Midlake return with their new studio album “Antiphon”. An antiphon is a call-and-response style of singing, from Gregorian chants to sea shanties. In the case of Denton, Texas’ favorite sons Midlake, it’s the perfect title for a bold response to a new phase in the band’s illustrious career, with a re-jigged line-up and a newly honed sound as rich and symphonic as it is dynamic and kaleidoscopic.

Anyone who knows Midlake’s preceding albums will recognize some constituent parts of Antiphon: the quirky psychedelia of 2004 debut Bamnan and Slivercork, the ‘70s soft-rock strains of breakthrough album The Trials Of Van Occupanther and the Brit-folk infusion of 2010’s The Courage Of Others. But their fourth album is another fascinating departure, but also a logical progression. The sound is simultaneously familiar and changed.

This growth is down to the ambition and ability of Pulido (vocals, guitars, keyboards) Paul Alexander (bass, keyboards, bassoon, guitars, backing vocals), McKenzie Smith (drums, percussion) and Eric Nichelson (guitars, autoharp), plus Jesse Chandler (keyboards, piano, flute, backing vocals) and Joey McClellan (guitars, backing vocals) from Midlake’s last live incarnation. But it’s also down to the absence of Midlake’s former principal singer Tim Smith, who left the band in November 2012.

In the fall-out over the spoils of what had been recorded, the remaining members decided to start afresh, and wrote and recorded Antiphon in six harmonious months – bar ‘Vale’, which had been demoed without Smith during one of the sessions. With its ravishing, rippling textures symptomatic of Antiphon’s scale, ‘Vale’ showed how far they’d already come. The remaining nine tracks – the album is free-flowing in feel, concise in structure – confirm it’s very much Midlake, but uncannily rebooted, and relaxed.

Antiphon has a similarly paradoxical nature – from stress and upset, something positive and creative has emerged. Midlake is dead, long live Midlake.

On November 5, 2013, The Cooper Brothers will release their brand new CD called SOUTHBOUND. The album was recorded at the Tragically Hip's studio in Bath, Ontario and is produced by Colin Cripps - producer of such artists as Kathleen Edwards and Jim

Cuddy and guitarist with Blue Rodeo. Southbound was made at a leisurely pace over the course of a year, with the relaxed, smalltown atmosphere at The Bathouse suiting the brothers working methods and laid back temperaments well. Says Brian Cooper: "While someone was laying down an overdub in the studio, one of us could usually be found in the kitchen rustling up supper, and somebody else would be on a beer/wine run. I

can't think of a better way to record!" The current live band line-up of Ed Bimm, Rob Holtz, Jeff Rogers, Darwin Demers and John Steel all play and sing on every track.

Other friends who dropped by include Gary Craig (Ann Murray/Tom Cochrane/Jann Arden) Peter Fredette (Kim Mitchell) and guitar whiz Carey Blackwell.

The CD features eleven new Richard Cooper penned tracks including the first single, "Southbound", a tongue-in-cheek look at our love/hate relationship with Canadian winters. Southbound is also the natural title for the album because several of the songs are about our neighbours in the U.S. and points beyond. The Last Time I Saw Georgia, chronicles the brothers stint on Capricorn Records in the

hey days of Southern rock. Havana Nights was written after Dick Cooper spent two weeks in the historic Cuban capital on a movie project.

Five Point Five, sung by the talented Jeff Rogers, references earthquakes in both Mexico City and L.A. Other notable songs on the CD are Love's Been a Stranger a duet featuring Brian and Juno Award winner, Kellylee Evans as well as Maybe This is the Night and Bridges both songs featuring the soaring harmonies the band is noted for. In the end, the brothers are

Patrick Lehman is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. He has performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival's Big Event - a Paul Simon Tribute Concert, sharing the stage with Elvis Costello, Daniel Lanois and Colin James. The show, attended by 150,000 people, was subsequently broadcast on several television networks.

Patrick launched his first full-length album the 'Pat Lehman Band' in 2008. The album received notable airplay across the US, Canada and France and prompted Patrick to tour, including performances in the International FestiBlues, Tremblant Rhythm Festival, FunkFest and the CTV Television 'Telethon of the Stars'. Patrick's second disc ‘The Electric Soul Kitchen Vol.1’ EP, was release on Justin Time Records in stores and digitally nationwide in March 2011. Lehman wrote, arranged and produced each track including the hit single "Prove Myself to You" which was co-produced with Bill Swazlowski (April Wine, Marjo). Within just two weeks of its release, it had entered the top-ten urban/soul chart in Chart Attack magazine and several University radio charts.

Recently he returned to the legendary Studio Victor in Montreal to record his third studio album. One of only four original RCA Victor studios, many artists over the years such as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley have recorded in Studio A where Patrick brought his album to life. Fusing the sounds of his Electric Soul and Rock & Roll influences, Patrick wrote, produced and arranged 'Electric Soul Kitchen Vol.2’
