June 2012, the Boxer club of NSW held the 13th Boxer Nationals. This event is where all registered Boxer breeders can meet and show
off their best dogs and a few of us compete in the performance side- this includes obedience, agility and jumping. Every 2 years a boxer club on the East coast of Australia is selected to hold this event. This year the judge came from Brazil to judge the “show” dogs. Breeders had their best dogs out to parade themselves, over 200 boxers competing for “best in show”.
The performance side in Boxers is not as popular as in many other breeds and a total of 7 competitors competed in the Excellent Jumping. My Boxers Eisha and Lena entered. Eisha came 3rd in Obedience, the crowd clapping at her doing obedience was too much for her to not show off to. Away from the crowd and she came 1st in Novice Agility and 1st in Excellent Obedience. This was Lena’s first entry into a trial and she was totally overwhelmed by it with so many dogs to see and all the people looking at her. Lena was officially the naughtiest Boxer in the trial. Eisha was awarded the best performance boxer at the trial. It was all fun.

One of them screamed “It’s WALES you friggin’ IDIOT!”
So, I immediately apologized and said “Sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?”

large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some orange, and lime trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinnydipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, ‘we’re not coming out until you leave!’
The old man frowned, ‘I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked...’ Holding the bucket up he said, ‘I’m here to feed the alligator.’

Rally ORally O is a relitively new dog sport for Australia. It is a course of numbered stations that areobediencebased,itismeanttobefunandquick,youcantalkto,encourageandpat your dog around the course, some people sing to their dog.
There are now some clubs which are holding Rally O trials for those who are interested incompeting.LynForwoodandVickiFinnattendedaweekendlastOctobertolearnallthe signs and rules.
Some of our members have already successfully competed in Rally O trials. Any one who is interested in Rally O is welcome to come along before training on Thursday night from about 7pm onwards where Lyn will have a course set up, alternatively see Lyn in the break and have a go.

October 21st is SDDTC INC Agility Trial held atLomatiaParkandisusuallyagreatdayboth for the Competitors and dogs as well as on lookers. It is fast so there is generally a lot of laughter and excitement. If you can help on the day see Trevor or Leanne. We have 20 raffle prizes drawn on the day so try and get to it if you can.

MEMBERS’ GUESSING COMPETITION No. 23
It seems almost certain that this breed did not originally inhabit Newfoundland. However the island was
peopled by a race of peaceful Indians and their wolf type dogs during the 15th century. These dogs were used for hunting, fetching and carrying. When the white settlers started to occupy the island they hunted down the Indians and their dogs, only the most useful and obedient dogs were permitted to live. The surviving dogs more than likely bred with other dogs that were introduced to the island by traders from around the world. This meant that different varieties of dogs were mated; these dogs included hunters, water dogs and mastiffs. The resulting offspring were left to fend for themselves, the outcome being that only the largest and strongest survived. Over the years a dog resembling this breed of today started to emerge. By the early 18thcenturywordoftheseextraordinarydogsthatcouldhaulheavyloadsandhelpfishermen had reached Europe. To begin with poor people who couldn’t afford horses to transport goods from the ports to their homes purchased these dogs. Shortly after their introductiontoEuropelargebreedingkennelsappearedandsomegoodqualitydogswereproduced.Thebreedclubwasformedin1886andisoneoftheoldestinBritain.Not long after the Club was formed a breed standard was created and has remained largely unchanged since.
This breed is best described as being a gentle giant. They are large and heavy in both bone and coat. As puppies they look like a cuddly teddy bear, however this stage does notlastlongastheygrowveryquickly.Theycanbeblack,brownorwhiteandblack(landseer) in colour.
These dogs are very docile, gentle and make great family pets. They have a natural lifesaving instinct, which makes them unsuitable to go swimming with, as they would continually try to drag you out of the water. Generally they have a superb temperament and will get on well with both people and other animals. They are very outgoing and live life to the full, said to be one of the friendliest breeds.
The young dog should have all exercise monitored while it is still growing to ensure that no damage occurs to the bones and joints. They love water, swimming being one of their favourite forms of exercise.

Checking the energy level of your dog – we start with the assumption that your dog is over eighteen months of age. You will have five choices for each answer. NEVER (which means never or almost never) SELDOM, OCCASIONALLY,
FREQUENTLY or ALWAYS. Simply tick next to the answer which bests describes your dog. Try to be as honest and accurate as possible.1. Is your dog playful, puppyish, or boisterous? NEVER, SELDOM, OCCASIONALLY, FREQUENTLY, ALWAYS
2. Is your dog active, energetic and always on the go? NEVER, SELDOM, OCCASIONALLY, FREQUENTLY, ALWAYS
3. Does your dog wake up quickly and seem ready for anything immediately? NEVER, SELDOM, OCCASIONALLY, FREQUENTLY, ALWAYS

After you have answered all of these items for your dog, you next have to determine your dog’s scores. The general scoring system is that NEVER = 1, SELDOM = 2, OCCASIONALLY = 3, FREQUENTLY = 4, ALWAYS = 1. However for questions 8, 9 and 10 the scoring is REVERSEDThe average score for this test is 34. Dogs with scores less than 27 are very low energy; scores from 27 to 34 are moderately high on energy; while scores above 41 make a dog high in energy. Springwood District Obedience Dog Trial

What a day I don’t know where to start? We had the best weather we have ever had this year at a trial just
perfect… and that kind of sums up most of the day! We all worked hard to make this trial special and I think it paid off? I didn’t see anyone not having a good time with their dogs and friends in the rings.
The rings were great thanks to all of our stewards including stewards from other clubs who are always happy to come and help. Our own members helped of course, including 2 new members Iaan and Leslie Stanley. They supplied dog kibble to go with our normal Cash and Sash prizes from Blackhawk Dog food, an all Australian made food.
We had Ron’s beautiful wife Janette taking photo’s some of which can be seen below, the rest will be on the web site page under s.d.d.t.c. Inc Obedience Trial 2012.
We had our lunch break with 30 judges and stewards and helpers sitting down to a beautiful baked dinner with sweets after yum!
As usual I had 20 raffle prizes which Maryjka Kelly made up beautifully with ribbon and we had a lot of fun and laughter as they were drawn. One of our junior handlers Tom Assar sold the raffles tickets all day and did a wonderful job he sold $193.00 on the day. Good on you Tom, you certainly deserved those M&M’s you had your eye on all day?
Immediately after, I called up each of our stewards and helpers to pick a gift from the club as we always do each year with their choice of two different boxes of biscuits or a tub of M&M’s, they were very popular.
Bill and I, as the Trial Managers, would like to thank everyone involved. Special thanks to Jan Probert from Blacktown who worked with Robyn most of the day. Janette Amann who I know is so busy with her own work at the moment but she didn’t hesitate to accept my plea to come and take photos for me all day on one of her days off work. And to each and every one of our stewards and helpers they were all great and we could not run a trial without you all so thanks again guys!
A lot of people were happy to see Dot Luker back in the trialling Ring and she got her first pass with Leah… Yes!
Leanne Brown got her 3rd pass and her Open Title with Eisha, WOW how good is that? Great work Miss Eisha!
The Sweeney dogs had a bad day, but on their behalf they didn’t like not having Mum or Dad with them as usual. John and Gail Cameron’s Boxers Mia and Rocky and Vicki Finn and her wee dog Misty made out much the same. We were all working and not in a set place as we usually would be but that’s dog trialing and we have to take the good with the bad. Better luck for us next time guys.

Dogs with scores less than 27 are very low energy; scores from 27 to 34 are moderately high on energy; while scores above 41 make a dog high in energy. MEMBERS’ GUESSING COMPETITION No. 23
It seems almost certain that this breed did not originally inhabit Newfoundland. However the island was
peopled by a race of peaceful Indians and their wolf type dogs during the 15th century. These dogs were used for hunting, fetching and carrying. When the white settlers started to occupy the island they hunted down the Indians and their dogs, only the most useful and obedient dogs were permitted to live. The surviving dogs more than likely bred with other dogs that were introduced to the island by traders from around the world. This meant that different varieties of dogs were mated; these dogs included hunters, water dogs and mastiffs. The resulting offspring were left to fend for themselves, the outcome being that only the largest and strongest survived. Over the years a dog resembling this breed of today started to emerge. By the early 18thcenturywordoftheseextraordinarydogsthatcouldhaulheavyloadsandhelpfishermen had reached Europe. To begin with poor people who couldn’t afford horses to transport goods from the ports to their homes purchased these dogs. Shortly after their introductiontoEuropelargebreedingkennelsappearedandsomegoodqualitydogswereproduced.Thebreedclubwasformedin1886andisoneoftheoldestinBritain.Not long after the Club was formed a breed standard was created and has remained largely unchanged since.
This breed is best described as being a gentle giant. They are large and heavy in both bone and coat. As puppies they look like a cuddly teddy bear, however this stage does notlastlongastheygrowveryquickly.Theycanbeblack,brownorwhiteandblack(landseer) in colour.
These dogs are very docile, gentle and make great family pets. They have a natural lifesaving instinct, which makes them unsuitable to go swimming with, as they would continually try to drag you out of the water. Generally they have a superb temperament and will get on well with both people and other animals. They are very outgoing and live life to the full, said to be one of the friendliest breeds.
The young dog should have all exercise monitored while it is still growing to ensure that no damage occurs to the bones and joints. They love water, swimming being one of their favourite forms of exercise.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinnydipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, ‘we’re not coming out until you leave!’
The old man frowned, ‘I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked...’ Holding the bucket up he said, ‘I’m here to feed the alligator.’

Rally ORally O is a relitively new dog sport for Australia. It is a course of numbered stations that areobediencebased,itismeanttobefunandquick,youcantalkto,encourageandpat your dog around the course, some people sing to their dog.
There are now some clubs which are holding Rally O trials for those who are interested incompeting.LynForwoodandVickiFinnattendedaweekendlastOctobertolearnallthe signs and rules.
Some of our members have already successfully competed in Rally O trials. Any one who is interested in Rally O is welcome to come along before training on Thursday night from about 7pm onwards where Lyn will have a course set up, alternatively see Lyn in the break and have a go.

June 2012, the Boxer club of NSW held the 13th Boxer Nationals. This event is where all registered Boxer breeders can meet and show
off their best dogs and a few of us compete in the performance side- this includes obedience, agility and jumping. Every 2 years a boxer club on the East coast of Australia is selected to hold this event. This year the judge came from Brazil to judge the “show” dogs. Breeders had their best dogs out to parade themselves, over 200 boxers competing for “best in show”.
The performance side in Boxers is not as popular as in many other breeds and a total of 7 competitors competed in the Excellent Jumping. My Boxers Eisha and Lena entered. Eisha came 3rd in Obedience, the crowd clapping at her doing obedience was too much for her to not show off to. Away from the crowd and she came 1st in Novice Agility and 1st in Excellent Obedience. This was Lena’s first entry into a trial and she was totally overwhelmed by it with so many dogs to see and all the people looking at her. Lena was officially the naughtiest Boxer in the trial. Eisha was awarded the best performance boxer at the trial. It was all fun.

That’s All I RememberI was in a pub on Saturday night. Had a few drinks…
I noticed two large women by the bar.
They both had strong accents so I asked “Hey, are you two ladies from Scotland?”
One of them screamed “It’s WALES you friggin’ IDIOT!”
So, I immediately apologized and said “Sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?”
That’s all I remember…
