Personal Choice Reading

Get out your Personal Choice Reading (PCR) book and start in. We’ll have 15-20 minutes to read today.

Need a new book? Explore the class library and find one. Check out your book on the library clipboard.

I will be calling a few of you over for one-on-one conferences.

I will hand out “Reading Self-Reflections” for those of you with conferences on Monday.

Did anyone finish a book since last class?

Talk about books…

Turn to a partner and talk about your book. Tell them what is happening in your book and how you think it will end—but don’t give away spoilers if you already know!

Get out your “4 Questions” sheet from yesterday

Take a few minutes to get the rest of your signatures and have Mr. T initial it.

SOCRATIC SEMINAR:4 QUESTIONS

1. Each person creates four questions on the sheet(One level 1, three level 2/3)

2. Each person gets the signatures of four peers who verify that the questions are the right levels and identify their favorite question.

3. When you have all questions written and all signatures, have Mr. T initial your paper. THIS IS YOUR TICKET INTO THE SEMINAR/DISCUSSION.

4. When you finish, go back to marking up our two texts—the “Snookie” article and the survey results.

The Essential Question

Our discussion can take many directions, and that’s fine. But we need one main question to guide our exploration of the topic.

Our essential question for this Socratic Seminar will be…

Is reality television harmful or beneficial to our culture?

2. The survey results significantly marked-up to show your thinking

3. The “4 Questions” worksheet with my initials on it

4. Your own piece of evidence (either described on the “Student-Discovered Evidence sheet or a copy brought in and clearly marked.)
