The Awards recognise the success and achievements of Scotland’s internationally renowned life sciences sector in areas including innovation, investment, community engagement and collaboration. Tactical Wireless Ltd won the Innovation award for its Omni -Hub TM system– the integrated communications hub which takes inputs from sensors, analogue and digital video sources, data and audio which can transmit and receive using all available networks. The Scottish Life Sciences Innovation Award judges recognised Omni- Hub TM as a unique product that can transmit real -time data from remote locations, irrespective of the challenges caused by poor connectivity from insufficient telecommunications infrastructure in remote areas. Omni-Hub TM provides an open architecture solution based on the integration of commercial off the shelf hardware and is not dependent on any one network. Each Omni-Hub TM can be networked via Tactical Wireless’s own secure Omni-Hub™.Net network allowing multiple Hubs to provide aggregated bandwidth, within the Hub and over multiple Hubs. Service resiliency is enabled by the ability of the Hub to access , and control the use of, up to 4 cellular, 2 Wi-Fi, 2 satellite and one ADSL routes. This diversity of delivery paths is further enhanced by the bonded WAN router technology from Peplink that splits the data between multiple routes and multiple servers. Security is provided by encryption up to AES 256 levels across the entire network. Additionally, Omni-Hub TM manages the video content to ensure optimised use of the available bandwidth. Scotland's life sciences industry already contributes more than £3 billion a year to the Scottish economy with some 650 organisations employing around 35,000 people. It is globally recognised for its high levels of innovation – translating ideas and research into novel treatments and world-leading therapies. Julia Brown, senior director of life and chemical sciences at Scottish Enterprise said: "Congratulations to this year’s winners. Once again the quality of the candidates was outstanding and reinforced the strength of the ski lls pool that makes up the Scottish life sciences industry.” Tactical Wireless has also made the shortlist for the Innovation category for the Medilink UK Awards 2015 that celebrate cutting edge technologies, outstanding business achievements and internati onal success across the UK’s Life Sciences sector. The Innovation Award category is given to companies which have developed pioneering technology in specific sectors of healthcare and developed ground-breaking products to solve life threatening problems. The awards are a nationwide competition spanning over 1,500 Life Sciences companies and will announce the winners at a Gala Dinner on 29 th April, alongside the UK’s largest Medical Device industry event - the Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2015. Peter Morton, TWL’s Managing Director said: “We would like to thank the judges of the Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Awards for recognising the technical and practical application of Omni -Hub TM and look forward to working with more organisations in real-world applications that can help deliver critical care and connectivity to people in remote locations.” Tactical Wireless is working closely with Professor Philip Wilson and his team, at the University of Aberdeen’s Centre for Rural Health, to transmit live ultrasound from remote locations in the Highlands in a project that allowed more than 95% of all images to retain diagnostic quality.
