11 Sept 45: Regn letter sent locally on the day British troops re-entered the city. Franked by

Japaneses Occup General Issue 15c (2) for 8c postage + 15c regn fee, 7c excess, this later

amount being meaningless owing to rampant inflation. The stamps are cancelled with J.D4

(LRD). CLEAN The enclosed letter reads:-

Dear Dr H.M.Soo,

I am very glad to write to you today because the British troops have passed my office and the

Government Buildings at 10.40 a.m. sharp.

May this letter be a sort of memory to us. I may also mention that the both sides of the road i.e.

Jalan Raya stood various nationalities with cheers when the troops passed. The town is

beautifully decorated with flags and flowers papers and lamp bulbs of different colours.

Let us be happy together for the victory of our nation and the allied nations.
