After the structural consolidation of the arch .Traditional lime plaster (1:3) in the room of roughplaster of 1.5” thickness applied after.

STRUCTURAL CONSOLIDATION: CRACK STITCHING

CONSOLIDATION: LIME PLASTERING

The south eastern Basement room had majorcracks in the arch. This was addressed bystitching using SS clipping rod which has a12mm dia. and is 2’ long. The rods are appliedwith a layer of anti-corrosive paint. The ends ofthe rod are bent 6’’ each to be inserted into themasonry.

Removing theplaster inUGSER toassess thecracks in themasonry.

• The cracks wereconsolidated byremoving theplaster.

• Inserting granitelintels(50mmx150mmx1000mm) in thecracks.

• At an interval of1-1.2m to ensurethat there’s nofurther growthof crack.

WESTERN YARD

INSPECTION: BUILDING FOUNDATION

The earth on the north west cornerof western balcony, was excavatedto establish the original ground leveland to examine the foundation

A trench of 0.9m X 1.8m X1.8m was dug adjacent to thewall of western balcony.The excavation exposed theoriginal ground level andfoundation.A cast iron pipe was alsodiscovered near the northwest corner of the balcony.

After replacing the wooden structural member the new wooden planks(1” thick)were relayed on the balcony as the older ones were decayedand deteriorated.

STRUCTURAL CONSOLIDATION- DARBAR HALL BALCONY

The old plankswere reused infront of theentrances toadjacent andopenings to thebalcony, otherarea of thebalcony wereredone using thenew wood of 1inch thickness

Faulty and decayedstructural woodenmembers werereplaced wherevernecessary.Black japan wasapplied to the portionembedded into thewall.

STRUCTURAL CONSOLIDATION- CIRCULAR BALCONY

The decayed rafters in the circular balcony were replace bynew wood. Matching the size and joinery details of the olderwood (4” X 6”) The rafters were inserted inside the wall till itsentire thickness, i.e. 3 feet.

The new and reused wood in the balcony is treated withanti-termite solution the portion of the rafter inside thewall is painted with black japan.

Status: ongoing

The joints on the circular balcony were strengthened using SS L- shaped plates, after which the new wooden planks were re-laid on the balcony screwing them to the rafters. Wooden strips were used along the circular balcony to give it a circular look.

The red oxide flooring of western balcony wasremoved exposing deteriorated madras terrace. Theexposed madras terrace has cracks and the rafterwere deteriorated.

Status: ongoing

Cracks and decayed wooden member in the terrace.

STRUCTURAL CONSOLIDATION- CIRCULAR BALCONY

FIRST FLOOR

The load on the madrasterrace was kept for aperiod of 1 weak.

Area under major distress in the western balcony

To examine the strength ofmadras terrace roof a uniformload of 400 kg was put on thecritical area of the terrace. Theload on the madras terrace waskept for a period of 1 week.

A groove was made in thee wall adjacent to the gutterchannel to insert the lead sheet, in order to prevent anywater percolation along the edges of the lead sheetadjacent to the wall

After inserting the lead sheet in the groove the jointswould be soldered and sealed with another piece of leadStarting of work: 05.07.2016

The skylight in the dome was inspected. Thewood along the lining of the opening wasdeteriorated due to moisture ingress, whichwas removed carefully.After removing the wooden pieces it wasfound that the dome had wooden structuralsystem with a layer of madras terrace aboveit.The wood inside the dome is proposed to beexamined using endoscopy.
