RMO Welcome
Dear newly-qualified doctors,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to a most noble profession and to Counties Manukau Health.
As you progress through one of the most challenging transitions in your clinical lives, the transition from
undergraduate study to professional practice, we at Counties Manukau Health intend to support you every
step of the way. Our post-graduate year one (PGY1) Orientation programme is but the first display of our
commitment to your learning and development.
This year's PGY1 Orientation programme has been developed by individuals who have been 'in your shoes'
in the recent past and has been enriched by the contribution of our current PGY1 house officers. It is the
culmination of months of planning, hours of hard work and the dedication of a team who have gone to
great lengths to address your educational needs.
As would be expected of the District Health Board which houses the Ko Awatea Centre for Health System
Improvement and Innovation, we have infused the principles of innovation and improvement into the
development of our PGY1 Orientation programme in order to deliver you an Orientation Week that is

Hospital Orientation (Monday 23rd November, 2:00pm to 4:30pm)
The MMH campus is extensive. As a new house officer, finding locations within it can be overwhelming
especially if you have never worked here before. To maximise your retention of important areas within the
MMH campus, you will be oriented to locations that will be particularly relevant to you as a PGY1 house
officer. Our current PGY1 house officers have been consulted to determine the ‘Top 20’ locations that all
house officers new to MMH must know.
During Monday afternoon, in addition to physical locations, you will be orientated to key services within
CMH. They include: Allied Health, our Acute and Post-Acute Care (APAC) Team, Bereavement Care,
Infection Control, Occupational Health, our OutPatient IntraVenous Antibiotics (OPIVA) service and VTE
prevention.
To ensure you derive the most benefit out of the hospital orientation you will be in teams with colleagues
who will (mostly) be working in the same specialty as you. The teams for the Hospital Orientation session
are given below.
