LIMA LADS AND LASSIES

December is a very busy month for the Lima Lads and Lassies 4-H club. With the holiday season starting right after Thanksgiving so does the Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign. Each family in our club signs up for a time slot or two to ring the bells at Econofoods, Security Financial Bank or Countryside Cooperative on a date that works best into their schedule. Next we had our annual Christmas cookie bake sale at the HOHOHO Expo at the Durand High on the first Sunday in December. Each family baked 12 dozen cookies. On the Friday before the sale several Moms and Grandmas of the club worked together traying up all of the goodies on festive trays, tins and mugs. Along with the cookies that were for sale at our booth, two of our club members were selling items that they had made to raise funds for trips that they will be taking through 4-H in the coming year. Lauren Hendel made pillow cases in many different prints such as Packers, Frozen, horses, cars, tractors, Hello Kitty, and Christmas themed to name a few. She also made several fleece tie blankets to sell. Stephanie Brantner, with help from some of her family, made snowman ornaments, bedspring snowmen, painted windows, Christmas themed decorated windows and table centerpieces, and pallet Christmas trees. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate as we had wet heavy snow most of the morning which made for slippery roads but we are very thankful for all of the people that did brave the roads and came to the Expo and bought items from our club. With all of the support that our community does for our 4-H club we decided to give back by selecting 3 ornaments off of the Christmas Wish tree at Waumandee Bank. We were more than happy to help brighten Christmas morning for a few young boys and girls. We ended the month with our Christmas party. Most everyone came in festive attire. Lauren Hendel won the best dressed contest as one of Santa's elves. We played a Chinese gift exchange followed by Christmas Pictionary. That game always gets everyone fired up. Then we had a festive snack while some people visited and others played board games. One more activity that is available to all 4-Hers in 7th grade and over is a community service project. On Dec. 30th we will be going to Feed My People food bank to help package food and then to Action City's new trampoline addition for an afternoon of fun. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
