CM Girl Scouts Hold Annual Mother and Daughter Dinner CENTER MORICHES—The Center Moriches Girl Scouts ' annual mother-daughter dinner was held May 24 at the Sunrise Restaurant here. Approximatel y 135 girls and their mothers attended. Mrs. Charles Waide , chairman of Nei ghborhood 5 was guest of honor. Mrs. Thomas Sinnickson, Jr., acted as master-of-ceremonies , and Mrs. Dayton Han,oi\ i \va.. chairman of the affair. Troop 6 led the pledge of Alle- giance and sing ing of "America. " Troop 13 said grace and after the dinner entertained the gathering with songs . The following members of Troop 13 received awards for fecond Class rank; Bonnie Bittner , Ju- anita Duffy, Rhona Kvaves , Pet a Walsh , Kathleen Mullano , Linda Sherrill , Linda Murray, Rosemarie Pujado , Cecilia Gil i gan and Jane Seides. Their leader , Mrs. Wil- lam Mullane , presented the badgv s Troop 90 entertained bv sing- ing "Make New Friends " and thi ' 'Chalet Song. " Their leader , Mrs. Rudar Olsen , and her assi tant Mrs. John Matteson awarded pro- ficiency badges to girls who had earned them. Five year p ins were presented to: Joyce Adams , Elvira Betz , Jeanne Foster , June Frede rick , Eileen Herrmann , Fra K"'s Jaro , Brenda Matteson , Rochelle Nooger , Reidun Olsen , Patt y Rob- inson and Doroth y Rumph. Second Class badges were earned by Bar- bara Klopotov , Glad ys Rech , Pat- ty Robinson , Poll y Trautschold and Charlotte Tydeman. June Fred- erick received her First Class badge. Troop 23 presented a puppet show prepared by six g irls who have comp leted their First Class rank. The troop sang "The Golden Sun " and "Kum Bah Yah. " Mrs. Paul Meyer , leader , presented the awards. These included proficiency badges earned in the last six months to all members ; Five Year pins to Lorraine Theisen and Ar- lene Agnetti; Second Class badges to Linda Green and Kathleen Vo- gel; Firs t Class badges to Arlene Agnetti , Monica Gilligan , Linda Malanchuk , Barbara Meyer , Vir- ginia Sands and Lorraine Theisen. The daughters of the mothers reg istered with the troop present- ed "Friendship Pins " as thanks to Mrs. Leo Redmond , assistant lead- er , and to committe- 1 women , Mrs. Mac Janis, Mrs. Michael Malan- chuk and Mrs. Mark Flaherty. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Curved Bar award to Rita Trautschold , Gail Hanford and Betsy Reiss , members of Troop 6. The Curved Bar rank is the highest attainable by Intermediate Girl Scouts. This Curved Bar p in may be worn on the senior uniforms. Mrs . Waide , Neighborhood chairman , made the presentation. Afterwa rd, the g irls participated in an impressive cere- mony at which they were gradual, ed into Senior Scouting, leaving their Intermediate leader , Mrs. Mac Janis , and being accep ted into Senior Troop 12 by Mrs. William Walsh. Troop 12 , a Mariner troop, read their log for the past Scouting year and then Linda Barker , Elaine Bernstein , Janet Hanson. Susan Johanneson , Elizabeth Koch- lin , Diane Miranda , Larrie Rima , Faith Rose , Betsy Schmidt , Susan Scott , Kathy Sinclair , Anne Sin- nickson , Carol Anne Tenke and Andrea T ydemann received their F'ive Point p ins. Girls are among more than 60 pupils of Patricia Smith School of Dance , which will stage recital in cooperation with Rotary Club of Moriches. —Advance Photo bv Gomez Rain Fails To Dampen Moriches Spring Concert CENTER MORICHES—Desp ite a heavy downpour , an audience of nearl y 200 attended the Spring concert presented by the Choral Society of the Moriches at Center Moriches High School gymnasium Friday night. Thirty-one ladies sang under the direction of Josef A. Lemmen. with Mrs. Ruth Becker at the^ piano. The ladies wore pastels and white carnation corsages. Men in the chorus also wore carnations . Mrs. Doroth y Owen , contralto soloist ori g inall y scheduled to sing "Ove r the Rainbow '' from the "Wizard of Oz " had to sing an unaccompanied lullab y instead after discovering, at the last mo- ment , that the music for her scheduled number had been mis- laid. Comprising the sopranos were : Yolande Blechner , Ragnhold Ches- ter , Carol Jurg ielewiez Harriet Vosganian , Grace Tschaorun , Ei- leen Smith , Florence L. Wiencke , Edith D. Warner , Susan Van Pop- ering, Clara Budd , Elizabeth Crow- ley, Josephine Greco , Philomena Vig liotta , Joan Danowski , Ade- laide Fitzpatrick , Barbara Cozine and Elaine K. Wilcox. Altos were Ella C. Lemmen , Kaye Marbu ry, Beatrice WiUe- more , Dorothy Owen , Eleanoi Wereley and Juanita Bell . Tenors : Edward Wirsing, Jr., Robert S. Monzeglio , Alexander Walker and Leonard S. Thoughtless town residents, who find dump ' s gate locked after 7 n-m., are believed largely responsible for condition. —Photo by Gomez By John Clark MORICHES Filthy conditions at the town dump on Yaphank- Moriches Road were brought to the attention of The Long Island Ad- vance last week by a Manorville resident. Acting on the resident' s advice , The Advance paid a visit to the area for a firs t hand look Thurs - day. Mottles , paper , furniture and other debris had apparentl y been discarded along the road outside the dump. Shredded paper and rags which had blown from the all but un- enclosed dump festooned bushes over a large area. The onl y ap- parent separation between the dump and road was a cyclone gate about 20 feet in length. John W. Ready, Jr., Brookhaven Town sanitation commissioner , in a statement last Tuesday told The Advance that it had become neces- sary to limit the hours during which the dump ' s gate was open. The area , he exp lained , was be- coming a catch-all for garbage hauled f rom all over Suffolk and as far away as Nassau County. Commissioner Ready said he hoped that residents would learn to use the dump during the al- loted hours, now 7 a. m. to 7 p. m. Anyone caught depositing garbage outside the gate will be subject to a summons , he stated. CENTER MORICHES NEWS Mrs. Alfred K. Meanwhile , those present decid- ed to look into the mechanics of setting up a community garbage district. Secretary John Ro,so will draft a letter to Brookhaven Town Supervisor August Stout , Jr , reques.ing information on es- tablishing such a district. Another item slated for possible action is the groups desire for reopening the old Center M'oriches Po ice substation , now serving as a phone booth. Members expressed concern at the number of store break-ins which have occurred in the community recently. A letter- is being forwarded to Police Com- missioner Charles Thorn. Also examined were the possi- bilities of a communit y water dis- trict and possible curtailment of issuing further permits for the opening of new gas stations in Center Moriches. Such stations would lower property values , mem- bers believe. President Joe Gratz announced that the chamber will meet on the Union Street Dock at noon , June 21 for the annual inspection of town beaches. Students are to be judged on several bases including scholar- shi p, purpose , personality, scope of interests and need- Successful applicants , names will be announced at Center Moriches High commencement ex- ercises at 8 p. m.. June 24. The Fund , composed of indivi- duals and organizations concerned with higher education for the com- munity ' s youth , numbers among its other members Mrs. Clinton Robins , secretary, Joe Gomez , treasurer , and Harry Carmer , Ray mond Smith and Mrs. Doroth y Schmidt , directors. CENTER MORICHES—Desp ite a heavy downpour , an audienceof nearly 200 attended the Spring concert presented by the ChoralSociety of the Moriches at Center Moriches High School gymnasiumFriday night.

Thirty-one ladies sang under the direction of Josef A. Lemmen.with Mrs. Ruth Becker at the^piano. The ladies wore pastels andwhite carnation corsages. Men inthe chorus also wore carnations .

MORICHES — Filthy conditionsat the town dump on Yaphank-Moriches Road were brought to theattention of The Long Island Ad-vance last week by a Manorvilleresident.

Acting on the resident's advice ,The Advance paid a visit to thearea for a firs t hand look Thurs-day.

Mottles , paper , furni ture andother debris had apparentl y beendiscarded along the road outsidethe dump.

Shredded paper and rags whichhad blown from the all but un-enclosed dump festooned bushesover a large area. The onl y ap-parent separation between thedump and road was a cyclone gateabout 20 feet in length.

John W. Ready, Jr., BrookhavenTown sanitation commissioner , ina statement last Tuesday told TheAdvance that it had become neces-sary to l imi t the hours duringwhich the dump 's gate was open.

The area , he exp lained , was be-coming a catch-all for garbagehauled f rom all over Suffolk andas far away as Nassau County.

Commissioner Ready said hehoped that residents would learnto use the dump during the al-loted hours , now 7 a. m. to 7p. m. Anyone caught depositinggarbage outside the gate will besubject to a summons , he stated.

CENTER MORICHES — Cen-ter Moriche s Chamber of Com-merce members gathered for lunchMay 24 at the Lindenmere Ho-tel and discussed several com-muni ty problems to be furtheraired at a general meeting schedul-ed for early this fall.

Meanwhile , those present decid-ed to look into the mechanics ofsetting up a community garbagedistrict. Secretary John Ro,so willdraft a letter to BrookhavenTown Supervisor August Stout ,Jr , reques.ing information on es-tablishing such a district.

Another item slated for possibleaction is the groups desire forreopening the old Center M'orichesPo ice substation , now serving asa phone booth. Members expressedconcern at the number of storebreak-ins which have occurred inthe community recently. A letter-is being forwarded to Police Com-missioner Charles Thorn.

Also examined were the possi-bili t ies of a communit y water dis-trict and possible curtailment ofissuing further permits for theopening of new gas stations inCenter Moriches. Such stationswould lower property values, mem-bers believe.

President Joe Gratz announcedthat the chamber will meet on theUnion Street Dock at noon , June21 for the annual inspection oftown beaches.
