The Night Jesus Was Betrayed

• Peter promised that he would not deny Jesus (Lk. 22:31-34)

• Peter fell asleep and was not watchful (Lk. 22:39-46)

• Peter denied Jesus and sinned (Lk. 22:54-59)

• Peter got a wake-up call (Lk. 22:60-62)

The Night Jesus Was Betrayed

• We must remember not to let our guard down (Lk. 22:31-34; 1 Cor. 9:26-27; Gal. 5:4; 1 Tim. 4:1; Heb. 6:1ff; 10:26; Jas. 5:19-20; 2 Pet. 2:20-22)

• We must remember the importance of staying awake spiritually (Lk. 22:45-46; Rom. 13:11-12; 1 Cor. 11:30; 15:34; Eph. 5:14; 1 Thess. 5:6)

Peter’s Wake-Up Call

• The rooster’s crow was Peter’s wake-up call (Lk. 22:60)

• The rooster’s crow assured Peter that Jesus was still in control (Lk. 22:61)

• The rooster’s crow told Peter that he would need to change and be restored (Lk. 22:62)

Peter’s Wake-Up Call

• Peter learned that Jesus has concern for the penitent (Lk. 22:32; 2 Peter 3:9)

• Peter learned that failure does not have to be final (Lk. 22:32; 2 Cor. 7:9-10)

• Peter learned that he would need to “pick up the pieces of his life,” start over, and get back to work for Jesus (Lk. 22:32; Jn. 21:15-17; Acts 2:14ff; 10:1ff)

God Gives Us A Wake-Up Call

• The Bible and gospel preaching (2 Sam. 12:7,13; 1 Cor. 1:21; Heb. 4:12)

• Hardships of sinful living (Lk. 15:14-20)

• A pricked conscience (Acts 2:37; Psa. 51:2-4)

• Law enforcement (Rom. 13:1ff; 1 Pet. 2:13-17)

• A spiritually-minded Christian (Gal. 6:1-2; Jas. 5:19-20)

God Gives Us A Wake-Up Call

• Severe illness (Phil. 2:27)

• Death of others around us (Heb. 9:27)

• Difficult times (Heb. 12:5-12)

• Fear of the judgment day (Heb. 10:27,31)

• Judgment day (Rev. 20:11-15; 21:8,27; 22:14-15)

Peter Got A Wake-Up Call

• Look at what Peter did with his wake-up call: many converted in the book of Acts, two books of the NT, etc.

• What will you do with the wake-up call that God sends your way? Stay asleep or change?
