GPROGRAMME DETAILSThe Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice offers several specialisation streams. All streams share three core courses, and students select one programme specialisation stream as the four th course.

ACTION-RESEARCH PROJECTOn completion of the programme students will showcase their new skills in a final action research project conducted off campus back in their workplace.

SPECIALISATION STREAMCourse 4:Students complete a specialisation stream – open course students can choose one of the two general specialisations, while students on customised programmes will complete the niche specialisation stream that aligns with their tailored programme.

GENERAL SPECIALISATION STREAMSStream 1: Innovative Leadership

Course: Social Innovation and EntrepreneurshipSuccessfully move up the organisational ranks. This stream focuses on how to help students make the jump to the next level in their career, flex their innovative and creative muscles and build entre/intrapreneurial competencies that will add value.

DStream 2: Business Administration Course: Business Acumen II

Become an effective and powerful business leader. This course seeks to develop and strengthen students’ business acumen, giving them the tools and techniques to help them recognise and unlock their full potential as a successful manager and inspiring leader.

NICHE SPECIALISATION STREAMSStream 3: Wine Business Management

Course: Wine Business ManagementBuild a career in the wine industr y. This course is tailored to the needs of the wine industr y. It gives delegates cr itical market insight and the business acumen and leadership skills needed to maximise oppor tunities in the wine industr y and make themselves and their organisations more competitive .

Stream 4: Leadership in Health Care Course: Leadership in Health Care

Deepen your industr y insights and leadership skills. This stream enables students to negotiate the complex challenges of the Health Care industr y and gives them critical insight into how they can be a better catalyst for change to meet health care challenges.

Stream 5: Retail Management Course: Retail Management

Be a more effective retailer. This stream develops the specialist marketing and logistical skills students need to excel and grow to become a leader in the retail industr y.

Stream 6: Public Sector ManagementCourse: Public Sector Management

Play a leading role in good governance. This stream trains managers to work effectively in government and public sector organisations and to transform the complex rules, policies and systems of this field into effective practice .

Action Learning Practice what you’ve learned. This course is specifically designed to let students apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to meet real-life business challenges in professional organisations. PENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS• Due to the intensity of the programme, applicants need to demonstrate a high level of

personal motivation, stamina and initiative• Applicants must show a willingness to work in a group situation and an ability to tolerate

and manage pressure and conflict. Individuals are assessed with this in mind • Applicants should be at least 25 years old and have a minimum of three years’ relevant

work experience• A graduate-level qualification or NQF level 7 equivalent is required. Applicants without a

degree may be considered through the Recognition of Pr ior Learning (RPL) route• Submit the UCT online admission application, three shor t motivations, full academic

records, curr iculum vitae and the application information document• Confidential evaluator’s forms from two individuals who know the applicant in a professional

context, but who are not close family members • An inter view may be required; applicants will be advised• Upon acceptance, the Admissions Depar tment will advise on technical requirements • Because of the practical focus of the programmes, it is preferable that applicants are

employed for the duration of their studies, either by an organisation or through personal entrepreneurial activities

• Applicants who are not employed will be responsible for finding an organisation that will allow them to do research in the organisation and implement action learning assignments

• Action learning assignments require ethical clearance from the organisation being.
