What is Pilot Health Tech NYC?

• NYCEDC program matches early-stage healthcare technology companies ('innovators') with key NYC healthcare service organizations or individuals ('hosts')

• Provides a total of $1M in funding to pilot projects to take place in NYC

• Facilitates pilot projects that address defined needs of the healthcare industry and test technologies in a healthcare setting for 4 – 9 months

Host Eligibility• The 'host' may be a healthcare organization,

foundation, employer, or other entity with a strong presence in NYC (e.g. large employer, disease foundation, hospitals, physician clinics, payers, pharma, universities, nursing associations, etc.) and must meet the following eligibility criteria:

– Serving no fewer than 150 patients (if a provider) in the NYC metropolitan area

– Employer organizations must employ at least 250 people

– Ability to allocate time and resources to plan and implement the pilot project

– Allocate one business-minded champion to shepherd project

Innovator Eligibility

• The 'innovator' must have a readily available tech-based product focused on improving healthcare that can be tested in the 'host' setting and meet the following criteria: – Demonstration of financial stability, managerial

capacity, and scalability – Maximum number of 50 employees (with some

exceptions) – Less than $10M in venture capital funding

raised (with some exceptions) – Should have a primary place of business in NYC

(>50% employees)

Innovator: Not in NYC?

If the 'innovator' company does not have a primary place of business in NYC, the 'innovator' company must demonstrate how it plans on establishing its primary place of business* in NYC if selected as a winner.

* > 50% employees work in NYC

Matchmaking Sessions

• Only selected ‘innovators’ will be invited to matchmaking sessions (March 11 - 12, 3 – 6pm)

• 15 minute conversations between ‘host’ and ‘innovator’– Innovators - this is your chance to pitch to the big

guys!

• Continue conversations after matchmaking sessions

• Submit a joint application by May 23rd

Evaluation Criteria

• Applications will be evaluated by an expert judging panel using five key metrics and weights listed below: – Pilot proposal and design (25%)– Potential for Impact on NYC (25%)– 'Innovator' company's product potential

(15%)– Potential for health impact (15%)– Team experience and strength of match

(10%)– Pilot budget and scale (10%)

Prizes & Perks

• $1,000,000 in total funding• Winners will receive no more than 50% of the

cost of the pilot, the rest should be in-kind donation of services

• Host/Innovator can freely decide how to split funding

• Winners also receive the following: – In-kind donation of services or resources from

'Hosts'– Pilot planning and implementation support from the

organizers – Participation and promotion in major health events

and conferences

Pilot 2013 vs 2014?

• Welcome consumer wellness companies!

• Diverse hosts (not just providers, but also employers, foundations, retailers, etc.)

• Funding both large and small pilots (pilots will not just be $100,000 each but may be on a smaller scale)
