A little over 4 years ago just before Christmas I was diagnosed with Breast cancer the big C…I told four of my friends I had worked with when we had lunch together a couple of days later, Rebecca said to me my Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog had puppies 2 days ago and you need to have one to get you through this something else to focus on? Junior Handlers And Their Best Mates

Hi, as I told you last month we have 20 raffleprizesatourObedienceTrial

and Agility Trial. Each year Obedience is in July, Agility October, as well as one for our Christmas Dinner. I was hoping for a rush of items to come my way mmm… no it didn’t happen but time yet if you can help with any small items. Whether an unwanted

present or a dog toy, food, wine, anything. If you can’t afford that, even unwanted baskets or boxes or nice bags, tissue paper andIcanmakeupprizes.IfyoucanhelpIam at the club usually on a Thursday night or give it to the table Manager Wally or Leanne or Bill and I will get it.

Thank You Ella Sweeney

vet I was Devastated.

I had the surgery and about a week later ended up back in hospital with golden staff infection but the day I was discharged we picked up our 2nd Elsa (we paid for this one) and she has just beenamazingshespentthe6monthsIhadChemotherapy on my day bed by my side with us timing when we thought she needed to go to the toilet and whoever was handy just picked her up plonked her out on the grass and said wee wee and she did, it is still handy at dog trials when just before she goes in the ring it still works as if a dog does go to the toilet they lose 10 points before they start.

ElsawasbornonDecember17th2006shegotherCCDTitlethedayshewas11monthsold,5trialslater she got her Novice Title, and her CDX Title on25/11/2008shewasnoteven2yearsold,Billstarted training her for the UD Ring where she got her first pass in that ring in 30/1/2010 and her UD Title on the 12 March 2010 the next Title is for O-CH Which is Obedience Champion but in all the other classes where you need to score 3 passes over 170 out of 200 except CCD which has been changedto85outof100,foryourO-Chyouneedfive more passes in the UD Ring but they must all beover185tocounttowardsthatTitleshehas15passesinthatringwhichisaveryhardringto

get through and most of her passes have got her a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.place, but only 4 of them were overthemagicnumberof185…thatisuntilthe15thMaywhenshewontheUDRingshewasinon190 points and I am so proud of both my Bill and Elsa who is now an Obedience Champion the only Ridgeback in Australia at this point that has that Title!! The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club are as proud of her as Bill and I as they are big dogs and couch potatoes but she knows when her mum needs a big cuddle or sloppy kiss. And her dad is one damn good trainer.

Top 10 Human Medications Poisonous To Pets

TIPS FROM PET POISON HELP LINE TO HELP KEEP YOUR PET SAFE!Belowisalistofthetop10humanmedicationsmostfrequentlyingestedbypets,alongwithsometipsfromtheveterinariansatPetPoisonHelplineonhowtopreventpetpoisoningfromhumanmedications?

1. NSAIDS (E.G. ADVIL, ALEVE AND MOTRIN) Topping our Top 10 list are common household medications called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory

(NSAIDs), which include common names such as ibuprofen (e.g. Advil and some types of Motrin) and naproxen (e.g. Aleve). While these medications are safe for people, even one or two pills can cause serious harm to a pet. Dogs, cats, birds and other small mammals (ferrets. gerbils and hamsters) may develop serious stomach and intestinal ulcers as well as kidney failure.

2. ACETAMINOPHEN (E.G. TYLENOL) When it comes to pain medications, acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) is certainly popular. Even

though this drug is very safe, even for children, this is not true for pets-especially cats. One ,.g,riu, strength tablet of acetaminophen may cause damage to a cat’s red blood cells,

limiting their utility to carry oxygen. In dogs, acetaminophen leads to liver failure and, in large doses, red blood cell damage.

3. ANTIDEPRESSANTS (E.G. EFFEXOR, CYMBALT A, PROZAC, LEXAPRO) While these antidepressant drugs are occasionally used in pets, overdoses can lead to

seriousneurologicalproblemssuchassedation, incoordination, tremorsandseizures.Someantidepressants also have a stimulant effect leading to a dangerously elevated heart rate, bloodpressureinbodytemperature.Pets, especiallycats, seemtoenjoythetasteofEffexorandoften eat the entire pill. Unfortunately, just one pill can cause serious poisoning.

4. ADD/ ADHD MEDICATIONS (E.G. CONCERTA, ADDERALL, RITALIN) Medications used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

contain potent stimulants such as amphetamines and methylphenidate. Even minimal ingestions ofthesemedicationsbypetscancauselife-threateningtremors,seizures,elevatedbodytemperatures and heart problems.

5. BENZODIAZEPINES AND SLEEP AIDS (E.G. XANAX, KLONOPIN, AMBIEN, LUNESTA) These medications are designed to reduce anxiety and help people sleep better. However,

in pets, they may have the opposite effect. About half of the dogs who ingest sleep aids become agilated, instead of sedate. In addition, these drugs may cause severe lethargy, in-in coordination (including walking “drunk”), and slowed breathing in pets. In cats, some forms of Benzodiazepinescancauseliverfailurewheningested.

6. BIRTH CONTROL (E.G. ESTROGEN, ESTRADIOL, PROGESTERONE) Birth control pills often come in packages that dogs find irresistible. Thankfully, small ingestions

of these medications typically do not cause trouble. However, large ingestions of estrogen and estradiol can cause bone marrow suppression, particularly in birds. Additionally, female pets that are intact (not spayed), are at an increased risk of side effects from estrogen poisoning.

7. ACE INHIBITORS (E.G. ZESTIL, ALTACE) Angiotensin-convertingenzyme(or“ACE”)inhibitorsarecommonlyusedtotreathighblood

pressure in people and, occasionally, pets. Though overdoses can cause low blood pressure, dizzinessandweakness, thiscategoryofmedicationistypicallyquitesafe.Petsingestingsmallamounts of this medication can potentially be monitored at home, unless they have kidney failure or heart disease. All heart medications should be kept out of reach of pets.

8. BETA-BLOCKERS (E.G. TENORMIN, TOPROL, COREG) Beta-blockers are also used to treat high blood pressure but, unlike the ACE inhibitor, small

ingestions of these drugs may cause serious poisoning in pets. Overdoses can cause life-threatening decreases in blood pressure and a very slow heart rate.

9. THYROID HORMONES (E.G. ARMOUR DESICCATED THYROID, SYNTHROID) Pets-especiallydogs-getunderactivethyroidstoo.Interestingly,thedoseofthyroidhormone

needed to treat dogs is much higher than a person’s dose. Therefore, if dogs accidentally get into thyroid hormones at home, it rarely results in problems. However, large acute overdoses in cats and dogs can cause muscle tremors, nervousness, panting, araptdhearttate and aggression.

10. CHOLESTEROL LOWERING AGENTS (E.G. LIPITOR, ZOCOR, CRESTOR) These popular medications, often called “statins,” are commonly used in the United States. While

pets do not typically get high cholesterol, they may still get into the pill bottle. Thankfully, most “statin” ingestions only cause mild vomiting or diarrhea. Serious side effects from these drugs come with long-term use, not one-time ingestions. Always keep medications safely out of reach and never administer a medication to a pet without first consulting your veterinarian. The following arcsometipsfromDr.JustineLeeandDr.AhnaBrutlagatPetPoisonHelplinetohelppreventpetsfrom getting into over-the-counter or prescription medication: never leave loose pills in a plastic Ziploc@bag- the bags are too easy to chew into. Make sure visiting house guests do the same, keeping their medications high up or out of reach. If you place your medication in a weekly pill container, make sure to store the container in a cabinet out of reach of your pets Unfortunately, if they get a hold of it, some pets might consider the pill container a plastic chew toy. Never store yourmedicationsnearyourpet’smedications-PetPoisonHelplinefrequentlyreceivescallsfrom concerned pet owners who inadvertently give their own medication to their pet. Hang your purseup.Inquisitivepetswillexplorethecontentsofyourbagandsimplyplacingyourpurseupand out of reach can help to avoid exposure to any potentially dangerous medication(s).It is also important to note that while a medication may be safe for children, it may not be safe for animals.Petsmetabolizemedicationsverydifferentlyfrompeople.Evenseeminglybenignover-the counter or herbal medications may cause serious poisoning in pets.

The Irish Farmer’s answer to vermin problems. This breed was bred and developed for over two hundred years

is a good ratter and an excellent farm dog. They were firstrecognizedbytheIrishKennelClubinthelate1930’s.This dog is the oldest native terrier in Ireland and is proof that the Irish breeding talent does not begin and end with racehorses.

They were originally used for guarding, droving, herding, hunting and for controlling vermin populations; today they are used mainly as companions.

The non shedding coat will need to be groomed on a regular basis to keep it clean, shiny and tangle free. Grooming needs will be greater between the ages of 7 to 24 months when the adult coat comes in. This dog has a very distinctive coat. It is best described as being the warm colour of ripening wheat.

These dogs have strong personalities and a sense of fun. As long as they are included in everything you do they will prove trustworthy companions. They will keep you on your toes by occasionally misbehaving, but are generally high-spirited in the nicest possible way.

They will keep you on your toes by occasionally misbehaving, but are generally high-spirited in the nicest possible way.

ingestions of these drugs may cause serious poisoning in pets.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club are as proud of her as Bill and I as they are big dogs and couch potatoes but she knows when her mum needs a big cuddle or sloppy kiss. And her dad is one damn good trainer.

A little over 4 years ago just before Christmas I was diagnosed with Breast cancer the

big C…I told four of my friends I had worked with when we had lunch together a couple of days later, Rebecca said to me my Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog had puppies 2 days ago and you need to have one to get you through this something else to focus on? I answered number one I can’t afford one of your puppies and number two we have 2 dogs so Bill would not let me have one! She said well I am giving you one so ask him anyway? Well Bill didn’t disappoint me when he said no as we already had two dogs Sally and Marla and that was enough and I tried to get ready for the biggest fight of my life.

A few weeks later I had surgery and as I have a very supportive family and friends tried to move on with my life a week later my specialist told me

I had to go back into hospital for more surgery as there was still cancer cells in my breast…ok I can do this again? Then two days before I had the surgery my doctor contacted me by phone to tell me I would need 2 operations as they had found cancer cells in my Lymph Nodes and they would all have to be removed down my right side, as I hung up the phone I realised the ramifications of this and burst into tears, Bill hugged me and said you can have the puppy! And Elsa came into our lives! Actually two Elsa’s came into our lives the first little one didn’t make it although we fought hard to save her with the help of Ann & Julia who spent many hours at our house drip feeding her while Bill had a sleep so he could sit up feeding her during the night while I slept we eventually lost her and although I was so grateful and still am to this day to the people who helped including the
