PLANNING FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHS

Page 2: Planning for my photographs

TIMES I want to take my photos over a time period of about three

days, these extra days will allow more preparation and can be used in the case of bad weather that postpones an outdoor shoot. With a female model, more preparation would be needed in terms of hair and makeup setups than say if I were to use a male model. In this instance I would need to set aside an extra hour or so before the shoot to prepare my model’s appearance.

The shoot itself will need to be carefully planned and the photos will need to be taken with accordance to my plans. Therefore, I will have three shoots over three days each of up to about an hour and a half of shooting or rearranging props and sets in accordance to how the photo actually looks when taken.

PEOPLE ORGANISATION In terms of the people working with me on my shoot

there won’t be many. Other than my model and myself I may only need one or two extras to help. This may be true for hair and makeup, as someone who doesn’t wear makeup or style my hair all that often I’m not familiar with how to do it to a magazine shoot standard, therefore finding someone whom has knowledge in the area will be useful.

I will also have to maintain good communication between myself and my model, just in the off chance when the day of the shoot arrives she happens to be ill or away.

I would want to have a backup model just in case my original model is unavailable on the day. This is unlikely but still possible so it is best to be prepared just in case.

PROP ORGANISATION I want my magazine to be simplistic, so I don’t want

to rely too heavily on props in comparison to my model. If I am to use a prop it would only be one maybe two items that don’t take up all that much space. Musical icons such as instruments or microphones relating to my genre will perhaps be sufficient.

Being specific, I would like to use a pair of earphones. This presides over the option to use headphones because headphones are larger and more obtrusive to a photo whereas earphones are more discreet and are used more widely than expensive pairs of headphones.

COSTUME ORGANISATION A colourful costume is in order. A pop magazine

wouldn’t incorporate a lot of black or bleak clothes however nor would it be considered normal to use bright clothes more befitting to a clown than to a music icon. Therefore soft, warm colours like pastels or plaid is a good choice.

I will use a few sets of clothes for the shoots so it can give a variety of outfits. This is important because many readers look to music icons as fashion icons also, so will be influenced by what my model will be wearing should it be sold in stores as actual magazines are.

LOCATION PLAN I don’t want my location to distract from

my model and my article, therefore if I was to use a location it would be something simple like a field. However, instead I want to use a sort of green screen to make my background one block colour that either contrasts or corresponds to my colour scheme.
