This fun-filled event features a day at camp with your fellow TRIO Talent Search stu-

dents! The day will be filled with camp activities such as a ropes course, outdoor

games, orienteering, and exploration of the great outdoors. A hot dog roast with

s’mores is part of the camp experience to remember. Come with another TRIO Talent

indoor part of the chimpanzee exhibit! Have dinner before you arrive. Evening snack

and morning breakfast provided. $5.00 deposit due with application. Open until all

spots are filled.

High School TRIO Summer Volunteer Opportunities

These volunteer opportunities offer a great way for 9th-12th graders to become involved in the community and learn leadership skills. For upcoming seniors, it’s good to have volunteer experience to put on college applications. Bus passes are available for students who require them.

Cook Arts Center – Camp Assistant Volunteer

Dates: between June 26th and August 3rd: Volunteer Camp Assistants will work a minimum of 10 hours a week from 12-5 pm, two days a week. There is a mandatory orientation at the Cook Arts Center on June 20th from 5:30 pm - 7 pm.

The Cook Arts Center provides a variety of programs dedicated to enrich children’s and adults’ appreciation of the arts. They are able to build skills, relationships, self esteem and a community. Camp Assistants will help students in their art classes, such as theater, dance and visual arts. Deadline for sign up is May 5th.

Grand Rapids Children’s Museum – Junior Camp Counselor

June 19th week (Mad Scientist), July 19th week (Dinosaurs), and August 7th week (Gadgets and Gizmos)

Become a Junior Camp Counselor at the Children’s Museum and help create an environment to play, and advocate the value of play through a variety of different exhibits. Each week has its own theme. There is Mad Scientist week, Dinosaurs week, and Gadgets and Gizmos week. Deadline for sign up is May 5th.

The Grand Rapids Children Museum does require a complete background check.

Feed America – Volunteer Warehouse Food Sorters

Date: June 27th from 11:15 am – 3:30pm

This organization’s purpose is to ensure safe food is available to the West Michigan area. The food comes from farmers, manufactures, distributors and retailers that have safe food they can’t sell because of misprints on labels and order errors. Students will have the opportunity to help repackage food and sort it for food banks.

Gilda’s Club Clean Up – Volunteer Outdoor Gardening Crew

Date: July 18 from 12pm-3:30pm

Gilda’s Club provides emotional support to families that are going through a cancer journey. There are different volunteer opportunities for childcare, providing or assisting in meals, and gardening and yard work. TRIO ETS students will take part in a group project cleaning up the club yard, doing gardening and weeding.

Kids Food Basket – Volunteer Food Sorter

Dates: June 29th, 12:30-2:15pm and/or July 13th, 11:30am–1:30pm

Kids’ Food Basket is a non-profit organization that combats childhood hunger in the West Michigan area. By part-nering with individuals, families, businesses, schools, teachers and other non-profit organizations, they help ensure that lunch is not the last meal of the day for nearly 7,500 kids. This summer there will be two opportunities for stu-dents to bag ingredients for suppers. If you volunteer twice, you receive a free Kids Food Basket T-Shirt!
