HOW TO REACH US
Today is an interesting day in world history. It is the Ides of March. The Ides of March was made famous by William Shakespeare in his play, ‘Julius Caesar’. The Ides of March for the ancient Romans, marked the first full moon of the new year, based on the lunar calendar. It became a festive time when debts were forgiven and prayers to the deities were made for a prosperous new year. It was on the Ides of March, March 15th, that Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Roman Forum in 44 B.C. If you like history and ancient cultures, this is a fascinating date, but for we, who are Christians, the day is not as significant as is its general timing. Certainly, we find ourselves in the holy season of Lent, but there are two great feasts this week that give us a kind of pause. On the 17th, we have the Feast of St. Patrick. St. Patrick is given credit for the Catholicism that characterized so much of Irish history. Sadly, the Emerald Isle has lost much of its Catholic soul, so as you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, remember to say a prayer for the Irish and their return to the life of faith. The faith has been on the decline there for years, helped in no small part by egregious scandals of clerical abuse. On Thursday, the 19th, we have an even bigger feast, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of our Lord Jesus. In the Gospels, St. Joseph is portrayed as a strong, silent, and faithful man. He fulfilled his duty of caring for the Blessed Virgin and raising the Son of God. Therefore, he has been assigned the special task of being the patron saint of the entire Catholic Church. He is our special protector and advocate before God, the Father. For some, today may be the Ides of March, but for us, it is a special time to call on these two powerful intercessors for the protection of the faith and of the Universal Church.

It was a blessing to have so many attend the Parish
Retreat. A video of the retreat is now available on the
homepage of the parish website at www.stpiuscda.org,
and in our Weekly e-Messenger. We ask those who
were able to attend to complete the short survey
available in our Weekly e-Messenger. Your response
will help us plan future retreats. (If you do not have
online access, stop by the parish office and we will as-
sist you.)
CONFESSIONS DURING LENT: Fr. Flores will be hearing Confessions in between Sunday morning Masses (9:15am -10:15am) during Lent in addition to regularly scheduled times.
Please be aware of a text/email scam that is going around
again. The scammers are getting more creative. The text or email appears to
be from Father Flores asking for a favor and for you to reply as soon as possible. Some messages are now including photos. THIS IS NOT FROM FATHER FLORES. He will never ask for a favor in this manner. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS TEXT or EMAIL that appears to be from him! Please ignore and/or block the number and delete. If you are unsure about the validity of a message, please call the Parish Office at 208-765-5108.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM BISHOP PETER: Bishop Peter has asked parishes to follow certain guidelines in light of the
incidences of coronavirus in our region. Please note: All the faithful are encouraged to stay home from Mass if
they feel ill. (Please remember it is not a sin when you miss Mass because of illness).
Ministers of Holy Communion should always wash their hands before Mass begins. We also suggest using the hand sanitizer before and after distributing Holy Communion.
Parishioners should avoid hand-to-hand contact during the “Our Father.” We will also eliminate the Sign of Peace during this time.
Holy water has been removed from fonts. It is advised that Holy Communion be received only in the
hand, not on the tongue. If you do receive on the tongue, use the center communion lines. Father Flores and Deacon Chris will serve from the center and have special processes in place to ensure sanitization and safety.
The Precious Blood will not be distributed until further notice.
Bishop Christensen will monitor the situation and advise
parishes regarding a return to normal liturgical practices when
it is safe to do. Thank you for your cooperation.
ADORATION OF JESUS IN THE BLESSED
SACRAMENT: Weekly Adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament is each Thursday from
9am until 6pm. Sign up in the narthex for a
designated hour or simply stop by during the
day and keep Our Lord company. He longs to
see you and fill you with His Graces.
ARE YOU CALLED TO BE AN
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER
OF HOLY COMMUNION?
Extraordinary ministers of Holy
Communion (EMHC) are lay people commissioned to assist
with distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. This
ministry is an honor and privilege. As one accepts this role,
he/she has prayerfully discerned that God is asking this ser-
vice of them. EMHCs must be active, fully-initiated, practicing
Catholics, at least 18 years of age, with no impediments. If
you feel so called, please fill out the form at the liturgical min-
istries bulletin board or call the parish office, and you will be
contacted for training.

Jesus reminds us that material things, even something
as basic as water, can never satisfy us for long. When
we build our lives around material possessions we
always want more. True joy and peace only comes
when we follow Jesus; when we become more “God-
centered” and less “self-centered”.
The 2020 Idaho Catholic Appeal
The Idaho Catholic Appeal is underway. Thank you to
everyone who has made a commitment of financial and
prayerful support to the Appeal. Each and every gift is
important. Today is the Follow-up Weekend for the Appeal.
If you have not yet done so, we ask that you make your
commitment today in order to provide the resources need-
ed to continue vital diocesan programs such as seminarian
formation, lay ministry training, counseling services, and
the campus ministries at BSU, U of I and ISU. No gift is too
small and every gift is sincerely appreciated. If you have
already made your pledge, please accept our humble grati-
tude. If not, please make your commitment today here at
the church by filling out a pledge envelope located in the
pew and dropping it in the collection basket.

22nd to Coeur d'Alene to run a retreat for
high school students at the St. Thomas Parish
Center. The theme of the retreat is Strength in
Numbers - Authentic Friendship: "True friends
walk together through their weaknesses. Betrayal, gossip,
and scandal: these traits often characterize friendships
portrayed in the entertainment industry. What if our friend-
ships, were instead marked by support no matter the
circumstances? This theme explores the role of authentic
friendships and their ability to empower us to greatness."

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY! ATTENTION GRADUATING SENIORS OF POPE ST. PIUS X PARISH: The Fr. Roger La Chance Scholarship provides scholarship awards varying in amounts from $250 - $750 dollars each year. The Pope St. Pius X Council of the Knights of Columbus, base awards on written response to five ques-tions on how Christ has touched the applicants life and appli-cants response to Christ's call. Applications are now available at the Church office and from Wes Miller, Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Applications are due in the parish office or to Wes, by 5pm on Friday, May 18th.
The St. Thomas the Apostle Knights of Columbus Council will be hosting their annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Sing-a-Long at the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Center on Sunday, March 15th from 4pm - 7pm. Join the fun and enjoy their great corned beef and cabbage dinner. Lots of wonderful prizes will be raffled off! All of the proceeds go to support the Knights’ many charitable projects.
