Domingo de Pentecostés Jn 20, 19-23

Al anochecer del día de la resurrección, estando cerra-das las puertas de la casa donde se hallaban los discípulos, por miedo a los judíos, se presentó Jesús en medio de ellos y les dijo: "La paz esté con ustedes".

Dicho esto, les mostró las manos y el costado. Cuando los discípulos vieron al Señor, se lle-naron de alegría. De nuevo les dijo Jesús: "La paz esté con ustedes. Como el Padre me ha enviado, así también los en-vío yo". Después de decir esto, sopló sobre ellos y les dijo: "Reciban el Espíritu Santo. A los que les perdonen los peca-dos, les quedarán perdonados; y a los que no se los perdonen, les quedarán sin perdonar".

La temporada de verano se acerca, trayendo temperaturas más altas. Sin embargo, queremos recordarles a nuestros feligreses y amigos que se recuerden que deben vestirse con modestia y de manera apropiada pa-ra la misa. Es preferible que las mu-

jeres usen camisas con mangas (debe eliminar los vesti-dos sin espalda o de corte bajo, las correas de espagueti, las camisetas sin mangas, o cualquier cosa que muestre su diafragma), los vestidos o las faldas deben ser por lo me-nos a la altura de la rodilla; Si usa pantalones, asegúrese de que no tengan agujeros. Además, alentamos a nuestros feligreses masculinos a usar cami-sas de polo o camisas con botones (debes evitar usar ropa con el logo de los equipos deportivos) y vestir pantalones o caquis (evita usar pantalones deportivos y jeans con agujeros).

Niedziela zesłania Ducha Świętego

Wieczorem w dniu zmartwychwstania, tam gdzie przebywali uczniowie, drzwi były zamknię-te z obawy przed Żydami. Przyszedł Jezus, sta-nął pośrodku, i rzekł do nich: «Pokój wam!» A to powiedziawszy, pokazał im ręce i bok. Urado-wali się zatem uczniowie ujrzawszy Pana. A Je-zus znowu rzekł do nich: «Pokój wam! Jak Oj-ciec Mnie posłał, tak i Ja was posyłam». Po tych słowach tchnął na nich i powiedział im: «Weźmijcie Ducha Świętego. Którym odpuścicie grzechy, są im odpuszczone, a którym zatrzy-macie, są im zatrzymane».

Zesłanie Ducha Świętego

Jeszcze raz warto się odwołać i cofnąć do Ewan-gelii z ostatnich niedziel. Zawie-rają one wskaza-nia trudne do zrozumienia czy docenienia, jeśli patrzy się na nie z ludzkiego, doczesnego punktu widzenia. Dopiero wejrzenie wiary pozwala nam dotrzeć do pełni treści zawartej w słowach Chrystusa. W przeciwnym razie będziemy próbowali sami, o własnych, naturalnych siłach osiągnąć to, co przekracza możli-wości człowieka. A więc skazani jesteśmy na niepowodzenie. Dopiero specjalna pomoc Boga pozwoli nam przezwyciężyć swoje ludzkie ograniczenia. Najlepszym dowodem tej „pomocy z góry” był gwał-towny rozwój Kościoła w pierwszych dziesięcioleciach i wie-kach. Po ludzku było niemożliwe, by grupka kilkunastu nieucz-onych ludzi, bez pomocy techniki, środków przekazu, dużych pieniędzy, mogła rozkrzewić swoje ideały i sposób życia na cały ówczesny świat. A jednak dokonali tego – nie oni sami, lecz Duch Święty, którego Jezus im posłał, tak jak obiecał. Duch Święty na ogół nie działa z pominięciem człowieka i jego wkładu, lecz powołuje nas do współpracy. Obdarza nas pewny-mi uzdolnieniami i możliwościami, których sami z siebie, na-wet z największym wysiłkiem nie bylibyśmy w stanie wykrze-sać. Gdy jednak pozwolimy Bogu działać w sobie, wtedy na-tychmiast zaczną się pojawiać rezultaty przekraczające nasze możliwości. Pewnych efektów naszych działań nie jesteśmy w stanie przewidzieć nawet w najśmielszych oczekiwaniach. Na-

tomiast inne działania, nie po myśli Boga, nie przyniosą rezul-tatów, nawet gdybyśmy wykorzystali wszelkie dostępne środki. Dlatego też konieczne jest jak najlepsze rozeznanie Bożej woli, by rozpoznać, czego Bóg od nas w danej chwili oczekuje i jakie są Jego plany na przyszłość. Jeśli uczynimy to z pokorą, na modlitwie, wówczas unikniemy wiele niepotrzebnego wysiłku i zwielokrotnimy rezultaty naszej pracy, przez oddanie jej owo-ców w ręce Boga. Ale do tego jest niezbędne całkowite i bez-warunkowe poddanie się prowadzeniu Ducha Świętego. Nie polega ono na wyzbyciu się myślenia, rezygnacji ze swojej wolności wyboru, wyrzeczeniu się swoich uzdolnień. Wręcz przeciwnie: chodzi o to, by swoje myślenie, decyzje i talenty oddać na współpracę z Bogiem, do Jego dyspozycji. I dlatego potrzeba szczególnego wysiłku, by to myślenie, wola i zdolno-ści były jak najlepszej jakości, by były sprawnym narzędziem wypełniania Bożych zadań. I dlatego Jezus oczekuje od nas, byśmy swoje potrzeby i pragnienia zaspokajali obficie u same-go źródła. Źródłem tym jest Duch Święty. Jest to źródło, które bije z naszego wnętrza. Kieruje to naszą uwagę we właściwym kierunku. Często bowiem oczekujemy pomocy czy rozwiązań swoich problemów na zewnątrz, poza sobą. Tymczasem to w nas samych znajduje się rozwiązanie. To nie znaczy wcale, że rozwiązanie jest naszym osiągnięciem i że mamy sobie przypi-sywać zasługę. Ale wiemy przynajmniej, gdzie szukać odpo-wiedzi na swoje pytania, gdzie szukać właściwego kierunku. I dlatego warto się troszczyć o swój duchowy rozwój, by być wrażliwym na sygnały pochodzące od Ducha Świętego w nas. Musi być tylko spełniony jeden warunek: trzeba wierzyć w Chrystusa, oddać Mu siebie. Dopiero wtedy będziemy potrafili zbliżyć się do Niego i właśnie u Niego szukać pomocy.

The summer season is approaching, bringing warmer temperatures. How-ever, we want to remind our parish-ioners and friends to please to re-member to dress modestly, and ap-propriately for Mass. It is preferred

for women to wear tops with sleeves (you should elimi-nate backless or low-cut dresses, spaghetti straps, tank tops, or anything that shows your midriff), dresses or skirts should be at least at knee length; if wearing pants, make sure they do not have holes. Also, we encourage our male parishioners to wear polo shirts or button-down shirts (you should avoid wearing clothes with sport teams logos) and dress pants or khakis (avoid wearing sweat-pants and jeans with holes).

Pentecost Sunday John 20:19-23

Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Background on the Gospel Reading

The season of Easter concludes with today's celebration, the feast of Pentecost. On Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem; this event marks the beginning of the Church. The story of Pentecost is found in the Acts of the Apos-tles, today's first reading. The account in today's Gospel, taken from the Gospel of John, also recounts how Jesus gave the gift of the Holy Spirit to his dis-ciples. There is no need to try to reconcile these two accounts to each other. It is enough to know that, after his death, Jesus fulfilled his promise to send to his disciples a helper, an advocate, who would ena-ble them to be his witnesses throughout the world. We previously heard today's Gospel on the second Sunday of Easter. At that time, we also heard the passage that follows, which describes Jesus' ap-pearance to Thomas. In that context, we were led to reflect on belief and unbelief. In the context of the feast of Pentecost, this reading reminds us about the integral connection be-tween the gifts of peace and forgiveness and the ac-tion of the Holy Spirit. Jesus greets his disciples with the gift of peace. Jesus then commissions his disciples to continue the work that he has begun, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” As he breathes the Holy Spirit upon them, Jesus sends his disciples to continue his work of reconciliation through the forgiveness of sins. This Gospel reminds us that the Church is called to be a reconciling presence in the world. This reconciling presence of Christ is celebrated in the Church's sacramental life. In the Sacrament of Bap-tism, we are washed clean from sin and become a new creation in Christ. In the Sacrament of Penance, the Church celebrates the mer-cy of God in forgiving sins. This reconciling presence is also to be a way of life for Christians. In situations of conflict, we are to be agents of peace and harmony among people.

Fathers’ Day will be celebrated on June 16th. A very beautiful way to give thanks and appreciate all that your father, grandfather, God-father, etc. means to you is to remember them in prayer. Please take home a “Fathers’ Day” Mass

envelope and list the names of those you wish to remember. The envelopes can be found at all entrances of the church. All Masses on the weekend of June 19th will be for the intention of all Fathers.
