We have been busy in Nursery…
The children have enjoyed all things monsters over the last few weeks after reading ‘Bedtime
for Monsters’. We found monster footprints in class so we went on a monster hunt and then
the children drew their own version of the monster from the story. The children made their
own monster dens using big boxes and blankets. In the make and do area the children helped
to make a large scale monster by using boxes, tape, glue and paper and then they all helped to
paint it! On the playdough table we have been making our own little monsters and adding fea-
tures with various resources. Outside the children have been using their balance and hand eye
coordination to successfully climb across the ladders and planks we set up during PE lessons.
We have been busy in Reception…
We enjoyed reading the ‘Bedtime for Monsters’ book. We started by discovering that a monster
was loose in the school! So we went on a monster hunt and found lots of little monsters hidden
around the back playground. We learnt about the settings from the story (the places) and put
these into order. We also made our own monsters and made little homes for them out of recycled
materials! Outside, we worked together to build monster dens and chose lots of different
materials to use by ourselves. We have also learnt the story off by heart by using a story map.
We can use actions and expressions to make our retelling really exciting. In maths we’ve been
learning about addition and subtraction. We’ve been using concrete resources like cubes and
counters. We’ve even had a go at writing equations!
