The words and meaning call us to a higher praise and worship in Hebrew and English: “El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai ["God Almighty, God Almighty"] El-Elyon na Adonai ["God in the highest, Oh, Lord"] Age to age, You're still the same By the power of the name El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai Erkamka na Adonai [God Almighty, God Almighty," “We will love You, Oh, Lord"] We will praise and lift You high El-Shaddai” In Hebrew, ‘El Shaddai” is one of the most powerful and meaningful names for God in the Old Testament. “El Shaddai means “God, the All-sufficient One.” In its Hebrew depth we find the most beautiful imagery in “El Shaddai” meaning, “God is my Breasts,” which is a clear and passionate symbol of sustenance and parental love meaning we are God’s child “to whom we cry “Abba, Father.” He is “El Shaddai,” “God Almighty,” a name that reflects upon His strength, majesty, and power. David the Psalmist wrote, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1) “God Almighty,” the God who is enough to meet any need according to His Will and who is sufficient in both His power and provision as our Great Shepherd to sustain, nourish and protects us. It is with His great compassion that He is able to take our total weakness and give us strength by taking our inadequate resources and in His sufficiency alone use what we have for His great and powerful purposes as we humbly yield our weaknesses to Him. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:15 “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” To grasp the eternal, we must understand the limitless power and the paternal nature of God and who He is. A mere acquaintance with God is not enough and perhaps self-sufficiency is life’s greatest barricade when it comes to finding true intimacy with God. Pastor Wilbur Rees wrote, “… too many Americans have been inoculated with a slight case of Christianity that is preventing them from getting the real thing.” Yes, it is one thing to be saved but it is quite another to be transformed by God. Paul wrote in Romans 8:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s Will is—His good, pleasing and perfect Will.” Blessings, Pastor Chuck

Pastor’s Pondering

In 1982, Amy Grant made famous a beautiful song “El Shaddai” written by Michael Card and John Thompson.

The words and meaning call us to a higher praise and worship in Hebrew and English:

“El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai ["God Almighty, God Almighty"] El-Elyon na Adonai ["God in the highest, Oh, Lord"] Age to age, You're still the same By the power of the name El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai Erkamka na Adonai [God Almighty, God Almighty," “We will love You, Oh, Lord"] We will praise and lift You high El-Shaddai” In Hebrew, ‘El Shaddai” is one of the most powerful and meaningful names for God in the Old Testament. “El Shaddai means “God, the All-sufficient One.” In its Hebrew depth we find the most beautiful imagery in “El Shaddai” meaning, “God is my Breasts,” which is a clear and passionate symbol of sustenance and parental love meaning we are God’s child “to whom we cry “Abba, Father.”

He is “El Shaddai,” “God Almighty,” a name that reflects upon His strength, majesty, and power.

And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

To grasp the eternal, we must understand the limitless power and the paternal nature of God and who He is.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s Will is—His good, pleasing and perfect Will.”

Blessings,

I think God shows himself in each season of the year. In the fall he gives us the leaves, in the winter he gives us the snowflakes, in the spring the new flowers and in the summer his lightning bugs! Aren’t all those reminders of God?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 A Time for Everything

1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,

4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Seasons Change but God Never Changes

Do you ever wonder why God ever created _________ (your least favorite season) Wouldn’t we all be better off without all the __________? (snow, freezing rain, heat, humidity, rain, etc.)

But God said that He created every season for a purpose. So, yes! Even ______ (your least favorite season) has its purpose. Not only do seasons have their purpose, but times of our lives have a purpose too. That means that there will be times when we will laugh, dance, keep, love others, be loved, and have peace. There will also be times when we will cry, mourn and grieve, give up, fix something that is broken, and have to deal with war.

Maybe you’re in a fun season of life right now. You are happy and your family is great and your friends just traded silly bands with you and you are doing well in school and you had cinnamon rolls for breakfast! (What could be better?)

But maybe you’re in a sad season of life right now. Maybe someone you love has died recently. Maybe you are trying hard in school and your grades aren’t getting better. Maybe your parents are fighting a lot and you think you may have to move to some place new. Maybe your friends haven’t really been friends.

What I want you to know today is that seasons will change. Bad times and good times will come and go. You will change. Your friends and family members will change. Your home, school, or church may even change. And your hair, that will probably change too!

But you have to know that God will never change. If you have a relationship with Him, He will never leave you. He will always be there to help you through. God says that He has made everything beautiful in its time. That means that He can take even the worst seasons of life and turn them into something more beautiful than we could ever have imagined. Our God is incredible!

Let’s pray: Dear Lord, we know that you are always with us no matter what season or time of our life. In your Bible you promise us you will never leave us alone. Thank you for your promises and your reminders that you are always with us. Amen.

Seasons in Life by Cindy Wyatt

To everything in life there is a season with every phase a purpose and reason

When one season ends a new one will begin gaining wisdom from where we have been

A season to press forward to what lies ahead

leaving the past behind and by Jesus being led

A season to labor in the harvest field and a time to rest while in comes the yield

A season to weep and a time to rejoice

a time to be silent and a time to lift up our voice

A season to meditate on God's love and His word a time to tell the gospel to others as you have heard

A season to be healthy, robust, and strong

a time of weariness and pain and for Heaven long

A season to abound and a time to suffer need all the while ploughing to sow the gospel seed

A season to be active and a time to be still

all things according to God's perfect time and will

A season to be born and a time to die

when we fly away and go to our home on high

Ecclesiastes 3:1

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Scriptures About the Harvest

Matthew 13:30-39 (ESV)

30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

The Mustard Seed and the Leaven

31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

Prophecy and Parables

34 All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:

“I will open my mouth in parables;

I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”

The Parable of the Weeds Explained

36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” 37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

In Memoriam

Royden “Chapy” Chapman- Age 87 October 12, 1931 to September 26, 2019

Resident of Clarks Mills/Hollis, Maine

In Memoriam

John A. Larry- Age 76 June 4, 1943 to September 25, 2019

Hollis, Maine

Royden “Chapy” age 87 passed away suddenly at home Thursday morning September 26, 2019.

Chapy was born on October 12, 1931 in Freeport, Maine.

He married Louise M. Cochran on October 27, 1951.

Chapy was employed by Health Tex Corporation for 33 years before embarking on an early retirement in 1986. This became a turning point for him to begin his love for carpentry and creative woodworking full time and provide not only his grandchildren with hours of play, but now his great grandchildren with wonderful gifts to still be enjoyed after all these years!

Chapy attended South Gorham Baptist Church since he was a child, and all through his years, he spent many hours in dedication and service through his library work, audio visual, as well as repair and carpentry as need without being solicited. He truly gave of himself through his service. In later years both he and Louise have attended a local parish here at Bar Mills Community Church. Chapy's favorite pastimes, however, were hanging with his grandchildren, playing games, teasing, or just watching them grow up.

Chapy is survived by his loving wife Louise of 68 years, a son Michael and his wife Catherine of Hollis Center, Maine, a daughter Dianna Chapman Johnston and her husband Dana Johnston of Laconia, NH. His four grandchildren; Nicole Chapman, Maine; Joshua Johnston, R.I.; Caleb Johnston, C.T; Samuel Johnston, N.Y; and 5 great children. He was preceded in death by his brother Mason C. Chapman, Jr.,1988, his parents Mason Chandler 1976, and his mother Abbie Bragdon Chapman 1994.

John A. Larry, age 76, passed away suddenly in Portland surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2019. He was born on June 4, 1943, a son of Robert W. and Priscilla (Alden), Larry and was a 1964 graduate of Bonny Eagle High School. In 1969, John married his wife Kathleen (Verrill) Larry of Sebago Lake, where they resided for many years. He served in the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserves. Over the years he was employed by Sherwin Williams, Emery-Waterhouse Co., Tim's True Value, and Cook's Hardware. John enjoyed woodworking, jig-saw puzzles, and working around his family home on the Saco River in Hollis. He and his wife Kathy liked to travel with friends to Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and cruising on the Mississippi River. A highlight of their travels was a 6-week tour of the United States, traveling from Maine to California. He also loved to visit New Orleans and Mississippi to visit friends. He was an active volunteer at the Bar Mills Community Church where he helped prepare community lunches and dinners. He is predeceased by his parents. John is survived by his loving wife Kathy of Hollis, daughter Julie Larry of Biddeford, brothers Robert Larry of Biddeford, and Peter Larry (Elaine) of South Carolina, and several nieces and a nephew. If you’re anything like me you can’t possibly believe Labor Day has come and

gone that the warm summer days have changed into the crisp cool air of

autumn. To me, Labor Day is the end of summer and the beginning of fall. The

sunsets from our deck are beautiful, but the sun is setting earlier each day and

the evenings will be getting longer and longer. That means less time outdoors

and more time to work on projects for the Christmas Marketplace.

Because Thanksgiving is so late this year the Christmas Marketplace will be

Friday, December 6th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday, December 7th

from 8:30am – 2:00 pm. Friday has been very busy and we will try to do a

better job at our checkout. We don’t plan to run out of anything this year (we

made more pickles) so if you are not able come until Saturday morning you

won’t miss a thing.

We have been working since January making things, we hope you will like. We

try to include something for everyone – family, friends, children, dogs, cats,

and birds.

There will not be a brunch or lunch this year, but be sure to visit the “to-go”

bakery and deli where you will find delicious sweets and meats prepared for

you to take home and enjoy.

We look forward to visiting with you and renewing old acquaintances!

Gigi does such a great job turning the Church sanctuary into a beautiful country

Christmas Marketplace and we will endeavor to keep up our reputation of “the

best Christmas fair we go to”.

Check our church web page at barmillscommunitychurch.org or find us on

Facebook.

We only accept checks and cash.

With a grant from

The Narragansett Number One Foundation

Bar Mills Community Church on 13 Hermit Thrush Drive in Buxton

will once again sponsor The Christmas Tree Festival.

We are hoping that you and family or your business or organization would be interested in decorating a tree. In the past we have had many different themes. Here are a few… angels, baby booties, sports, in memory of, flowers, birds, recycling items, the list goes on and on. Start thinking now to come up with something special.

With your help we will be able to bring the joy of Christmas to our community.

If you plan to put up a tree please contact Mimi at 929 – 4445 for more details.

There will be evening entertainment during the two weeks before Christmas so check out the church website barmillscommunitychurch.org and Facebook pages for the schedule.

We hope that you will join us as we celebrate this joyous season!

“500 Years of Combined Life Experience!”

Unspent Youth is a 7-member Folk Revival ensemble. The players first met at Yarmouth’s 317 Main Acoustic Music Center in 2016, bonding over a shared passion for the music of Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Kingston Trio, Bob Dylan, and other voices of the folk revival era that were part of the soundtrack of the 1960’s. These folkies have more in common than just their record collections. All seven members are now in their 60s and 70s and are retired from successful careers. The name Unspent Youth speaks to their own coming-of-age stories. These seniors spent their younger years working to finish college and grad school, raising families and building careers. They say they are now loving the chance to explore more fully the music which has always moved through their lives. “I love that I’m 70 years old and actually getting better at something!” said Falmouth native Jim Atherton, with a wry and youthful grin. The ensemble includes Jeff White, guitarist and retired attorney; Chip Foye, guitarist and former banking executive; Jim Shaffer, guitarist and retired media executive; Bob Bergesch, banjo player and retired banker; and Dick Merrick, guitarist and retired psychologist. Jim Atherton, who retired from a career in government service, plays bass. The ensemble, most of whom are largely self-taught, is currently working with 317 Main Teaching Artist Mitch Reed, who acts as a coach and mentor to shore up their musical skills and find their footing as a performance ensemble. On stage, the members of Unspent Youth have a warm and friendly presence as they take turns singing lead and finding harmonies. And unlike some of their contemporaries who may not like to talk about their age, they celebrate it. “Our age is part of our brand,” says Jim Shaffer with a smile. “Unspent Youth is a great example of what’s possible at any age,” said Chris Moore, 317 Main’s Director of Music Education. “Come join us!” Not quite 55 yet? We won’t tell if you won’t. www.317main.org
