Adaptation Film ReviewFrance Persepolis (2007)Directed by Vincent Paronnaud.
Vincent Paronnaud is a French comic artist and filmmaker, known for his macabre sense of humour. Persepolis isnt Paronnauds most recent film but its one of his most known pieces of work. Persepolis is a true story based upon a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi. The film follows Satrapis life, as a young Iranian girl growing up during the Islamic Revolution. As soon as the film starts we realise that Marjane is very outspoken and curious girl who likes to bend the rules, and as she grows into a woman she travels to the west of the world experiencing a whole new culture to what shes used too. During the whole film her nan is a big influence on her and you can see that she looks up to her a great deal.
The film starts off in colour and as shes reminiscing her past, it changes to black and white which is a nice touch to identify that these are memories were looking back on. The way in which the main character always stands out by being in white and the rest of the characters are dressed in black is a nice touch, which points out that she doesnt want to follow in her countries rules no longer. Overall its a pleasant film to watch due to the animation as it has that childish drawn way about it, and if youre interested in auto-biographies then give it a go.
