility room thatlinks with the garage. Broom, linen, and coat closets line the hallway, and a bank of cabinets fills the wallover the washer and dryer.
For a review plan, includ-ing scaled floor plans, eleva-tions, section and artist's con-ception, send $25 to AssociatedDesigns, 1100 Jacobs Dr.,Eugene, OR 97402. Pleasespecify the Callaway 30-641 andinclude a return address whenordering. A catalog featuringmore than 550 home plans isavailable for $15.
