Throughout the summer, the children at Hayden Childcare Center embark on the adventures of Summer Camp! These camps have weekly themes that help the young engage in creative learning events! Students are discovering fun and dancing to the truth! Beginning with a journey around the world, our four summer camp themes also include Bible Camp, Science Camp, and Music, Dance, and Art Camp. Students always begin the day praising the Lord during “Jesus Time” and continue with a hands-on activity related to the camp theme. There is splashing and fun on “Water-day-Wednesday’s” along with exercise during our Kid Fit program on Thursday’s. Our Shepherd Cottage residents have made summer camp even more special with their spontaneous and enjoyable visits. On August 19th, we all had great fun as we looked “up” for our kite flying event!

On July 10, residents of Good Shepherd Cottage went “out to the ball game” at Dodger Stadium to see the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres. Thanks to generous benefactors, the residents enjoyed field-level seats in the shade to “root, root, root” for the home team” as the Dodgers triumphed over the Padres with a 3-1 victory. From life-long Dodgers fans to those who were experiencing their first game, a good time was had by all.

“Repose, leisure, peace, belong among the elements of happiness. If we have not escaped from harried rush, from mad pursuit, from unrest, from the necessity of care, we are not happy. And what of contemplation? Its very premise is freedom from the fetters of workaday busyness. Moreover, it itself actualizes this freedom by virtue of being intuition.

Against the exclusiveness of the paradigm of work as activity, first of all, there is leisure as “non-activity” — an inner absence of preoccupation, a calm, an ability to let things go, to be quiet. Leisure is a form of that stillness that is the necessary preparation for accepting reality; only the person who is still can hear, and whoever is not still, cannot hear. Leisure is the disposition of receptive understanding, of contemplative beholding, and immersion — in the real.”

Memorialize Your Intentions

Mother Luisita: Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of her birth 1866-20162016 marks the 150th Anniversary of birth of Mother Maria Luisa Josefa of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the foundress of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. The life of Mother Maria Luisa Josefa of the Most Blessed Sacrament is no ordinary story. It is a story filled with daring adventure, the kind of adventure one encounters when one dares to love God above all things and to place one’s life completely in His hands. It is a story where trust in God and obedience to His manifest designs bursts forth into great sanctity, providing a model of holiness in the single, married, widowed and religious state. Throughout this year’s celebration of her birth, we will be sharing various stories of her beautiful life and the witness she gave to love of God. She was a woman of hope and prayer and she left many words for us to ponder: “Your prayer should be continual by uplifting your soul to God. May His love be the driving force urging you on in everything you do.”

Mother Luisita, pray for us!
