    In the early 1970s, New Day Publishers began a line

    of small affordable books for children.

    Philippine Appliance Corporation (Philacor) sponsored the

    publication of a bookseries called The Young Peoples Library

    In 1976:

    Anim na Dulang Pilipino Para Sa Mga Bata by Amelia Lapena

    Bonifacio. Abadeja: Ang Ating Sinderela by Lapena Bonifacio.

    In 1977:

    The Nutrition of the Philippines initiated a childrens book

    development project.

    Headed by poetic Virgilio Almario. It was called Aklat Adarna.

    1980S

    By 1980s, the increase in volume of the Aklat Adarna

    Books had prompted the establishment of the Childrens

    Communication Center.

    There are eight sub-series:

    Aklat ng Karanasan

    Aklat ng Tahanan

    Aklat ng Aliw Aklat ng Lahi

    Aklat ng Kasaysayan

    In 1982 to 1983 Mr. and Ms. Magazine sponsored

    a writing contest for short stories for children.

    The Philippine Board on Books for Young People

    (PBBY) was established in 1983.

    Third Tuesday of July was proclaimed as National

    Childrens Book Day.

    Production of Calle Sesame in 1983.

    A year later, it was replaced by Batibot.

    The latter half of the 1980s, marks the beginning

    of legitimacy for childrens literature in thePhilippines.

    1990S

    In 1990, Bookmark launched its Filipino Folktale Series

    with three titles by Marla Yotoko Chorengel.

    The First Cashew Nut (ill. By Beth Parocha)

    Why The Sky is High? ( ill. By Bernie Solina)

    Bathala and The Gift of Rice ( ill. By Ibarra Crisostomo)

    Bookmark also experimented with narrative poetry for

    adolescent and pre-adolescent readers with:

    began its childrens book line with Batibot.

    In 1993, Cacho Publishing House, experimented small books with

    limited text and full-color illustrations that can be sold for less than the

    price of a fast food items.
