In Memory of Nita Beard
Nita was born in 1934, married Henry Beard in 1954 and had two sets of twins!
This was just the beginning of her creative journey dedicated to family, friends and the art of making.
A keen home cook, baker, bread maker and hand knitter Nita also created beautiful needlework and
made and decorated cakes. She entered and won many prizes at country shows and eventually
became a judge.
Nita began to explore her artistic talents as a hobby with bark paintings which then led her to painting
scenes of home and community life, her favourite being landscapes.
She had some painting lessons but did not attend university.
Nita’s work has been exhibited in Adelaide, Clare, Hawker, Burra and country shows winning many
prizes and certificates.
She has paintings in Germany, America, Austria, England and New Zealand and has travelled overseas
and always visited art galleries!
Nita was a dedicated member and volunteer for the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery over many years
assisting with installations, volunteering at the desk to meet and greet visitors and on special occasions
bringing in delicious home baking for morning or afternoon teas!
