● Care for Self and Others
● Let Go and Move On
Julian Curtiss Pledge
At Julian Curtiss School, I will
strive toward excellence in my
school work by being prepared
to learn and giving my full
effort. I will build my character
by being honest, showing
respect and by safely caring for
myself and others. Every day is
a new beginning.
Behavior Guidelines● Appropriate Behavior is expected of all students
● In class discussion of what the norms mean in behavioral terms should occur on the first day of school and repeatedly over the first few weeks.
● Morning meetings and or community meetings modeled after Responsive Classroom
● Complete class contracts
● Specialists discuss what the norms look like in their settings.
Behavior Guidelines
● Individual teachers utilize preferred classroom behavior systems - marbles in a jar, stoplight system, stickers, rainbow colors, Class Dojo - to reward positive behavior and provide consequences for inappropriate behavior.
● Across all settings, school adults model the behavior expectations using the common language of the norms. Children will practice complying in explicit ways.
Reactive strategies for non-compliance
● Use explicit language to state which norm the student is not following and how to correct their behavior.
● Yelling or sarcasm from the adult is NOT an acceptable strategy.
● After providing explicit redirection, an additional consequence may be instituted such as:
○ Consequence based on the class reward system – move down on the stoplight, move down a color on the rainbow, etc.
Reactive strategies for non-compliance
● Reflection sheet
● Time out in the classroom
● Time out in a buddy teacher’s classroom
● Phone call home.
Depending on the severity of the inappropriate behavior, an office referral may be warranted.
Reflection Sheet
● Uses the common language of the school norms
● Allows students time to reflect on their behavior
● Asks for students to problem solve around alternatives to their behaviors
● Alerts parents to incidents during the school day
Office Referral Leads to one or more of the following depending on the severity of the
incident:
● Reflection Sheet after discussion with administrator
● Working lunch
● Phone call home by administration
● Parent Meeting
● After school detention (with notification to parents and prior
arrangement)
● In school suspension
Office Referral
● Kept on record in the
office for data collection purposes
● Multiple office referrals
lead to meeting with parents to discuss recurring behaviors
● Student may be referred
to PBST
