Gap AnalysisA primary goal of the 2010 market research was to determine how and where internal and external perceptions of the university differed. Focus group and survey questions were developed around the university’s current and long term institutional initiatives and asked of all audiences. When comparing the data collected from audiences who were surveyed quantitatively (using the written survey method), the following gaps in perceptions are identified:
Perceptions differed most significantly in the area of student-faculty interaction, with the internal group rating the university high in the area and the student group rating it low.
It is important to note that in the August 2009 National Survey of Engagement, Winona State University first-year students were less likely than students from comparison groups to positively rate their relationships with faculty members (NSSE 2009 Executive Snapshot, page 3).
Percent of students who positively rated their relationship with faculty members: WSU Minnesota Carnegie NSSE 2009 66% 71% 77% 73%
The gap analysis chart displays variations between internal and external group perceptions by overlaying the initiatives charts from each group.
The chart shows variations between average responses within internal and external groups, and therefore identifies the largest differences in perception between the groups.

Research Highlights• When comparing and totaling all research findings by respondent group or type, many commonalities and a few
significant differences in perceptions were identified. Perceptions around technology, student-faculty interaction, and career preparation were the most significantly varied.
• All respondent groups were generally positive about Winona State University. Overall, attitudes were most positive among those who had less experience with the university (e.g. prospective students were more positive than current students, parents were more positive than alumni).
• When comparing the written survey data, the parent group provided ratings and feedback that could be described as the most positive and optimistic, followed by staff, faculty, and then alumni. The counselor group, which was small, was positive but also lacked information about WSU.
• Two significant and opposing perceptions came through when comparing all research across all groups. Many respondents appeared to be motivated by either the belief that Winona State University is a very strong academic option or the belief that the university is primarily an option to be considered for career preparation.
• Each respondent group revealed some bias toward their own interests or circumstances when responding. For example: Alumni provided answers related to career stress and nostalgia for the WSU community that “cared;” parents provided answers that revealed a desire for a small, safe environment for their children and high expectations for faculty; and faculty provided answers that revealed a desire to teach high achievers.

tsProspective Student Highlights • Prospective students expect big things from their experience at Winona State University. They expressed optimism
and resolve in their decision to attend, and for the majority, WSU was their first choice. • These students, from two high schools that are very different (suburban Minneapolis and semi rural La Crescent),
all described the typical WSU student as hard working, easy to get along with, and sociable. This description of the typical student very closely mirrors the description offered by recent alumni, who described the typical WSU student as well-rounded and all-American.
• All students were aware of and excited about the laptop program and most were quick to identify nursing and
education as distinctive programs. Students in La Crescent had seen the university’s television advertising. • Motivators for selecting and attending were the same as those identified by prior research and national research:
programs of study offered, location, size, beauty of the area, and/or knew someone attending.

15Perceptions of Winona State University
Current Stud
entsCurrent Student Highlights
• Current students expressed great appreciation for Winona State University. The older the students were who participated in the focus groups, the more likely they were to identify weaknesses.
• The students were particularly enthused about the laptop program, the beauty of the area, and the small class sizes. Complaints centered primarily around courses, faculty, and the laptop program.
• Noteworthy was the fact that few students identified a strong commitment to community service. They said that they participate in it primarily when it is a requirement for a major or class. This was enlightening given the national trend toward a high level of community service participation by college students.

Recent Alumni Highlights• When evaluating Winona State University’s success in accomplishing its institutional initiatives, recent alumni were
most likely to agree that the university has been successful. They were slightly less likely than parent respondents and counselor respondents to strongly agree that the university has been successful in most initiatives, indicating a small gap in the perceptions of those who have actually been customers/students of the university and those who have not.
• Evaluation of the university’s institutional initiative #3 (students develop tools for success) revealed the greatest level of discord with only 88% of recent alumni agreeing or strongly agreeing that the initiative has been accomplished while 95% of parents and 100% of counselors believed this to be so.
• The recent alumni rated institutional initiatives #6 (rich environment) and #1 (technology) highest.
• When asked to identify Winona State University’s greatest strength, the alumni identified numerous and varied strengths. A strength and theme that emerged as noteworthy because it had not been strongly suggested in the context of the survey, was repeated numerous (27) times, and was not mentioned frequently by parents or counselors, was community.
• The many comments related to community reveal that students of the university benefit meaningfully and in a long term way from the community around them: the campus community, the city community, and the overall sense of community.
• The alumni were most critical of Winona State University’s ability to deliver career preparation. Only 66% of alumni respondents rated this high, compared to 83% of parents and 100% of counselors who rated it high. The response from alumni is not surprising given the recent and current job market (the 2009 United States unemployment rate was 16.3%. Source: United States Bureau of Labor Statistics).
• The alumni had numerous and varied opinions of what should be promoted in marketing. Many did not feel qualified to judge, indicated that they think that the university already does a good job, or made suggestions related to program areas, technology, or personal preferences.
• Many opinions were shared related to the type of student that fits best at Winona State University. Many indicated that any or all students would fit. References to “hard-working” students and students from “small towns” were repeated frequently and should be considered noteworthy. For those who have recently attended WSU, the student who fits best seems to be wholly described as a hard-working, small town oriented, average Joe.
• The alumni believe that students who attend Winona State University are strong academically and career focused. Leadership ranked low, which is noteworthy and may tie in with comments that suggested that the students who fit best are “all-American,” “all-stars,” “well-rounded,” or “middle-range.”
• The recent alumni very strongly believe that the nursing and education programs stand out most.
• Recent alumni were most likely to give the faculty a score of above average. They rated “meaningful student interaction” the highest, with “quality teaching” and “high expectations” close behind. Alumni gave the faculty lower scores, overall, than did parents or counselors.
21Perceptions of Winona State University
Recent A
lumni
• Faculty who demonstrated that they genuinely cared about the students had a lasting and positive impact on alumni. The “they care” theme did not emerge as relevant among parents or counselors. Parents emphasized “high expectations” while counselors struggled to identify what it is that makes WSU faculty unique.
• Recent alumni have strong familiarity with and attachment to the Winona State University brand symbols. They feel more strongly about the flaming W symbol than do the parents or counselors. Changing or significantly altering the logo or brand color is not recommended. Awareness of the tagline is high.
• Awareness of the Rochester campus and the variety of majors offered is high and higher among alumni than it is among parents and counselors.

Location
the professors are very knowledgeable and professional.
I think that a significant strength is the size of the student body. The population is limited and it allows for small class sizes and the opportunity for a student to be known by a name rather than a number.
The athletics
The atmosphere on campus. From President Ramaley and the new administration to the faculty, staff and students made it an amazing place to grow academically and socially.
At WSU students do not get lost in the shuffle which is a major advantage of a school of WSU’s size.
General demographic of the college: smallish town in a beautiful location mixed with medium sized classes and a great technical laptop program gives it a great caring feel, even if it isn’t really a small college.
The professors are dedicated to the students.
The ability for students to receive one-on-one attention from professors when needed and the laptop program.
laptop program
value of the education. Good education at low cost.
That the core classes remain smaller (at least in my area of study). You aren’t just a number.
Small class sizes
Ability for students to graduate in 4 years
Close proximity to on-the-job training opportunities through Fastenal, local hospitals & schools.
Location
student to teach ratio
It’s community
Technology
Perfect size with continued community involvement.
laptop program
The natural beauty of the surrounding area and campus attracted me over other schools.
its sense of community
Winona State is uniquely stationed on the river, offering close proximity to several large metropolitan areas, while continuing to draw a student population from the broader region. Aside from the actual student body, WSU’s greatest strength outside of athletic performance (I am a former Women’s Soccer Player for WSU) is the great relationship it has with the community. While on campus, you truly feel that you belong to a broader network within the community.
It offers a lot of great programs with great faculty.
Small class sizes that create a viable learning community.
Location, campus and willingness to be cutting-edge.
Location and academic pursuit options.
the ability to adapt to outside change fast. the ability to be a early adapter (however that can change within a second)
The friendliness of faculty and staff -- it’s an institution where you feel part of the community and not just a number.
Diversity of learners, ages, ethnicities... brought together to achieve their goals.
Close to home.
The fact that it is in the heart of Winona, that is surrounded by beautiful bluffs, rivers, lakes, and parks. The campus and city are big enough for all students to enjoy, but yet has a small town feel to it!
Keeping involved with the surrounding community. It is vital that this continues.
the community
Student faculty relationship, wide variety of options for a major, interaction with the community
great sense of community
The Diversity in Academic Classes and the availability of resources and extra-curricular activities.
Smaller class sizes.
In your opinion, what is Winona State University’s greatest strength?
25Perceptions of Winona State University
Recent A
lumni
A strong sense of community - thanks in majority to a premiere athletic department. Active campus life and excellent executive leadership.

the community involvement and the fact that it’s not really spread out like some campuses
small class sizes
I think that Winona State University’s greatest strength is its small size that offers a variety of worthwhile opportunities for all students. This allows students to establish a stronger bond with the community and professors while achieving their highest potential of success in their degree.
The facilities and resources that are available to the students.
The faculty
It’s campus location/beauty and wide range of degree options.
the opportunity to develop close meaningful relationships with professors and advisors
The diversity of academic programs that are available. The availability of required courses frequently makes it highly likely for students to graduate in 4 years.
integration of technology into the learning environment
I think the biggest strength of WSU is the quality of the faculty.
Size and location
Good value university
I think WSU strikes the right balance between a focus on academics and student life (extracurriculars, residence life, etc.) which is crucial to student success and learning.
It’s location...hard to answer because WSU was the only college I went to. I can’t compare it to any other college.

the community aspect. I felt that as an undergraduate student I was challenged to get involved and become a member of that community. I am forever tired to Winona State University due to the community feeling.
Women’s and Gender Studies Program. It changed my life.

I think the greatest strength of the University are the students themselves. You get out of your academic career what you put into it!
I chose Winona State over other University’s because of the beauty of the campus and small campus size.

the community...not just Winona the city but the school as well.
The science programs
The academics and staff are WSU’s greatest strength. WSU has high standards for their students to excel in their chosen major/career. The staff of WSU work hard to help students meet those goals. The quality of the education provided is very high.
Campus size, interaction between instructors and students, nice size of community, and the beauty of the town and area.
The friendliness, openness, inclusiveness of the entire University and city of Winona community. The main program I studied under at WSU was not that great, but the rest of the programs and experiences I had, I don’t think I would have found easily at other schools. I grew as a person at Winona and was supported in many diverse ways by WSU and the city of Winona to do that.
Providing a liberal arts education and fostering the strengths of its strongest student leaders.
I would say it would be the small class sizes, the fact that students get to know their actual professors and build strong relationships with them.
Fostering a unique learning environment

Accessibility. As a former student at WSU it was always easy to access technology, locations for events or social interactions, Other students, Knowledgeable staff, any resource you may be looking for to answer a question.
The communication and relationships between faculty and students is a very strong trait. The way the laptop

I really liked the technology aspect WSU offered. It helped me adapt quickly and efficiently in everyday aspects of my new career as a RN.
The town of Winona, The new library, being the first college to make students use laptops.

Analysis:
When asked to identify Winona State University’s greatest strength, the recent alumni identified numerous and varied strengths. A strength and theme that emerged as noteworthy because it had not been strongly suggested in the context of the survey, was repeated numerous (27) times, and was not mentioned frequently by parents or counselors, was community.
The many comments related to community reveal that students of the university benefit meaningfully and in a long term way from the community around them: the campus community, the city community, and the overall sense of community.

Due to the size of Winona State, it is not widely recognized as the prestigious University or not recognized at all. I reside in the DC area and most people have never heard of it, which is a bit bothersome. So, spreading the marketing efforts to a national level could help promote WSU.

They are so easy to talk to
The faculty I experienced were very involved with the education of the students and involving them in community, state and national issues the help them continue to be involved in the civics.
WSU faculty take the time to get to know all of their students and maintain lasting relationships during a students time at WSU and beyond.
For the most part, I remember noting that a majority of the faculty, including services like the lunch areas and maintenance, typically seemed to care about the students and how their experience was going overall.
They care about teaching more than research.
The time they take out for students.
There is a lot of diversity in their background
Once you get to the core classes, the professors are just as eager as you are to pursue your goals.
Hard to say since I am not familiar with faculty at other universities.
unknown
Some are awesome - then they leave because WSU won’t pay them enough. Some stink at their jobs and still have one - they don’t use updated teaching techniques and are resistant to change. Either way, rewarding based on performance and evaluations of students should be emphasized. They are well known within the community and students.
They have no real life experience
They really care about each individual student one on one.
not much
Consistent Happiness
recreation dept faculty is great!
They take the time to get to know their students.
Quality one-on-one attention when needed
The faculty is dedicated to the development of the students.
I think the staff really care about the students.
The most unique aspect of the WSU faculty is the willingness to help and make accommodations when necessary.
Leaders and care about students.
their openness warm at heart (at least most of them ;O) not narrow-minded
at all
Most I had were Winona state grads themselves
From all different walks of life, different countries.
They have a vested interest in student contact.
Most of them care how their students are doing, in their class or in general. More so when students get in their major. They want you to do well and have time or take the time to talk if needed.
They work so hard and get little reward for a job well done.
The physical education faculty was always amazing. They cared about the students, but some of them lacked depth as a teacher. Some seemed to be more coach first, recruiter second, teacher third. The staff that wasn’t coaching really had their curriculum well done. I would say that Douglas Callahan, Steve Juaire, and Gale Grimm were the best professors in the PE community.
Almost always willing to talk to you if you have a question or concern about anything and It doesn’t have to be during class.
The campus is small enough were you are able to interact and communicate well with them.
Some of the faculty has continued to keep in and almost ‘check up’ on
What do you think is unique about the Winona State University faculty?

me to see how I’m doing. I think it’s wonderful that they’re truly interested and consider some of them to be great friends.
They all live in the community and are mostly accessible for questions/concerns/guidance.
The staff interaction and lack of teaching assistance is unique for a school WSU’s size.
The time they make themselves available to those students who would like to interact with them.
a good variety of experience prior to teaching at WSU
Personable
I feel the faculty is unique at Winona State University because of the worldly experience that each member has and how they use that knowledge in their classrooms.
relationship with students
My perception is that the faculty is similar to what I would expect for the institution
Some but not all
Most of them live locally and are very involved in the community in which they live.
real world experience
I really like the smaller class sizes that allowed me to develop a relationship with the WSU faculty.
There is a huge difference from each one faculty to another. Some are very interested and involved and other could care less.
Their availability outside class
They were very down to earth and willing to interact with students.
old (comp. Sci)
their willingness to make themselves available to discuss learning material, grades career advice etc. WSU is full of renowned professors who stay abreast in their field. I may be biased but the English Dept and its professors made a lasting impression on me. They were all intelligent, concerned, easy to talk to and in general absolutely wonderful during my time at WSU (200-2004)
The amount of time that professors make available to students outside of scheduled class time as well as a willingness to answer real life questions about careers, graduate/professional school and not just questions relating to class.
They are concerned with student learning more than other schools, they take personal interest
The faculty at WSU is excellent. Although I graduated from WSU two years ago, I still keep in touch with many faculty members at WSU. They cared about the student...not the tuition check.
They are focused on helping students instead of doing research
Small class sizes so more ability for
interaction (but it’s not necessarily always there)
WSU faculty dedicate an enormous amount of time to students. WSU is, first and foremost, a teaching university, and the passion and dedication teachers put into their students reflects that. Students are a name here, not just a number.
I had a close relationship with most of my profs. Again, hard to tell what is unique when I’m not sure how other colleges are.
not much.
Nothing - I was not impressed with most faculty.
The faculty is generally able and willing to meet with students at any time and most of the faculty is very understanding.
Students get to know their professors well, small class sizes, etc.
While going through my undergraduate years I would say I had very few faculty members who took notice and interest in my academic achievements. I had a few who would suggest other forms of education that they felt would suit my needs.
Their diverse backgrounds
they care about their students and make an effort to know them more than just a student sitting in their class
Small class sizes make class time more personal. Your professors know you by name and face.

From my experience, they have taken a significant interest in the students
You are not taught by teaching assistants. Also, even faculty not in your major area are often willing to answer questions.
Nothing
Lots of life experience before coming to WSU.
Interactive with the students
There is a variety of backgrounds, they don’t seem as researched -focused as at other school, but that means they are teaching their classes, not having a TA do it for them.

Diversity.
The faculty are willing to help you out and want you to succeed
always willing to help outside of the classroom. they truly want you to excel.
Sometimes they are available
Many of them have experiencing working in their field before they became a professor.
There openness and willingness to interact with students and to help students succeed.
They are interested in students lives and keeping up after graduation.
THEY ARE TRUELY DEDICATED TO THE STUDENTS
The faculty is very supportive of students in helping them achieve their goals. They really work with students when they have questions or want to find things to further their education more.
Many are approachable and interact well with the students and each other.
Through the various departments I took classes from, they seemed very invested in helping students learn and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. There were few faculty that were monotone and who didn’t make much effort and they usually didn’t last long as professors at WSU in my experience. I accredit this to hiring professors as adjunct faculty or on a part time basis so they can be weeded out more easily. the faculty are really what i like a lot and appreciate a lot about wsu
Their experience outside WSU.
I like that many of them had open office hours and were willing to talk when you wanted to discuss issues about class, what steps to take in the future and current affairs.
Diverse pool

not sure
They are very down to earth people and pretty easy to talk to outside of class. You can also tell that a lot of them have a strong care and concern for the community.
They interact with their students on a
professional level and are accessible and helpful
diversity
They have the opportunity to know their students on a first name basis.
Their experience. When I was a student I never left a class feeling like the teacher didn’t know what they were talking about and it was because they had the experience to back up their knowledge.
Over the years I had many different professors with diverse backgrounds. They each had a unique career path before finding themselves at WSU.
I think they for the most part truly care about their students and their achievements and try their hardest to help us, as students, understand the concepts.
Many are personable, more than willing to assist students.
Desire to see students succeed
They seem to get to know their students and care about their success.

They CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS.

Analysis: Recent alumni have very positive feelings about Winona State University faculty. Faculty who demonstrated that they genuinely cared about the students had a lasting and positive impact. What are the primary reasons why it has been positive or negative?
great nursing program - love the 4 year guarantee
My child’s experience with his marketing professors has been well above expectations.
He has enjoyed the atmosphere and the ability to work closely with the faculty.
small classes, environment
He plays basketball there.
My daughter, Rachel, has excelled! So much so, she’s been accepted to numerous law schools with a variety of scholarships. She also feels a part of WSU - a tie that will envelope her for life.
The university facilitates student integration and success. There are plenty of opportunities for practical learning.
Campus life, availability of classes
Size, location, work experience, the set up of the geology program is great. There are some negative politics in the department.
A good education with a small campus life.
She got a degree
Ability to succeed, however I wish WSU would implement job capability and
internships.
Jenny has really enjoyed her time at WSU and repeatedly expressed satisfaction at her choice to attend Winona versus a larger campus such as U of M. Jenny did spend one semester abroad in Ireland, would have appreciated more assistance from the study abroad group. Ireland was not in their portfolio.
My daughter has a great work ethic and was a good student who worked hard for her grades.
Good interaction with teachers and smaller campus. Allowed her to stay focused on studies.
Good experience for our son and staying connected through newsletters and mailings.
They provided guidance on her classes so they all fit in, she was happy with all she learned from her professors.
Well-rounded individual with leadership qualities.
Our child will be able to graduate in 4 years!
Campus size and faculty.
One negative aspect was not getting into core classes needed to graduate. Positive aspect was helpful financial department, overall happy experience.
Good community and area!
Reputation of program, do need to expand this to high schools.
Network of friends, small town life.
If it’s positive for the child, it’s positive for the parents.
College campus size, availability of classes, degrees offered, clubs/organizations offered, cost
Educational experience positive
She loved the campus, the city, her professors/classes and made many, many friends.
Our daughter has had many opportunities to develop her leadership skills. She is a much more confident leader than when she entered as a freshman.
My son has had some great professors! In 4 years, he has only had one really bad experience with a professor-- whom the majority of his same class was having problems with. My son will graduate with a 3.25-3.40 gpa and he has enjoyed the professors and school for the most part. He is a hard worker and most professors know that! And they have taught him well!
Confidence building, independence
fit in well and adjusted; close to home

We have several graduates in our family from WSU. They are all successful alumni.
No contact of parents after admissions day freshman year.
I think he enjoyed his college years. Met new people and friends enjoyed playing sports. Was positive about his teachers. Maintained high grade point average thanks to self motivation and positive instructors. I would highly recommend WSU to anyone.
(so far) coaches and admissions counselor have been great
She has been happy with her experience.
Great campus; enjoyable campus tour; ease of registration
very accommodating
Excellent program with competent and dedicated staff and safe campus that is welcoming.
Positive- academically challenged, positive encouragement, high expectations. Negative- Nursing program needs to concentrate on helping with job placement for new grads in other states besides MN and WI
the dedication and concern by the faculty and staff at Winona State U.
Safe community, academic excellence
opportunity for growth in academics, social setting, community focus
Patrick has enjoyed WSU- good education, athletics and friends
Faculty
Positive- Allowed to be a leader, develop interaction skills with group work, extra curricular experiences, faculty support Negative- health services, need more programs and support for the top issue that college age girls face
high standards, early on the specific, overt orientation program. Connections with nursing faculty, small town, beautiful environment and safe.
The university forgot it was supposed to help their students be successful- no support to “make it.”
Our son went to St. Cloud fist. He had absolutely no guidance from his advisor and also had an experience with a roommate who was continually drunk. He transferred for sophomore year, had had a superb advisor from Day 1 and later became an RA for 2 years. It has been a great experience overall!
Accessible campus, nice facilities, good relationships with faculty.
Staff involvement
4 yr degree, biology professors, campus
life- other students
As our son nears graduation one week from now, we are so pleased with the positive 4-year experience he has had. A confused and somewhat unhappy 18 year old has become a self-confident young man. Bravo!
Excellent Tour, but still waiting to hear if admitted or not
Personal contact, great campus visit, very engaging freshman orientation experience. My son can’t wait to get there in August!
The incoming counselors were great and her overall experience at Winona has been good. The only negative has been trying to find part time work.
Friendly and helpful
preparing her for her career and professors who care
My student learned a lot and was able to carry on conversations about what he learned. He gave credit to the faculty for their genuine interest in educating students as well as preparing them for a career.
The laptop program was a waste!
My student fit in academically and socially
Good faculty and a desired program of study.

I think we should add “Minnesota” to the name of our school. Not like Mankato or Moorhead, but what about “Winona State University of Minnesota”?
Adult learners in the professions seeking to retool
increase diverse student populations
international cooperation
Place an emphasis on a liberal arts education instead of the current trend of vocational training
WSU should look to improve the quality of its student population, not its size
Academics should be a main focus. Flashy ads and marketing are ephemeral. The people, substance and value of WSU is what is important
Health care, Health Care, JOBS, JOBS, K-12 and public school secondary teacher awareness so that they can prepare
Increase visibility of the arts offerings open to the public, and of arts programs for students. Highlight the arts culture of the university.
increase academic standards and student work ethic
start advising students before they transfer to WSU, while they are at a two-year institution and have plans to transfer to WSU
Establish and market some partnering programs with UW-L ... Make this an enticing ‘region’ in which to attend school.
A mechanical engineering program
We need to attract more latino students.

Analysis:
These marketing initiatives were identified as priorities by faculty respondents: enhance overall image (69%); increase number of high achieving students (68%), and increase alumni and friend connections and donations (68%).
It is notable that the objective of increasing the number of students of all types was given the lowest priority (20%), reflecting a desire for broader-based image marketing and/or very targeted results-based marketing.

What do you find to be a unique strength of the Winona State University faculty?
some are very dedicated and will invest a lot of time with individual students
Location and connection to community.
Their expertise in their given fields
commitment to students’ well-being, both academically and personally
Ability to teach in most cases
Hard to generalize personal characteristics, however, their high number of office hours and spending time with students are the unique strength of education here at WSU. Their
most incorporate students into their research
When I first came, I would have said that it really was a community where everyone supported each other and recognized that everyone had their unique added value, whether that be in teaching, research, and/or service. Not only does each faculty member add value but s/he also kept the student not only as a customer but as a future citizen.
Most are dedicated to the University and community

academic inquisitiveness. Older faculty, not so much.
I have been here 17 years and barely know the WSU faculty. There is very little effort to build rapport and connection socially or through interdisciplinary research and teaching. They seem committed to their fields.
Interactions with students

Their willingness to assist students in so many different aspects in and out of the classroom.
Interaction with students.
Willingness to engage students in research
Their connection with the community and industry.
Commitment to teaching, personalized interaction with students

Time in direct contact with students is significant.
A lot of young professors and staff!
In my experience there is nothing unique about the WSU faculty. They are as qualified and in some cases as accomplished as their Ivy League and RI peers. Its that their talents are wasted by teaching students who should not have been allowed to graduate from high school.
Faculty are willing to spend time with individual students.
Caring about the individual students.
Qualification
Their commitment to excellence in teaching and learning in the classroom.
Although I know little about faculty in other WSU colleges, the liberal arts faculty generally combine a strong academic preparation with a dedication to teaching quality and fostering of student success.

The number of advanced degrees across all colleges
There is an emphasis on personnel connections to students in and out of the classrooms. WSU has a vibrant campus life in lecture series, engaged learning, lyceum, library athenaeum, and other campus activities. Students, personnel and the winona community have so many opportunities to learn and share their experiences with the community.

They care about their programs.
A real hands-on and approachable bunch, very engaged in their students.
Accessibility
I think in contrast to larger, research based university settings, that the faculty here are truly interested in teaching and mentoring students. In larger settings, there is a tremendous focus on research and publishing that pulls faculty away from the classroom.
Dealing with changing environments
Student friendly and accommodating.
concern for student success
I know of no unique strength
Teamwork
Willingness to connect with other service faculty on the Rochester campus.
Diverse backgrounds, flexible
The majority of WSU faculty seem to know their students on an individual basis.
Some faculty are absolutely devoted to
their students.
depth of knowledge and professionalism
Most of them really care about helping students and give time -- lots of time -- to students
Many are very engaged with students and provide unique learning experiences.
I’m not sure if this is unique to WSU, but I see a strength in WSU faculty commitment toward student engagement from a community perspective, and faculty’s interactions within the community... both strongly contribute toward community respect and support of WSU
Dedication to teaching
None to speak of.
I would like to say very student-oriented, but not sure that is across the board. The majority is----
Dedication to student growth and development.
The excitement they bring to their classrooms and activities.
Somewhat stronger commitment to teaching than elsewhere, though this is being eroded by a shift toward the research university model.
Dedication to student success
Engagement
Strong ethic of care for student satisfaction and success.
For the most part - faculty are pretty aware of individual students.

Political Science/Public Administration
I will focus solely on the individual major/program of Public Administration. In today’s economic environment, students in public administration engage in public service or civic/political engagement with very real and tangible experience, required internships, and a required senior research course which has led to numerous undergraduate research projects. This has led to very, very high placement of graduates at top M.P.A. instituttions. For example, a current senior graduating in May 2010, received offers for a M.A. in international relations from American University, the Peace Corps, and a M.P.A. at Northern Illinois, which is ranked 3rd in the nation for M.P.A. She chose the M.P.A. because it offered her full tuition with a paid internship for her two years at a #3 ranked program. That is the epitome of strength of a program!
Psychology Research accomplishment and resulting success at placing our students into graduate programs.
Psychology good leadership, good faculty, good record in sending students to graduate and professional schools.
Recreation, Tourism and Therapeutic Recreation
Very high degree of involvement with the community as requirements of classes.

Sociology The skills and knowledge that we teach can be applied to every aspect of our society.

In your opinion, what kind of student fits best at Winona State University?
“well-rounded” slightly above average academic achiever
Motivated, civic responsibility.
a high achieving student who wants to be engaged in the community
Regional and of course with high SAT. I believe also the friendly atmosphere and the tuition fee scholarships make WSU one of the best universities in US for International and out of state students.
Those who might get “lost” at a large research university.
A student that has the desire to be successful in obtaining a degree.
This may sound biased, but the midwest students really do well here as compared to anywhere else.
a student willing to try new things and grow
a student who is extremely strong academically or who has the capability to design a program that maximizes use of the best teachers
Moderately good academically, yet cannot afford a more prestigious institution.
Those who want a job, but we ought to encourage those who want to make a difference.
Graduate students are the next big wave and push as more and more adults are seeking to retool in this time of recession. By focusing exclusively on undergraduate education WSU has forfeited opportunities to recruit from its own undergraduate student base. Graduate education and research builds the reputation of the university and expands outreach, but it has been sorely neglected. There are no scholarships to encourage graduate students to attend WSU. We do not encourage the sharing of research very much on the part of our students and graduate faculty to stimulate the academic environment.
Any willing learner.
high achiever
One who wants to broaden his/her mind, who wants to stay in Winona (and not go home every weekend), and who is adaptable to change.
The size of the campus encourages student interaction with peers and faculty.
A student that likes a lot of interaction with other students, faculty, and their department. Also a student that likes working on projects that can impact the community.
Motivated, intellectually curious, looking for a personal learning experience on a smaller residential
campus with a strong teaching versus research emphasis
one who is willing to take an active role in their education, the university, and community
There is no one kind of student that fits best at WSU. All kinds of students are able to succeed at WSU.
No one type of student fits best - I think we have things to offer all types of students, however, it may not fit for certain individuals
Students who are willing to look into a variety of educational opportunities - those who understand the lifelong learning concept - I am not as interested in the “job seekers” as I am the “knowledge seekers.”
self-motivated hardworking
High performers are recognized an d rewarded
Someone who wants to take their education seriously and engage in their community
Moderately high achieving students with the capability of succeeding independently.
Goal-oriented students who enjoy a smaller campus/community feel.
The students are a bunch of degenerate google monkeys looking for a 4-year cultural suntan. Very few of them are interested in getting an
education, instead they are trying to figure out how to ‘get by’ while still having their ticket punched to join the middle class. I can’t say I blame them, given the expense of a college education and the contempt American society has for education.
Students that are committed to achieving their goals.
All kinds
Students with a strong desire to learn and be a participating part of a university community.
Students with moderately high GPAs and ACTs who live in the region but not so close that they can go home every weekend. Students who want to avoid the impersonal experience of the large lecture hall of larger schools, but who are serious about their education.
Students desiring practical knowledge that will enable them to have successful professional careers
midwest work ethic
midwestern or highly social
All students fit if we spend time in showing them all a true Winona State Welcome
Students in the majors for which WSU is known who have a commitment to their educational growth

educations, close relationship with faculty without frills of ivy league
traditional; although I would like to see more focus on recruiting nontraditional students; current faculty are not ready to teach them however
a student who does NOT want online classes, mass classes of 400+ students, students who are only career-focused and not community/civically-minded
The student who finds a connection to an academic program. What I mean by that is if a student is engaged and understands the meaning and power of participating in their education, this is the best fit for a specific program and the student.
I will answer this, but I also want to state that I have strong reservations about this question. The more kinds of students fit well here, the better university we are. Clearly, too many kinds of students don’t fit right now, and we have not done enough to address that problem. Also, I will honestly describe for you the type of student who I think fits best, meaning will feel most comfortable here. I am not describing the type of student we should seek out, or that I want to fit. The type of student who fits best is a white female from a metropolitan suburb with at least one parent who has gone to college and has a professional position. This student will work hard enough to maintain a B average, and enjoys the alcohol-dominated social life that is prevalent at WSU.
A student who is enthusiastic and embraces opportunities for achieving academic excellence.
Smart student, but not necessarily the most outgoing student. The smaller size, more faculty contact allows to have that slightly reserved student
mature over time rather than being bowled over at a bigger facility and lost.
Eager to learn, appreciate openness and small town, willingness to be a team.
Student who is self-motivated and looking for value from their tuition dollar.
It is my impression that most students currently are 18-23, middle to upper middle class, white, and female, so does that mean that’s what fits?
academic driven, midwestern valued, high achieving professional based student!
Diligent with moderate expectations
One that wishes to influence the positive direction of the human condition.
traditional students
willingness and eager to learn. Accountable for learning. Willing to connect and contribute as an alumnus
better than average act test scorers
Students who 1. are willing to work hard and does not expect to earn an A just for (sometimes) showing up. 2. may need a little more one-on-one or other support sometimes. (This could be actual academic support--or just improving the student’s confidence and comfort level with material/discipline, etc. 3. first-generation student.
not necessarily the smartest students, but those who have the desire to learn and be involved in the University and Winona community
home grown
traditional age, full-time, on-campus
Blue collar backgrounds. Students with parents still interested in traditional college education without the private school price.
A hard-working student with outside interests and curiosity about things other than their major field.
High achiever
A student who is from the general area around Winona. Additionally, Winona’s market seems to focus on the traditional post high school university bound student (ages 18-24).
One who is committed to learning not just earning a grade.
Those with a well-rounded background and a good aptitude for college work.
one who takes charge of his/her life and future development
ambitious, creative and selfless students
Hard working and dedicated students, with a desire for community success.
Students with strong oral and written abilities. Commitment to excellence. Dedicated to service learning.
A student who has a strong work ethic and ability to think out of the box.
A student who does not want to be overwhelmed with large campuses and one that is relatively independent when being able to plan their free time.

What do you find to be a unique strength of the Winona State University faculty?
Most truly care about their student’s success
Most faculty do care about the students and want to best prepare them for what happens after college. I would not consider this unique, but like to think it part of the professor’s personality and job goals.
They are a part of WSU.
I do not know enough about other campuses to compare, but we are fortunate to have many faculty who are truly here for the students, and they are innovative and challenging to the students. I find this to be a liberal and accepting campus with a fair amount of diversity, which also makes us unique.
There are many faculty that will go out of their way for students. We have many great professors that care.
Many are innovative in their approach to using technology
Nothing
The staff are very helpful and want to help students with their education.
I am currently a student at WSU as well as a staff member and I find the strength of the department to be in the Dean’s Office.
They are very approachable and committed.
Their educational background
A small university allows more student contact. Plus technology is a big role in their classrooms.
not in a position to offer an opinion, limited interaction with faculty.

their craft. A minority are concerned about terms and conditions of employment for themselves only.
Years of experience

some aculty, not all though, truly strive for excellence and care about teaching and having students actually learn
Most are approachable
Their willingness to help students achieve excellence
Dedication and hard work of the faculty who have been here the shortest length of time.
Supportive and genuinely interested in the growth and success of students -- I think this is a strength but not unique to WSU.
Willingness to take time with their students.
they only lecture between the hours of 9:00 and 3:00
They have unique personalities.
Overall friendly and helpful
Their union
The time they spend with their students outside of the office.
Everyone seems to support one another
There is nothing “unique”. WSU’s faculty is pretty much the same as the faculty at other universities.
Their pursuit of effective teaching.
The WSU faculty challenge the students they have and for the most part are willing to help them along their journey through college.
SOME FACULTY MEMBERS ACTUALY CARE ABOUT EDUCATING THE STUDENTS RATHER THAN FILLING THEM WITH PROPAGANDA
?
The dedication to innovation and being open and committed to looking at different ways of teaching and delivery. (Rochester)
The fact that they understand it is a small community and make themselves available to students for further assistance/learning opportunities.
in some cases sense of community and overall student satisfaction

University Advancement Relationship building
University Advancement One area of “developing strength” that continues to improve with the work of the communications office is the ability to reconnect alumni & friends with the “new” WSU. WSU is a COMPLETELY different and altogether improved place compared to those who have not been on campus in 10 years of more. I think people of that era & before maybe have a subdued enthusiasm about their alma matre, and when they realize what is actually happening on our campus--those feelings of pride are validated and enhanced greatly.
University Advancement Staff strive to be their best for the university and it’s goals
University Advancement Quality of work accomplished with resources that are modest for a university of WSU’s size and mission.

In your opinion, what kind of student fits best at Winona State University?
I don’t work on the academic side of the university, but my experience with students has been that they are goal oriented
Any, traditional, non-traditional
One who is dedicated to his/her endeavor and one who is willing to reach out to our community.
Traditional students, since that is the majority, but all students should feel welcome.
Students right out of high school.
I believe a high achieving student that has to work hard towards success. Also, students that participate in funding their own education.
Any student does.
traditional nursing major.
Winona student...more traditional Rochester student..more diverse and non-traditional
Any student who wants an education.
I think WSU appeals directly to students with drive and aspirations to succeed. I think this is an incredable environment for any student to engage in their higher education experience, and the resources available to them are more plentiful than many might imagine. However, I think they need to be motivated to find and engage those experiences for themselves in many instances.
Anyone who wants to achieve and is willing to work hard for it.
Any student who has a commitment to learn, regardless of their financial background. The student who normally would not be able to afford college
is more appreciative of receiving the opportunity through grants and scholarships.
A student that knows their academic goal.
Any student that wants a better life for their future is the right fit with WSU
Motivated students desiring to live in a small community.
Everyone is welcome
Those who want to learn. if a student is here just because their parents want them to be, they won’t succeed. but if they want to be here, they can achieve great things. not all students are ready to go to college right away though. sometimes it takes a year or two for the students to figure things out. all students could fit winona
Student who like a “small town” feeling.
Someone from a medium to small community with a good value system and supportive network of friends and family
I don’t believe there is “a kind of student” that best fits Winona State University. Diversity is needed.
Practical, hard-working, positive students (not only in school but also in work-study, off-campus jobs, etc.) who are inexperienced (or immature, or unfocused) with pure academics. More interested in outcomes (e.g., skills or careers) than process.
Hard working, civiv minded, ACT average of 25.
out-of country, they are here to learn and can really apply themselves
well-rounded, family orientated
Any student that wishes a 4 year degree in the majors offered here at WSU.
Fiscally responsible students who understand they need a degree and don’t want to travel more than 5 hours from home.
A student who is not particular or concerned with status.
Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks. Tall kids, short kids, even kids with chicken pox.
One of average intellegence who is seeking to learn in a nurturing environment that allows for exploration.
I think any student can find success here as long as they are willing to work hard and take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them.
ONE WHO HAS A SINCERE DESIRE TO LEARN
I’d like to think that all students “fit” at Winona State University.
all who have a desire to learn and better themselves
All students that meet current ACT guidelines should be given an opportunity for college education. Current ACT guidelines are obtainable by those motivated. Cost of education at WSU is an issue for middle class families even with financial aid awards with public higher education becoming a luxury affordable by the upper class only.

18 - 24
A student who would like a more interactive approach with faculy and staff and one who is willing to join organizations and help the world

our reputation as a good place to go to school as well.
a student who is engaged in student life, positive, excited to learn, part of community, exhibits high energy level.
Most of our studnets are first generation college students from rural communities and the twin cities. These seem to be the type of students that attend WSU
One that knows what they want, and will work for it
A student who is willing to apply themselves.
I love the “small” town feel of the university, not so gigantic you can’t relate to people and things.
hard working, stay on task, loves being outside, involved student

In your opinion, what should the primary marketing and communication objectives of Winona State University be?
Recruiting students
Attracting and retaining students who will succeed at WSU. Developing strong affiliation with WSU by employees, alum, benefactors and the community.
Clear, proactive communication of the positive projects and undertakings that are happening on campus. What makes us stand out as a great school to attend and a great place to work.
1) Education of the whole person 2) Benefits of a lifelong relationship with WSU
To let the world know how special we are.
Premier comprehensive public university
Relevant array of programs. Active learning. Choose success. Right size, right location, right choice.
To increase our visibility in the three state region by emphasizing our mission and vision, our beautiful campus and location, and our commitment to community.
Increase WSU’s visibility in media (print, radio, & TV) and perhaps web 2.0 type ads. Ensure WSU’s student focus comes across.
Enhance public perception of WSU as a place for quality academics and rich student life, at value price. Attract potential students and communicate the university’s positive outcomes--e.g. impact on local/regional area, individual student achievement, etc.
The primary marketing and communication objective should highlight all of the accomplishments
that our students achieve on and off campus. It should also highlight aspects of the university other than just athletics, rewarding students who are excelling in academics and clubs as well.
ENROLLMENT
promote and share our student, faculty, staff and institutional success stories; communicate how our university connects and collaborates with the community to address problems and needs; publicize proactive efforts by university to address key social issues such as environmental issues, fiscal responsibility, student conduct
-Student Success -Distinctive Campus -Sustainability
To gain regional distinction for our academic programs such as nursing has done. To capitalize our being a welcoming campus. To capitalize on our location.
To attract a diverse body of students to attend WSU.
Support recruitment of quality students who will “fit” and succeed at WSU Support institutional goals that improve quality of life in the community
Attracting students Providing current information Spotlight on our strengths in programs and innovation Promoting our faculty and staff accomplishments
Informing people of: 1. Our quality education at an affordable price. 2. Opportunities for faculty and student interactions.
I would like it to be more inclusive for all market segments, not only directed to fist year students. And, a uniformed
and well updated website every time. It would be nice to see our website updated all across the departments and services. I know it is a department responsibility but unfortunately not all faculty understand how to manage a website and this is a problem, in my opinion.

Which of the below marketing and communications objectives make the most sense for WSU in your opinion (please select all that apply)?
Analysis:
Winona State University administrators ranked the rich environment, continuous development of the whole student and the increasing types of students found at WSU as ideal primary marketing objectives. The highest ranked marketing objectives by administrators were not entirely consistent with areas identified as current strengths by internal and external audiences.
Academic offerings for all stages in life was, by far, the lowest ranked initiative, followed by the development of non-public financial resources and leadership in technology. The low rankings of these initiatives could be attributed to possible beliefs that the initiatives have already been emphasized enough or confusion over what the real objective of the initiative is.
When asked to rate what objective administrators thought made the most sense to them, 86% of respondents chose enhancing the overall image and credibility of the university. This answer was clearly the most popular and the only response to receive an overwhelming majority of responses. This result could point to an uncertainty among administrators in regards to specific areas that need an increase in marketing emphasis.

I am now going to share a few statements with you and ask you to indicate whether or not you agree that they seem to describe Winona State University. You will be asked to give them a score of 1 – 4. 1 is strongly disagree and 4 is strongly agree.
What traits and skills would you like to see in WSU students that you don’t see now?A required internship for each department. Students, especially engineering students, are too focused on classroom work and textbooks, more industry experience. I understand the engineering students don’t have time in their schedule for an internship, but room needs to be made.
Says she’s blessed with the students
she works with from WSU. That they’re not good, not excellent, but far above! Although, she recognizes other businesses aren’t as lucky. She hears some students need to be more mature, to take their job more seriously. Getting and knowing they need experience.
Overall, graduates need to work on soft skills, like professionalism, but not
WSU.
More work in community. Like projects relating to the real world and gaining experience. Students need to be able to relate to life, not just a textbook. Take students out of the classroom and show them an experience.

WSU students seem to be organized, but not aggressive enough.
Went to WSU to talk at the accounting association meeting. Said students were unhappy with their education and felt they weren’t getting the quality they wished for.
Strong- good education, WSU grads understand business concepts; Weak- Working with people part-time job push. Kids should have a part time job to learn people skills.

Benefacto
rsBenefactorsIn your opinion, what is WSU’s greatest contribution to its community? The employment opportunities for the community. Also the benefit of a nice and beautiful college in a small town.
Does WSU maintain adequate communication with you? How could WSU better communicate?WSU has done an excellent job! Within the last 15 years especially (He’s been out for 48 years). Thought a lot of college probably does what WSU does, so they can get more money from alumni.
What do you like most about your involvement and communication with WSU? And least?Like to hear about how well and how much the university has grown. Proud of how fine its become. Always recommends WSU to any young person in the Twin Cities that he talks to.
In your opinion, what sets WSU or WSU graduates apart from other colleges? Can’t pinpoint, but believes WSU has what students look for.
Do you have any other feedback about the WSU students or the university as a whole?WSU education suited him very well, and is extremely proud of it.
Analysis:
Benefactor interview responses ranged from highly receptive and positive to an unwillingness to be interviewed. One benefactor in particular spoke very optimistically about Winona State University’s improvement over the last 15 years and his enthusiasm in recommending the university. When attempting to conduct as many interviews as possible, our interviewer encountered occasional avoidance that could be attributed to a high level of recent donation requests.

Community Leaders
In your opinion, what is WSU’s greatest contribution to the community?Being an employer- quality education, prepared, engaged learning program, WSU students go beyond the classroom.
Economic, entertainment and beauty. Without WSU Winona would just be another small town.
Economic impact.
Employment, educational and cultural opportunity
What could WSU do better in the community? How could WSU make a greater impact in the community?Communicate better. Periodic letters to the editor, guest columns, direct mail (realizes expense), or President, deans or faculty leaders write in community newspapers as guest columnists just to let community know school starts in a week and things of that nature.
Visibility, awareness, more programs/media attention. Missing the engaged piece, let community know of cool programs. Another link integrated in the engaged learning program to a bigger degree.
Professors need to have better accountability when students volunteer. Feel as though focus of projects is lost when students volunteer.
Neighborhood is more involved in rental and parking
In your opinion, what sets WSU or WSU graduates apart from other colleges? The engaged learning program. Accessibility to staff and faculty.
Smaller town students
Nice students and people
Have you found students from WSU to be involved in community and volunteerism?Yes, I know they do that. Maybe need more publicity. Recognizes Viki English as PR rep, wants more WSU awareness.
Oh, my god, yes! Nearly 16,000 hours of service from WSU students. Have staff on board of directors and everyone’s involved! They utilize students, volunteerism and training very well at WSU. Although, she thinks it could be for specific program, maybe branch out to entire university.
Yes, a few.
yes
How could WSU better connect and communicate with you?Letter to the editor.
Once a year do an ‘engaged learning’ retreat or meet and greet where community says their expectations of the students and vice versa. Also good
for community to understand programs.
WSU is doing a good job.
Do a better job now that they include neighborhood regular community meetings, updates on activities, campus planning and construction.
Do you have any other feedback about the WSU students or the university as a whole?Wish for more frequent communication.

Community & Technical CollegesIn your opinion, what does WSU do very well and not well at all?I feel Winona State University has a good general reputation for quality. Nonetheless, I feel many in the community do not have more specific information about WSU…specifically about academic programs. In some respects, WSU is a well kept secret.
WSU does a good job of filling up the freshman class. Winona has a good reputation and does well promoting the physical beauty of the campus. Not so well accepting transfer credits.
Outcomes assessment. WSU represents quality and value very well. They represent the state system very well, both in and out of state. They do not articulate with 2-year programs in a fair way. They articulate as a neighbor, not a partner. They do not treat 2-year counterparts in education correctly.
WSU does a very good job at the campus beautification, infrastructure, and does a great job with student involvement with applied learning. We consider WSU a model for this. They are also very good at sports and running the athletic department.
WSU is not doing a good job accepting transfer students. It’s a really big struggle. Out of the seven state colleges and universities in the MnSCU system, WSU is the worst. I would rather deal with schools in Wisconsin and out of state. There are issues with the relationship between main campus and the Rochester campus. Part of it is communication in Rochester. Rochester sort of has an out of sight, out of mind
view of Winona State’s main campus. WSU also needs to do a better job with
community relations.
How could WSU better connect and communicate with you?A number of our students transfer to WSU. However, I do not recall senior officials visiting our campus to learn more about our college, our curriculum and long term plans. With the recently approved associate of science degree, it is anticipated that more students will have an interest in transferring to WSU. Some high-level dialog might be very timely.
More inclusion
Speaking of admissions, I wished for occasional conversations to touch base. I have a good relationship with Carl Stange. Keep up that good work.
Have the administration call and explain that they would like to extend the guarantee of all associate degree completers in AA/AF categories, provide junior level standing of 60 of the 120 credits needed. This one thing would shift migration of best students who’ve completed a 2-year level to 4-year institutions.
Currently, they’re doing a pretty good job communicating with me personally. I am an alumni, so that helps. Every two weeks interviewees attend a meeting called the “Learning Alliance.” It consists of RCTC and WSU employees. This makes me feel knowledgeable about WSU.
In your opinion, what is Winona State University’s greatest strength?Beautiful campus Small town atmosphere
What could Winona State University be doing better to assist students who are transferring from your institution to Winona State University?Change staff in admissions.
I checked and WSU doesn’t have a representative to recruit students. Other institutions do this on a regular basis. I called WSU admissions and found Winona State doesn’t have a representative to travel to Riverland. Also I recommended a transfer representative.
They are genuinely articulate at an institutional college and program level where articulation agreements result and prove equal credit and sharing of bachelor degree junior year standing, regardless of program completion.
I would not send my kids to a school that will not honor two years of classes. It’s hard to do business with schools that don’t articulate this.
Generally, 2-year transfer degrees are difficult because schools are now enrollment driven.
They could hire a transfer specialist,

maybe someone from a 2-year MnSCU institution. The school is not generous with campus credits. WSU is not like any other institution in that aspect.
In your opinion, what kind of transfer student fits best at Winona State University? Anyone willing to seek a 4 year degree
Is there an area of study or major that stands out at Winona State University? If so, please identify which one.Nursing and teaching
In your opinion, what sets Winona State University or Winona State University graduates apart from other colleges? Graduates are well-rounded
Don’t know enough, but would say a focus on service learning is an asset.
Outstanding president focuses on quality teaching and learning, athletic program, and school’s location.
WSU is the premier small residential campus. It’s “Harvard on the Mississippi.” The Residential program sets apart WSU from the rest in the MnSCU system and the nation.
Please indicate the programs at the Winona State University Rochester campus with which you are aware: WSU-R/RCTC degree completion programs
Accounting
Business administration
Computer science
Do you have any other feedback about the WSU students or the university as a whole?I recommend WSU for transferring students, but the turnover of credits is often difficult. Fabulous school, good reputation, we just need to continue the relationship.
WSU needs to get on the web and look at the state board for community/technical ICRC. Look at
an understanding between 2 and 4 year degrees. They should know the articulation that they share. Enrollment-driven 4-year schools pass judgment. It’s killing the 4-year schools in MnSCU. Look at Iowa, Colorado, they offer 2-year transferable degrees. Reality is, states like Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, and Washington are getting their act together with parents and tax payers.
Personally, I would like to see the WSU administration spend more time in Rochester. I had the impression that Rochester would be frequently visited. Community shakers and movers in Rochester don’t give enough credit to WSU. They almost have a bad image of the school when in reality they’re bigger players than the U of M, St. Cloud, and Mankato.
