As promised, here is the secondhalf of what I refer to as the “holypilgrimage across NC for the best‘cue” list. Yeah, us NorthCarolinians really take our porkseriously, folks.
I took the list featured on the NCBBQ Society’s website and addeda couple of other restaurants thatpretty much make up the CulinaryDream Drive, well, at least for meanyway.
A lot of the featured eateriesbegan with humble roots, folkswho just make the best BBQ andbefore they knew it, they werefeeding the entire community. Suchsuccess stories start in someone’sbackyard or barn.
I highly encourage everyonewho travels NC to try and stop atone or more of these greatrestaurants for a true down Southgastro experience beyond compare. And we promise we won’t laugh

Never Forgetting Our Veterans
Though all of us here at PPP&Bmade a decision to not delve intothe murky arenas of anythingpotentially touching controversial, just sticking with our mission of atool connecting all those passionateabout old, moldy and recycledthings, we all agreed that we couldand should voice our stance on howour nation’s veterans and currentlyserving military are treated and inan add-insult-to-injury manner.
Many of us come from militaryfamilies, some of us with longancestoral lineages going back tothe American Revolutionary War.This very publication is based outof North Carolina, one of theNation’s largest concentration ofmilitary hardware and assets.

Archaeological Findings are Important to our HistorySANFORD, NC
The best-preserved boulders arehandsomely shaped to this day, considering they were chiseledback when the Civil War thun-dered.
But such survivors are gettingharder to find at the Endor IronFurnace, hidden in the woods inLee County, an hour’s drive fromRaleigh. Only the base of the fur-nace is visible, and most of thestonework is badly chipped, cracked or crumbled.
A year ago the furnace – whichmelted ore for the pig iron used tomanufacture munitions and rail-way wheels to aid the Confeder-ate cause – resembled a Mayanruin disintegrating in the woods.
Last year, as restoration effortsstarted, more than 600 fallen andloose boulders were removed, la-beled, cataloged and mapped with
How Pros View DiggersArchaeology is romantic, it is
grubby and tedious too. Like allscholarship archaeology seeksinformation. Archaeologists un-cover material remains, datethem and try to understand thepast in which they existed a littlebetter. Artifacts, per se, havevalue for archaeology only ifthey are located in their properplace, the site where they wentto rest. This is remarkably dif-ferent from what "point hunt-
ers," "pot hunters," and metaldetectorists do; they usually hunt ar-tifacts for the sake of collecting ar-tifacts or to gather items with mar-ket value. That is why archaeolo-gists tend to fear the collectors whocare little or nothing at all about theinformation value of their col-lectibles. This explains their pru-dent secrecy about the location ofone or another site.
For as sure as the Sun rises inthe east, when collectors learn of anancient site within days it will bechurned as though hogs rootedthrough it.
