Thank you for your interest in hosting one of Aimee Sadler's training and behavior seminarsand/or attending an internship for shelter trainers with the behavior team at theSouthampton Animal Shelter in NY.
WHAT:
We offer custom internships to shelter personnel and shelter trainers exclusively and
in the context of working with sheltered animals. Please note: we do not offer internships for
private dog training. We are here to help you advance your skills as handlers and trainers, with
a better understanding of canine behavior within the context of sheltering, so that you can
enhance the quality of life for your animals as well as save more lives!
In addition to internships, we also offer training & behavior seminars at your
organization. Our seminars include a Power Point presentation, packed with video examples, followed by hands-on work with your sheltered dogs. Many shelters have chosen to add
additional days of hands-on training to work on any aspect of our Training and Behavior
Department Program or protocols that will benefit their organization. Our most requestedseminar is "Playing for Life!...A Training & Behavior Program for Sheltered Dogsfeaturing Play Groups".

WHEN:
We do not have set dates/curriculum for our internship program. Understanding that each
shelter and its' resources differ, we have chosen to maintain individualized
internships to best meet your needs. Many people feel that 5 days give them a more solid
foundation and understanding of our Training and Behavior programs and the principles behindour protocols. If you feel our programs can help you, please contact us to discuss dates and a
curriculum that will suit you best!
HOW:
With over 25 years of experience working with multiple species in varying venues, our Director of
Behavior & Training, Aimee Sadler , has developed training and behavior programs thatmaximize resources to meet the needs of more sheltered animals resulting in solid life-saving
statistics at two open admission shelters in two different regions of the country. Both the
Longmont Humane Society and the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation havebeen able to maintain a Live Release Rate for their canine populations exceeding
95%!Aimee has been recognized for her work in animal welfare and is one of the proudrecipients of the Henry Bergh Leadership Award for 2011. Aimee now travels the country and has
introduced play groups to over 30 shelters, resulting in happier and healthier animals (and staff
and volunteers!) and reduced euthanasia. Here's what some people are saying about theirexperience working with Aimee and her behavior teams:
"Hope to see you again at HCAS!!!!! Our dogs(and our volunteers/staff) have reallllyyy been loving thegroup play sessions.Thank you for showing us the way :)"...Victoria Parker, volunteer
"My short feedback is that I greatly enjoyed her presentation and found it well done anddisplaying a real understanding of the unique challenges, of working with animals in the shelterenvironment. The playgroups and the necessary knowledge and skills needed to run them, wereexcellently explained and demonstrated to attendees. I personally feel that my training tool boxhas been expanded and I feel confident that I now have the skills to assist in the running ofplaygroups. I am personally grateful to Aimee, for opening this door for us and most importantlyfor the dogs that will benefit enormously from this enriching activity. Thank you to everyone whomade this possible. Lauren Ranghelli KPA CTP"
