About the platform

The platform is a highly configurable, extensible and easy-to-use cloud application platform, built upon a powerful, robust and open API, and using enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure. With a wide (and expanding) range of services - from vessel tracking and SSAS management to maritime risk intelligence - all available on one convenient platform, Pole Star is enabling its customers to connect with their ships in a whole new way.

Designed from the ground up to utilise the latest generation technologies to deliver an intuitive, flexible and personalised experience and make its users’ jobs easier, save them time and help them achieve their goals, the plat- form allows customers to select and combine services, and access them across devices.

Because the platform is open and modular, you can add or remove services to create a bespoke solution that reflects the unique requirements of your business. This means that you only pay for what you need, not what you don’t.

2 System requirements The platform is a powerful web-based application that provides an effective way of automatically tracking and man- aging vessels in real time. No software installation is required, you simply need a compatible web browser and an internet connection.

On the left of the screen is a menu with tabs listing the available services*:

5 Maps With maps you / your customer can see the situation of all your / their ships on a map, zoom in for more detail, select a map style, view a ship's latest position report, see a ship's trail, weather forecast layers, zones and much more.

5.1 Map types

The platform offers four map types including C-Map charts to help you /your customer make decisions based on the right geographic data. See "Change map type" on page 94.

5.3 Display view

Display view allows you to view the map full-screen by hiding the main menu at the left hand side of the screen. This feature is useful when displaying the map of your fleet during a presentation or in a public space.

In Normal view, the main menu is displayed on the left of the screen.

In Display view, the map is displayed without the menu.

6 Ships This section explains the icons and the information available relating to ships.

6.1 Ship icons

6.2 Ship profiles

The platform provides functionality, dependent on user level and privileges, that enables the change of the icon and its colour.

6.3 Ship information

The platform provides detailed ship information and photo for each vessel in your / your customer's fleet automatically (source: Seaweb). See "View ship particulars" on page 87.

6.4 Ship trail

6.5 Blended track

With our unique and patent pending Blended Track technology, you / your customer can now register more than one transceiver per ship (including AIS transceivers), to give you / your customer a more accurate and more regular position track.

7 Zones A zone is a geographical area overlaid on the map.

The platform enables you to display key industry zones (including ECAs, EEZs, high-risk areas, environmental and regulatory zones) on the map or create your own custom zones (rectangle, circular or polygon) for a near real- time picture of your fleet in relation to nearby and current threats, regional risks and regulatory requirements.

Latitude & Longitude cursor This toggle feature allows you / your customer to view the latitude and longitude of any position on the globe.

Bathymetry This toggle feature displays a bathymetry overlay on the map.

Note: Bathymetry shows topographical features and depth of the ocean floor. The platform uses an open source bathymetry data set.

Cyclones Shows cyclones on the map, including the cyc- lone's historic (grey trail) and projected route (red trail). Cyclone data is provided by Jeppesen.

Meteorological layers The platform provides graphical weather over- lays, including:

The time interval selector allows you / your cus- tomer to choose how far ahead the forecast dis- played will be (e.g. 12 hours, 7 days).

9 Weather With weather layers, you can display forecast meteorological conditions (up to 7 day forecast) on the interactive map, or review your planned route against forecast weather conditions. Includes a wide range of weather and environmental layers. Our high quality weather data is updated every 6 hours and provided by Tidetech.

The Pole Star Platform weather overlays can be displayed individually or layered over other weather parameters, and are turned on or off by clicking the tick box. Weather layers included are:

10 Transceivers A transceiver is the tracking hardware installed aboard a ship.

Because the Pole Star Platform supports various types of transceivers and allows you to see them all in a single account, you / your customer can choose the best tracking solution for each ship in your / their account, for com- plete visibility and enhanced decision making.

With the Pole Star Platform you / your customer can:

11 Position reports The transceivers associated with your / your customer's account are programmed to transmit position reports at a default regular reporting interval (see table below). However, in the platform you can also poll for an immediate position report, change the reporting interval and get position report notifications by email or SMS.

12 Fleets This feature allows you to organise the ships in your / your customer's account into groups. This may be useful if you have different kinds or a large numbers of ships. Fleets can range from one ship to as many as necessary. Fleets are managed from the Administration menu.

13 Reports The advanced reporting engine with queries and filters allows you to download historical data in CSV format for analysis, sharing with colleagues or evidentiary purposes.

14 Notifications Notifications alert you to key events like SSAS alerts and tests, new position reports, overdue position reports and zone events. Notifications can be sent to any recipient you wish (simply create a new Contact in the platform) and can be sent via a number of different methods such as; email and for SSAS alerts / test alerts, SMS, Fax and Telex).

14.1 Notification types

With notifications, you / your customer can be notified when:

A specified zone event occurs (e.g. a ship enters / exits a zone)

A ship sends a Risk & Security alert

A ship sends a Risk & Security test alert

A ship sends a Risk & Security warning

A ship sends a battery report (hardware dependent). If there is a warning from a DSAS Mk2 it will appear under Alerts. When the warning ceases, it will be moved to the Archive1. It will be possible to receive a notification about a battery and create a report in Reports about battery warnings

A transceiver fails to send a position report on schedule (overdue position)

14.2 Notification formats

Notifications can be sent in four formats:

What happens during a test alert?

1. SSAS Management > Alerts: The ship will appear in the list of test alerts in the collapsible column with an orange icon.

3. Pop-up: A pop-up information box appears with the message 'Press the alert button onboard the ship to begin the test.'

19.4 Test profiles

All ships with suitable SSAS equipment can be tested for either Flag or Internal tests.

A Flag test is a mandatory test required by the flag country of the ship which is carried out at specified intervals. The regulating authority must be included in the notification profile for the ship / transceiver to receive the notification.

An Internal test is for internal company use and can be run at any time. See "Start a test" on page 272.

19.5 Location of closest ship(s)

In the event of an alert, you can quickly identify the ship (or ships) in your fleet nearest to the one involved in the incident. See "View closest ships" on page 263.

19.6 Archive

Alerts, tests and warnings are automatically moved to the archive once completed.

Test alerts that have been cancelled are also listed in the archive. By default they are listed by most recent, but can also be viewed by ship name. See View archived alert or "View an archived alert or test" on page 281

To create a new account for a customer:

Therefore, if the ship has made 1,000 position reports over a period shorter than 3 months only the last 1,000 will be shown. Note: Each arrowhead represents a position report moving your cursor to hover over one results in a pop- up with the details of the position report that was received.

Display view allows you to toggle between Norman view, in which the main menu, which includes Tracking, Risk & Security, MaRisk, Notification, Speed variance, Reports and Archive1 are displayed on the left of the screen. In Dis- play view, only the map is displayed. Previously selected information (scale, ships, fleets, zones, meteorological data) is shown on the map. You may want to use the Display view for a shared screen to provide an overview of your ship(s) activity.

2. Enter the coordinates in the boxes.

3. Click on the plus button to the right of the boxes to add more coordinates.

The platform provides users, with appropriate user privileges, the ability to create a profile for an individual ship, all the ships in a fleet or, all the ships in an account / sub-account.

To create a new profile:

3. The resulting form enables the selection of the icon shape and colour for your ship(s) and provides an example:

You can then choose whether to apply this to all the ships in your account by entering the account name, or a series of ships. If you apply a profile to all the ships in an account and subsequently apply a different profile to some of the ships in that account the profile applied to the specific ships will override the profile applied to the account.

29 Manage notifications Notifications can be sent to contacts when a specific event occurs, such as an alert, a test alert, a security warning or when a ship enters or exists a specified zone. Before creating a notification, the contact's details (email address or SMS number) must be entered in Contacts.

A zone can be a predefined Industry zone, or you can define your own zone. See how to Create a zone.

29.3 Non receipt of notifications

If, after creating a notification an intended recipient has not received the email or sms there are a couple of steps to take before contacting Pole Star:

1. Check that the contact has been created correctly

a. Select Administration>Contacts and ensure that the email address / telephone number has been correctly entered.

2. Check the notification has been created correctly.

a. Select the Notifications tab

b. Select the desirednotification

c. Ensure that the contact has been correctly entered in the notification.

29.4 Edit notification

1. The Pole Star Platform enables you to edit any previously saved notification.

Note: On an Apple computer or device, once the report has been downloaded, use MS Excel's Text to column feature to separate the data into columns, based on the character ',' (the comma).

33 Manage Speed Variance Speed Variance enables you to monitor and supervise the speed your ship(s) are travelling at during the voyage (s).

If the ship(s) deviate from the proscribed speed you will be sent an alarm notifying you of the deviation.

There are two Vessel settings:

33.1 Assign Vessel Speed Variance Settings

To activate Speed Variance Alarms you must first select the ship(s) to which you want to monitor and supervise.

1. Select Vessel Settings

2. Select the ship you wish to monitor

5. Once you have assigned the planned speed and whether the ship(s) are to be supervised click the Apply button:

33.2 Assign Alarm Speed Variance Settings.

Once you have assigned a Planned Speed for a ship and set the Supervision toggle to on in the Vessel Set- tings tab, you will need to assigned the amount threshold of deviation from that speed that will trigger an alarm.

There are five types of alarm which can be set individually, that is only one need be applied to your ship. Or, all five alarms can be assigned to an individual ship.

Major Alarm 1 (average speed deviation) This Alarm is triggered when the average speed of the ship, determined by the total speed divided by the number of reports over the specified time frame exceeds the deviation thresholds set.

Major Alarm 2 (accelerated speed deviation) This Alarm is triggered when all reported speeds of the ship, are outside the deviation threshold for the duration of the specified time.

Major Alarm 3 (immediate speed deviation) This Alarm is triggered immediately when a ship's speed has deviated outside the thresholds defined.

Warning (no planned speed) This warning alarm is triggered when a ship is being supervised but has not had a planned speed assigned.

1. Select Major Alarm 1:

In the above example if the speed of the ship deviates by 3 kn or more from the Planned Speed over the period of 90 minutes an alarm will be triggered.

2. To adjust the threshold slide the button left or right, or use the arrow buttons at either end of the scale, the minimum is 0 kn and the maximum is 25 kn and the scale is set to 0.5 kn increments.

3. To adjust the time threshold, over which the average speed will be calculated, slide the button left or right to the desired time, the minimum is 10 minutes and the maximum is 180 minutes and the scale is set to 10 minutes increments.

4. Once you have set the desired speed and time activate the alarm by selecting the toggle button.

5. If you want the alarm to Auto-clear then toggle the button on. Auto clear will clear the alarm, acknow- ledgement not required, when the alarm conditions no longer apply. Example: If the average speed deviates by 3 kn over a 90 minute period an alarm will be triggered. This alarm will require acknowledgement and clearance by the user. However, if the Auto-clear toggle is set to on as soon as the ship is below the 3 kn deviation threshold the alarm will be automatically cleared and will not require acknowledgement.

6. Once you have assigned the desired values to the alarm click Apply.

2. To adjust the threshold slide the button left or right, or use the arrow buttons at either end of the scale, the minimum is 0 kn and the maximum is 25 kn and the scale is set to 0.5 kn increments.

3. To adjust the time threshold, over which the speed is recorded, slide the button left or right to the desired time, the minimum is 10 minutes and the maximum is 180 minutes and the scale is set to 10 minutes incre- ments.

From its intuitive and responsive HTML5 interface, to its event-driven notifications by email, SMS and Telex, the platform has been designed to give you access to your fleet, wherever you are. The platform automatically optimizes the display for different screen sizes and orientations. And you can access information about alerts and tests from mobile phones as well as desktop and laptop computers.

2. Enter your user name and password and press the return key or click on Login.

You can download the SSAS Management app from either the Apple Store or Google Play.

We recommend that all required personnel agree a date and time for installation and testing.

We recommend you allow sufficient time to test each alert button (allow approximately one hour per but- ton).

We recommend you keep in telephone contact with the SSO or Master while the hardware is being installed so that you can be kept fully informed of the situation onboard.

Overview of the procedure

1. Ask the Master/SSO/engineer to press a panic button onboard the vessel. The DSAS Mk2 will automatically transmit a Security Level: 2->Initial Ship Security Alert.

2. Navigate to the SSAS Management module. The ship should appear in the Alerts list with a red Alert icon.

3. Select the ship.

4. Click Reset alert.

Note: If the transceiver is not reset within 30 minutes, it will transmit a Security Level: 3->Ship Security Alert. This alert will repeat in 30 minute cycles.

5. Wait for the alert mode to change to Alert Completed (up to 50 minutes).

6. Click Done.

Step 6: Test alert buttons

1. Navigate to the SSAS Management module.

2. Ask the Master/SSO/engineer to press a panic button onboard the vessel

3. The alert will be sent.

4. Check that the alert has been received You will know that the alert has been received when

b. In the Current Ship Alerts list the words 'Waiting for Alert' will change to indicate the date / time of the last test alert received.

c. The ship icon on the map will change to orange.

5. Click Reset Alert.

7. Repeat this procedure to test the second alert button.

Agree a time/date: Prior to testing, liaise with the Master or Ship Security Officer (SSO) aboard the ves- sel to agree a date and time for configuration and testing. Remember to allow sufficient time to test each alert activation point individually.

Email configuration instructions: Email configuration instructions to the SSO or the engineer who will configure the unit aboard the vessel.

Stay in touch: You may find it useful to keep in telephone contact with the SSO or Master while the trans- ceiver is being configured so you are fully apprised of the situation aboard.

Test the configuration: This is a critical part of the configuration phase. It is designed to

a. Test each onboard alert activation point individually to ensure the transceiver is properly con- figured and fully operational. This exercise must, therefore, be carried out twice – once for each button.

b. Take you through exactly what happens in a real security alert, but in a controlled environment.

d. When transmission is stopped, the message “INF: SSAS UNIT activation has been cancelled” appears (if a DTE is connected to the device), and on the FELCOM 16 only, the POWER lamp on the communication unit flashes for approximately 30 seconds.

What if I need to cancel the test?

What if the alert does not reset?

Please check the following: 1

For Inmarsat-C SSASs with latching alert activation points, please ask the Master/SSO to check that the alert activation point has been successfully unlatched.

Check with the Master/SSO that the TEST activation point has not been pressed inadvertently. If it has, unlatch it.

Check with the MAST/SSO that no other alert activation point has been pressed inadvertently. If it has, unlatch it.

For Furuno Felcom 15/16 SSASs, check that the alert procedure has been followed precisely. If in doubt, please try again.

What if the notification is not received?

If an alert or test notification is not received, please conduct the following checks:

Step 1: Check in the user interface if the test or alert was received.

1. Select the Alertstab.

2. All ships in Alert or Test will be displayed in the Current Ship Alerts list.

3. What does it say beneath ship's name?

a. Waiting for Alert No alert has been received. Either the alert activation point has not been pressed or the ship is unable to communicate with a satellite. Check with the Master/CSO if the button has been pressed and if not, instruct them to press it. If the button has definitely been pressed, please see ........

b. A date and time This indicates that the test or alert has been successfully received from the ship. Proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Check if the notification was delivered successfully.

1. Select the Alertstab.

2. All ships in Alert or Test will be displayed in the Current Ship Alerts list.

3. Select the ship.

1Latching alert buttons typically feature on Inmarsat-C SSASs. When the alert button is activated it 'latches' and has to be manually unlatched in order to reset the alert or test.

5. Select the notification event that was not received.

6. Select the relevant recipient's address or phone number.

7. What does theStatus field indicate?

a. Error This means that our system was unable to deliver the notification to this recipient due to an error (see Notification for further details, if available). Check that the recipient's email address/- phonenumber has been entered correctly.

b. Sent This means that our system successfully delivered the notification to the receiving mail server. Please ask the recipient to add [email protected] to their safe senders list and check their junk mail folder. They may need to speak to their IT department.

Step 3: Check the archive for completed tests or alerts.

1. Select the Archive1 tab.

2. All alerts or tests are displayed in the relevant list.

Once an alert / test is completed it is no longer visible in the SSAS Management tab.

What if the button is not pressed?

If an alert activation point is not pressed onboard the vessel, the unit will remain in Test mode2 (orange) for the next 4 hours, before reverting to normal (green).

To change the reporting rate of a ship in alert or test alert mode:

1. Click SSAS Management.

2. Select the relevant ship.

b. Allow no more than three seconds to elapse before pushing the button again.

c. If more than three seconds elapses, repeat the procedure.

d. When transmission is stopped, the message “INF: SSAS UNIT activation has been cancelled” appears (if a DTE is connected to the device), and on the FELCOM 16 only, the POWER lamp on the communication unit flashes for approximately 30 seconds.

34.4.5 .5 Troubleshoot a test

How will I know when the test alert is received?

You will know that the alert has been received because:

a. Designated recipients will receive test alert notifications by email/sms.

b. In the Current Ship Alerts list the words 'Waiting for Alert' will change to indicate the date/time of the last test alert received.

What if the button is not pressed?

If an alert activation point is not pressed onboard the vessel, the unit will remain in Test mode1 (orange) for the next 4 hours, before reverting to normal (green).

What if the notification is not received?

If an alert or test notification is not received, please conduct the following checks:

Step 1: Check in the user interface if the test or alert was received.

1. Select the Alertstab.

2. All ships in Alert or Test will be displayed in the Current Ship Alerts list.

3. What does it say beneath ship's name?

a. Waiting for Alert No alert has been received. Either the alert activation point has not been pressed or the ship is unable to communicate with a satellite. Check with the Master/CSO if the button has been pressed and if not, instruct them to press it. If the button has definitely been pressed, please see ........

b. A date and time This indicates that the test or alert has been successfully received from the ship. Proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Check if the notification was delivered successfully.

1. Select the Alertstab.

2. All ships in Alert or Test will be displayed in the Current Ship Alerts list.

3. Select the ship.

4. Select Notifications.

5. Select the notification event that was not received.

6. Select the relevant recipient's address or phone number.

7. What does theStatus field indicate?

a. Error This means that our system was unable to deliver the notification to this recipient due to an error (see Notification for further details, if available). Check that the recipient's email address/- phonenumber has been entered correctly.

1Test mode is used when performing an SSAS test. It indicates that the alerts received shoud be understood to be 'tests' and not genuine alerts.

b. Sent This means that our system successfully delivered the notification to the receiving mail server. Please ask the recipient to add [email protected] to their safe senders list and check their junk mail folder. They may need to speak to their IT department.

Step 3: Check the archive for completed tests or alerts.

1. Select the Archive1 tab.

2. All alerts or tests are displayed in the relevant list.

Once an alert / test is completed it is no longer visible in the SSAS Management2 tab.

What if the alert does not reset?

DSAS or DSAS Mk2:

In the unlikely event that a unit does not reset within 40 minutes, a *** Test *** Security Level: 3->Ship Security Alert is received and the alert mode changes to orange Test Alert. Click on RESET ALERT once again to reset the unit. Inmarsat-C

Please check the following:

For Inmarsat-C SSASs with latching alert activation points, please ask the Master/SSO to check that the alert activation point has been successfully unlatched.

Check with the Master/SSO that the TEST activation point has not been pressed inadvertently. If it has, unlatch it.

Check with the MAST/SSO that no other alert activation point has been pressed inadvertently. If it has, unlatch it.

For Furuno Felcom 15/16 SSASs, check that the alert procedure has been followed precisely. If in doubt, please try again.

34.4.6 .6 Cancel a test

1. Click SSAS Management. The list displayed in the collapsible column shows all ships involved in an alert, warning or test alert.

To verify delivery of alert or test notifications:

The Archive1 allows you to view completed alerts and test alerts. Once an alert or test alert has been completed, it is added to the archive automatically. Archive is located on the main menu on the left of the screen.

35 Risk Insight This chapter describes how to use the Risk Insight module.

Risk Insight provides you with near real-time updates of incidents such as piracy, terrorism, hijacking, insur- gency and other maritime crime around the world.

The information is updated hourly, and can be displayed on a map for complete situational awareness of where your ships are in relation to security threats and potential trouble.

You can also get an overview of current and long term risks using the time interval selector tool, along with the incident feed, which provides a simple, chronological list of all incidents within a specified time period.

36 My ship is not reporting its position

36.1 Is the vessel in port?

If the vessel is in port, it could be experiencing problems with interference or obstruction. When the vessel is in port, there is an increased probability of reporting problems as there is likely to be a high concentration of inter- ference sources. High power VHF, UHF and microwave equipment can all cause interference problems. Buildings, gantries and other large structures can also cause problems by blocking the line of sight to the satellite. Once the vessel puts out to sea, you should expect to receive a position report within 24 hours

If, the vessel is at sea, proceed to "Identify non-reporting ships using tracking" on the next page.

If, after following the guidance in these pages, the transceiver is still not reporting follow the guidance provided here: "Erroring transceiver" on page 292

36.2 Recommended best practice

The best way to stay aware of any non-reporting vessels in your customers account is to set-up an overdue pos- ition report notification for your account or for all registered vessels.

Note: "Position" information is provided by the last received report from a transceiver If the ship has more than one transceiver registered you will need to identify which transceiver(s) are not reporting.

37 Identify non-reporting ships using tracking When Tracking is selected from the left hand menu, all the ships registered to your account will be displayed. Each ship record provides a number of details (if they have been recorded when registering the ship within the Pole Star Platform):

38 Identify non-reporting transceiver Once a ship has been identified as non-reporting it is possible to detect whether the ship has more than one trans- ceiver.

It is possible to identify which transceiver(s) is / are not reporting.

1. Select the non-reporting ship in the tracking tab.

2. Expand the position information to show the last reported position and time of the last received report.

3. Expand the details for each transceiver to show the details of the position of the last report.

4. The non-reporting transceiver can be identified as the"last reported time" will be longer than the "Report- ing rate".

39 Erroring transceiver On occasion the registered transceiver can display a status of "Erroring", which indicates that there are com- munication issues between the transceiver and the Pole Star Platform this could be due to a number of known issues such as; Unknown Mobile or, the registered Mobile has been logged out of the satellite network.

If the ship you wish to track is showing a transceiver with erroring status, please contact Pole Star Customer Sup- port on +44(0)20 7313 7403 who will identify the exact reason for the erroring status and will help resolve the issue.

Note: Before attempting to resolve the issue on board the ship the following questions need to be answered.

40 Non-reporting SATC devices If you identify a non-reporting Inmarsat C (SATC) device try the following before contacting Pole Star Customer Support on +44 (0)207 313 7400 who will help resolve the issue.

Before you register a vessel you should ensure that the SATC transceiver is switched on and logged into the Inmarsat network.

When an SATC SSAS transceiver is registered in your account, it goes through a commissioning process. During this process the system is attempting to start tracking the transceiver. The minimum commissioning period is 24 hours and around 98% of transceivers will send a position report within this period, particularly if the vessel is at sea.

If a vessel is in port, the commissioning process could be hampered by external sources as there is likely to be a high concentration of interference sources. High power VHF, UHF and microwave equipment can all cause inter- ference problems. Buildings, gantries and other large structures can also cause problems in port by blocking the line of sight to the satellite

If the vessel is at sea or once it leaves port, ask the Master onboard vessel to reboot the unit : log the transceiver out, switch it off, wait 5 minutes, switch it back on and log back in.

This forces the transceiver to resynchronise with the Inmarsat network and a position report is expected within 24 hours.

If the unit is still non-reporting, please contact Pole Star Customer Support.

41 Non-reporting DSAS Mk1 / Mk2 If you identify a non-reporting DSAS MK1 or MK2 device, check the following before contacting Pole Star Customer Support on +44(0)20 7313 7403 who will help resolve the issue.

1. Does the ship have clear line of sight?

2. Is the installation correct, with no obstructions around the unit?

3. Were any battery voltage / power warnings received prior to the unit stopped reporting?

4. Did the unit respond to a poll command from the UI?

If the DSAS is non-reporting:

1. Is the ship in port?

2. Does the ship have clear line of sight?

3. When was reporting lost?

4. Were any warnings received?

5. Has this issued been raised previously?

6. Did the unit respond to a poll command?

If there are no alerts being generated when the button is pressed:

1. Is the unit currently reporting? If the device is not reporting alert generation will not be possible. If the device is reporting but not generating alerts contact Pole Star Customer Support on +44 (0)207 313 7400 who will help resolve the issue.

1. What is the ISN (Serial number) and other relevant ship details?

2. What is the Nature of the issue?

3. Is the unit connected to a 24V DC power supply constantly?

4. Is the ship in port or at sea?

5. Is the unit installed correctly, clear of any obstacles, with a clear view of the horizon?

6. When was reporting lost?

7. Where any warnings received?

8. Did / does the unit respond to a Poll command? (See "Poll for position report" on page 151).

9. What advice or steps have been followed prior to this call?

If the IDP-690 is non-reporting:

1. Is the ship in port?

2. Does the ship have clear line of sight?

3. When was reporting lost?

4. Has this issued been raised previously?

5. Did the unit respond to a poll command?

6. Has the power to the terminal been checked and confirmed as stable?

Note: If the vessel is currently in port, there is likely to be a high concentration of interference sources, and could be the reason why the DSAS unit stopped reporting. If the vessel is at sea, a DSAS checklist will have to be completed and submitted via email to sup- [email protected] to Customer Support for further investigation.

NOTE: The indicator can be disabled (off state) or enabled via script control. The indicator may therefore not come on when power is applied. Contact your authorised dealer for details of any script that may have been programmed into the SAT-201.

43 Non-reporting Satamatics

43.1 INTERPRETING THE INDICATOR

A single status indicator is provided on the SAT-201. The indicator goes through 4 states every 2 seconds gen- erating the patterns in the table below

Normally, from power on, the indicator will go from flashing red (D+ OFF) through to flashing green as the SAT- 201 first acquires the Bulletin Board and subsequently the Traffic Channel. From power on to demodulating the Traffic Channel may take up to 7 minutes.

If the Satamatics is non-reporting:

1. Check that the terminal has been powered on

2. Does the terminal have a clear sky view?

3. Check all the cable connections to and from the terminal, including the soldering

4. Check the power environment, it should not be too noisy

5. Note the LED sequence, as indicated in the above table

6. Power cycle the terminal

a. Disconnect 24v power supply from control unit

b. Remove the battery from the terminal

c. Disconnect the antenna lead from the terminal

d. Wait at least 5 minutes

e. Re-connect the antenna lead to the terminal, ensuring it is firmly tightened

f. Re-connect the 24v power supply to the control unit

g. Check the LED sequence to confirm whether reset was successful

h. Re-connect the battery to the terminal

If the terminal is still not reporting, note the LED sequence and advise Pole Star Customer Support on +44(0)20 7313 7403 who will help resolve the issue.

Test mode is used when performing an SSAS test. It indicates that the alerts received shoud be understood to be 'tests' and not genuine alerts.

Test profiles

Test profiles define who receives the SSAS test notifications. There are two test profiles: Internal and Flag. The Flag test profile is used when a test overseen by your flag needs to be per- formed. The Internal test profile is used when performing an ordinary test.

Test resetting

Test resetting mode indicates that Reset Alert has been pressed in the SSAS Management mobile or web application. If the resent command is successful, then the status will shortly change to Normal. If the reset is unsuccessful, the status will revert to Test Alert.
