The Photographer of the June, SGJP returns to intro-duce one of the budding photographers in Singa-pore, Miss Irene. Irene has been involved in photog-raphy since she started her first few art cards in the year of 2010 where she was featured in some news-paper editorials as well as magazine. Not only was she featured in the public media, but her works can be seen in MRT Stations as well as some local exhibi-tions in Singapore.
She is currently running a photographer academy called TPASG (The Photogra-phy Academy Singapore) where you can join some of the exciting photo walks she and her team organized regularly. You can also sign up for some of the in-teresting photography workshops from the TPASG and pick up valuable skills such as shooting children in a party, or even picking up tips on creative seeing through your camera lens.
SGJP did an exclusive interview with Irene and asking her some tips for the pho-tographers in Singapore on how to continue shooting with passion.
SGJP: What gear are you using to shoot these days?Irene: Canon 5D MK iii, 11-16mm Tokina, 50mm f1.4 Canon, 70-200mm f2.8L Canon, Tripod Manfrotto 725B, Filter NDx400, Flash 580exii Canon, Camera Bag (a lousy bag that is not branded, gotta change soon)
SGJP: Which is your favourite lens?Irene: 50mm f1.4mm , it’s good for everything, versatile, One lens wonder.
SGJP: When you go on a trip, what do you bring with you?Irene: 5D MK iii, 11-16mm Tokina, 50mm f1.4 Canon.
SGJP: Among the gadgets you own, is there something you wish you hadn’t bought?Irene: Same reason as why I like my 50mm f1.4 but probably need something more versatile. One narrow, and one wide lens is good for all. In terms of my own style of usage and weigh.

SGJP: In the field what do you usually set your camera to?Irene: Depends on situation, I use manual control every time I hold my DSLR. As long as all settings compen-sate and give me the effect I want to get out of the Photos, it’s all good. However, knowing what’s the priority in the stuff I frame in my photos is important too especially for Commercial shoots that will explains about the different settings I used.
SGJP: What kind of tools do you use for post processing?Irene: All the time, Adobe Lightroom. For retouching purpose, Adobe Photoshop. I don’t prefer to edit too much, I only edit what Camera can’t see from the real image that I saw. Which also means, for example if the Sunset sky is actually more vibrant than my initial manual settings on my camera then I’ve to bring the colours back on Light room. However this is only for situation when I can’t get the colors on the actual shoot itself, it may be because I need to balance the rest of the saturation in the photo or the exposure itself without doing HDR.

SGJP: How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?Irene: I’m always looking around for Inspiration, little details in Daily life inspires me. And through talking and sharing I learnt furthermore too.
SGJP: Among your works, which are your favorite?Irene: There’s no exact one or two, when time past different works are more likeable and more unlikable to me. So it all depends on the current style i’m having now, and probably preference too.

SGJP: What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?Irene: Colors. I started shooting Photos with the so called “Right Colors Combination” in my photos with-out knowing in the first place. One day, my illustrator friend came up to me and mentioned it to about Color Theories which I’ve never knew however he men-tioned that I did apply it in my pictures. I thought if I were to know it way back, I could have apply it even better consciously. Well, that’s parts and parcel of my learning journey.
SGJP: Any advice you want to give to the young photographers out there?Irene: Don’t be pampered by your equipment, be pampered by your imaginations.

Mirror Lake, Jiuzhaigou China.It is named Mirror Lake (Jing Hai) due to the perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains that can be seen in the still surface of the water in the morning. Curved BlockIt is not easy to find a concave curved block with long corridors on every floor. I am lucky to lived near one which I took the opportunity to use its long corridors as leading lines for the shot. Beautiful Brussels Grand-Place at dawnIf you have been to Brussels (capital of Belgium), Grand-Place is a must visiting place. We were there Apr'15. Weather was wet. During day time, the Grand-Place was full of tourist, can't have a clear shot. Fortunately, our apartment was just near by and therefore, decided to venture again at dawn. La Grand-Place in Brussels is a remarkably homogeneous body of public and private build-ings, dating mainly from the late 17th century. The architecture provides a vivid illustration of the level of social and cultural life of the period in this impor-tant political and commercial centre. A Dog's LifeOnce, I brought my dslr along while I brought my children down to the neighbourhood rec-reation area to play. I took the opportunity to shoot a neighbour's dog with the owner's per-mission. The shot was exposed to prevent clipping in the skies as I wanted the cotton bud clouds to be the backdrop. Such a deci-sion meant under-exposing the dog, espe-cially there isn't a reflector or flash at hand.
