COURSE: Studio I

PROJECT DATE Fall 2015

ASSIGNMENT: Design a multipurpose building with a gallery, classroom, and a transition space

DESIGN SOLUTION: The class was asked to design an area consisting of three different spaces; a gallery, a classroom, and a transition space. For my intervention, I used one of the buildings next door to build my site from leaving as much of the court yard as possible. In designing the intimate space, I considered limiting the natural light in the gallery but having souring ceilings with lots windows for light. In anticipation for the space being versatile for entertaining, there is a huge deck of the classroom to take advantage of the wonderful views. For the materials, I wanted to use glass and wood cladding. Currently, red brick is the main building material and I wanted the gallery to stand out.
