Willkommen in Potsdam!

Page 4: Potscard - Issue2

Let’s get down to business. What do we know about Potsdam? - Not much! Therefore, we hereby proudly present you all the facts you need to know about our hosting city, Potsdam. Read, learn and enjoy.

For starters, the most essential geographical facts; Potsdam is situated south-west of Berlin and it’s the capital city of the federal state of Brandenburg. There are about twenty lakes and rivers in Potsdam, one of which you may have already noticed. As the city is divided into a historical and a modern area, Potsdam truly is a city of diversity- therefore perfectly representing what EYP is all about.

The history of Potsdam starts ages ago. The city, at the time called Poztupimi, was probably founded in the 7th century. A nice little detail is that a possible translation of the name might be ‘beneath the oaks’. Even back in those days, migration played

Facts about Potsdam By Spread Eagle and Sitting Bratwurst-Gesicht

an important role – just as in this session. During the 17th century, Potsdam became a centre for European immigration, due to

its religious freedom. Later, the city was adopted as a full residence of the Prussian royal family. And after the Second World War a conference

was held, later to become known as the Potsdam Conference. It was here that allied leaders, such as Churchill and Stalin, met to decide on the future of

Germany and post-war Europe in general. During the Cold War, Potsdam belonged to the eastern part of Germany. After the German reunification, Potsdam became the capital of the newly re-established state of Brandenburg.

So if you ever have the chance to visit some of the sights of Potsdam, here’s what’s worth seeing:Park SanssoucisThe Old Market Square (Alter Markt)For the Dutchies: The two-street Dutch Quarter (Holländisches Viertel)The many parks in Potsdam, most of them to be found on UNESCO World Heritage list.

Today I had the privilege to witness the mak-ing of a wonderful team. Young people from 15 different countries all across Europe took the first step towards becoming a well-oiled and harmo-nious think tank.

During the name-action game, in which you have to remember the name of every-one who intro-duced themselves, Ruth (BEL) showed that she has an ex-cellent memory, as she was the last one and had to say everyone’s name and action.

Watching Kyriakos (GRE) and Ani (SPA) working together, you would never guess that they live more than 1000 kilometres away from each other. And Dalton (GBR) and Romain (FRA) proved that the sea that divides their coun-tries does not form an obstacle for excellent co-operation.

After three minutes of playing the ‘human knot’ Katerina (UKR) man-aged to end up underneath (!) her fellow delegates. The knot

wasn’t undone but nonetheless ITRE learned an important les-son about planning and strat-egising.

The terrible ‘Spider’s Web’ formed a great challenge,

but they proved that it was not an impossible one. Though they couldn’t

get all 15 committee members to pass through, Rasmus (FIN) was convinced that provided with 5 more minutes, the job would have been done.

The team is still not perfect, but they have come a long way in very little time and that promises great things for the future…

54th International SessionIt is very likely that many of you will really like what you experience here. You will most proba-bly want to stay involved in EYP as active alumni. You might even feel like giving something back to the organisation that will be giving you so many great memories.

A natural thing to do if this is the case, is to or-ganise an EYP event. All National EYP Commit-tees hold conferences, forums and smaller ses-sions where the organisers are always alumni. The goal of organising is to create a framework for an event. The framework should be the field from where the participants can flourish through-out the activities.

Organising is usually done in teams. Hence the first thing you do if you’ve decided to organise an event is to put together a team. Variety is a key thing when forming the team. Different people have different skills and a mixed team will allow everyone to do things they’re good at. Naturally,

this will be beneficial for the quality of the event.

Now the organisational work actually begins. It con-sists of numerous aspects such as finding accommo-dation, things to eat, and attracting participants. The list could go on forever and you will realise what to take care of while working. Just remember to be open minded, work closely with your team and be prepared to invest lots and lots of time.

Organising an EYP event is a huge and tough job. You will face drawbacks and it won’t be funny all the time. However, taking part in your own event is something really special and unique. You should try it!

ORGANISING AN EYP EVENT

By Smelly Flower

During coffee break, the committee split up in pairs to prepare themselves for the next game: two truths and a lie. The results were truly amazing! Did you know that Charis (CYP) is a Latin dancer, and Alla (RUS) a passionate Arabic dancer? With such an interesting point in

common, this perhaps is the start of a new romance…

Later during the day, when some of AFET ’s delegates had to leave for a few minutes, the others started working on a committee chant. When Igor (UKR) finally returned, he was pleasantly surprised by the catchy and stunning: ‘We’re sexy, we’re cool, we’re AFET AFET TWO. I can’t agree any more.

Then it was time for the famous Human Knot. When the course of the game was discussed during a

debrief, Aninna (GER) excitedly shouted out: “I couldn’t just move, cause like someone else would die.” Now that’s what I call team spirit. A brilliant start for a brilliant committee. I honestly couldn’t have hoped for anything better.

It was snowing on Wednesday. And also on Thursday. And then it started raining. And it didn’t stop raining until the delegates of AFET arrived. Surely, this isn’t a coincidence. There has GOT to be a connection between the weather and the efforts of AFET. Because let’s be realistic: a genius committee like AFET deserves nothing less than the best.

The committee on Foreign Affairs was off to a good start. The sun was shining, they were all looking pretty, but most importantly, every single one of them was eager to begin. With the presence of a lovely Potsdam local, the delegates began their first day of teambuilding by walking around making eye contact. To spice things up a bit, the committee’s chairperson, Richard (GBR), introduced several variations, including approaching each other as two year olds, best friends and trophy winners. Things got even wilder when sandals (a very interesting substitute for tennis balls) were flying through the air.

Now that the ice was broken, it was time for the delegates to get to know each other a bit better. Everyone introduced themselves and their favourite activities, much to the joy of Claudia (SWE), who happily started singing when it was her turn. Next, everyone was blown away by Machteld’s (BEL) ballet performance. To make things complete, Alise (LAT) confessed that she’s a passionate actress. Evidently, talent dominates AFET. Will this session be a turning point in EYP history, with the introduction of EYP The Musical?

54th International Session

Remember Friday? It was the day you all arrived to Potsdam, but most importantly, it was the day the first issue of the hot, vibrant, refreshing but above all, original, session newspaper – Potscard - was released. Before the session had even begun, the almighty journalists began to create a newspaper that would make everyone go seriously crazy. And guess what- it’s about to get even better. It’s something so simple, yet so very effective- It’s THE GOSSIP BOX! It’s there for you to donate ALL the gossip you want to share. Have you seen two delegates kiss? Did you kiss yourself? Or is there any other gossip you think simply cannot be left out of Potscard? Write it on a note and put it in the box, which you can find next to the press room. Your input will make

Potscard even juicier than it already is… Help the Box out, cause it’s hungry.

(EE) fact about eating ants in the past, which was actually true! After some “Big Fat Pony” energising, the ENVI II cool team needed a break just to be prepared for the next activity, which would require some strategic planning (= using the brain). The planning was faster than everyone had expected, though the strategy for the “Bucked Lifting” was slightly criticized. This was because not all of the team members felt fully involved in the activity. Though the members may need more confidence to speak up, all the members agreed that ENVI II is a great team.To sum my day with ENVI II up – the committee has been really fast and efficient in today’s activities, and the Circles rock!

We all know there are lots of stereotypes about different nationalities which are not always true, but was it just coincidence that the last one to arrive to ENVI II´s teambuilding was Clara Mota (ESP)? Either way, after she had joined the group they did some name games -which grew slightly complicated with Ezgi Teksoy´s (TR) name. The delegates from this committee then turned to greeting each other as though they were flirting (welcomed especially by the girls!),politicians, a sports team who has just won a competition and even non-verbally. We could see Kiriaki Kiriazidou´s (GRE) (aka Kiki) sexy face, as well as Claire Fitzgerald’s (CHE) cheek kissing technique, amongst others. However, we could see the guys really get into the sporting activities, especially Michal Dúbravský (CZ) and Tommaso Accinni (ITA).Showing emotions like this resulted in the formation of chatting couples. These pairs had to come up with two real facts and a false one. Some of them were really peculiar, such as Monika Nikitina´s

If you find yourself stuck on an island filled with people dancing on the streets, running around, pretending to be funky chickens, or big fat ponies (funny noises included), telling others truths and lies about each other and drinking loads of red-bull, then you’re witnessing EYP teambuilding. It might seem strange at first sight, but this weird behaviour is to be considered cool and absolutely vital for the rest of an EYP session. Right… meet the stars of this event: the ECON committee. When they introduced themselves with their cool moves, Sigrid (Swe) danced around, Tonio (GER) ran away, Nicolas (FRA) showed his football skills, Madara (Lat) slept and your journo jumped out loud (whatever that means). Things were getting quite complicated, however, Ben (GBR) succeeded in the end to put everything in the right order. After this name game the committee got in

to more and more comfortable p o s i t i o n s trying to get out of the totally stuck human knot.

Next in line there was the spidersweb, the perfect time for the guys to show their muscle, physical flexibility and gentleness to the girls, who were being squeezed through the tiniest holes of the spiderweb in the most relaxed and royal

(read: uncomfortable) way possible. After a certain amount of time (was that really 0 minutes?) of hard work and heavy discussions the committee was almost finished, there was only Marinos (GRE) to go. But when he finally got through the web there

obviously was the voice of the chair in pink (Lat) saying: “That’s it! You

touched the string, get back!” Guess she can’t be too easy on this TALENTED AND EUROCONCERT LOVING committee, now can she? Don’t worry though, this committee can take any challenge and loves their chair. Yeah! That’s ECON-style.

Doing things Econ-style

Dear EYP, I have known you for over a year now and although this may seem to be a short period of time, I have nevertheless decided to use this opportunity to address you with my words of love. I know that this might make you feel awkward but I just could not restrain myself of expressing my feelings for you and your beauty. Our first encounter was characterised by respect and insecurity. I had hardly heard about you before and your strong charisma frightened me a little. However, you quickly managed to turn my worries into pure appreciation. Before I met you I did not know anyone who was able to make me laugh and cry at the same time. Tears of joy lasted even after our meeting had to end while my smile was impossible to hide. You opened my eyes for the beauty of multi-culturalism and through you I broadened my horizon in a way I have never expected it to happen. I adore you and your ability to change people’s lives. You should never lose your uniqueness. Please do not forget me, my love!

Dear mum, I can’t believe it! I am finally here in Potsdam, journoing around! I am telling you, it’s a real shame you couldn’t be here this morning! Energy circulating in the atmosphere and eyes eager to meet, to learn, to understand. You know, there are 0(!) delegations participating in the session -imagine the diversity of it! I am journoing the committee LIBE I, which is chaired by Hamed, a lovely and a really good Belgian-Iranian guy. There are 1 delegates in the committee from 1 different countries, and in few the next days they will have to learn to co-exist and have fun together! In the committee, there are people from the four corners of Europe! There is Stephen from Iceland and Giulia from Italy, Lluis from Spain and Adela from Romania. Today we had teambuilding

and the guys played a game in which they had to memorize information; I must admit that even though Kamel (POL) had to do the most difficult job, he did great in it! One of my first impressions of these guys, is that there are people in this committe that really know how to enjoy life’s pleasures!Apparently Vincent (NED) enjoys drinking, Thomas(FRA) eating and Lucie (CZE) enjoys horse riding! I can’t describe how much I look forward to seize these next days here in Potsdam! My kisses for now! P.S: I think I am going to start collecting german stamps, there are so many and some really nice ones in the Potscard newspaper!

This committee had it together from the start! Chairs Ance (LAT) and Danny (President, ITA) proved immediately to be far more than damn hot chairs, instinctively claiming the beach as CULT territory. We love you guys.

Seven guys and seven girls make up the Committee on Culture and E d u c a t i o n … . convenient, eh? After just a few hours together they were already looking like they had been born into EYP. The first thing they did was to stroll in circles, check each other out, then introduce themselves, then their country, then embrace each other as they would in their own countries, then as though they had known each other for years!

Our lake never looked so good than when this group had taken to the pier. Each gazed silently into the colourful and twinkling depths, admiring the shining colours, sparkling blues and browns….of each other’s eyes.

The traditional “two truths and a lie” was not good enough for this committee- over coffee these learned each others’ life stories. Tall Willem (NED) learns Latin in school, as he’s still just sixteen (and 1. metres tall) and the scientists tell him he’s still go more to grow! Siobhán (IRE) attends an all-girl’s school, chooses tea over beer, and was actually born in England. Viktor (LAT) likes to play chicken with buses, and has a fantastic history of migration in his family’s past. Dimana (BEL) is ambitious. This sunny girl has her eyes set on the secret service no

less, so watch out for her – she may

be watching out for you!

D o c t o r A n d r i a

(CYP) has three cats and two

dogs, whilst Kateryna (UKR) has two dogs as well (which are all

“normal sized”). Perhaps they could donate one to Alisa (SWE) who has none? Oh and remember to lock your bathroom door when this linguist is around… all I’ll say it talk to her about it!

Where sports are concerned, this committee puts me to shame. Justus (GER) is on the national U-1 hockey team, Susete “Suzie” (POR) plays tennis (even if not quite professionally...), Borna (GBR) is a successful kickboxer, Konstantin (RUS) is an Arsenal fan, whilst Sjur (NOR) is a snowboarder. Take note ladies, his back is a little sensitive at the minute so do be gentle.

Meanwhile Helen (EST) pointed out to the surprised “rhymer” Chris (AUS), that Tallinn is in fact the capital of Estonia (“Really?!”). Roll on Euroconcert to see this guy in action, it should be great.

As predicted, the beach is proving to be one of the hottest places on this EYP island, and this committee is shaping up for great great things. Keep it up guys, oh and one more thing to remember…

….the Game! Haha, you lose!

Beach Culture By Red Bull

Let me introduce you a small yet lovely group of actors that you are seriously going to ENVI, be-cause they are absolutely fabulous and stunning. Not only are they the most stunningly beautiful crew but also the most creative human knot. De-spite the fact that they are the coolest theatre company of the session, Sergei (BEL) is their only professional actor. He is really fond of Russian playwrites, so most probably you’re gonna see him one day as Pushkin’s Jevgeni Ongein. But, honestly, the others are not less talented. Even the sailorboy Bernhard (FIN) is able to do amaz-ing tricks with his super gorgeous partner Chry-santhi (GRE). Trust me, you will love them both more than your life! Specially if you tend to be a r wannabe emo like Yuliya (BLG). So basically don’t go to see any drama pieces with her, she is surrounded by positive vibes. But as we all know, most of the people who deal with acting are rather bohemian and tend to drink a lot, so does Andreas (BEL) whose favorite action is drinking. Cheers to that! When he doesn’t drink, you can most probably see him singing or playing piano with a charming lady called Pauline (FRA) who obviously speaks the language of love. But she is not the only sparkling diamond of the theatre, blond-haired non-vegeterian Katrina (LAT) just

makes every single play worth watching. Even though Jonas (CZE) is a bit humble and doesn’t be-lieve in his powers he is a real pro at mime. He can mime rock climbing, rock bands, piano playing and everything else you could possibly come up with. But actors need to be good-looking and fit. That’s why Dan (ROM) is a good swimmer and Begum (TUR) even a professional tennisplayer who gave up drinking coffee because it’s unhealthy. To make the group even more glamorous we have Gabriele (ITA) who warms everybody up with the world’s most gorgeous smile- thats in case he’s not asleep which he usually is though! Bad for us, I know! And if you need someone to play a tree in a play some-time, you can definitely count on Wojciech (POL) since his favorite action is, believe it or not, standing still. Ylva (SWE) and Maëlle (SWI) are not in any way less important, as without them you’d miss a lot. They are the creative brains of the group, hell yeah! So trust me, whatever they do, they do it in such a fabulous and original manner that you’re gonna pity yourself for being such a non-creative loser. I can see them getting over their stage fright and actually starting to cooperate with each other. Well done guys, you seriously rock my world at the moment! Biz!

54th International Session

The day started promisingly. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and Carl (Chair, BEL) woke up in a good mood – which is always demonstrated with his hair looking like a cauliflower while also wearing a red shirt. The first day of the teambuliding was ready to start. LIBE II met right outside House and from the very first moment I spotted this committee, I knew this was going to be something very special,

something what could even surpass the glory of Chanel 5.How do I know this group of people is so special and extraordinary? After a few minutes of introducing e a c h member of the committee, another three members - Masha (UKR), Anna (RUS) and Dino (HRV) - joined us, and revealed to us some details about themselves. After that we discovered another brilliant thing about the committee when they created the map of Europe – LIBE II rules the whole of Europe. Luckily for them, LIBE II has one of the two Icelandic delegates – A‘sta (ICE), the second surprising fact was that Jindrich (CZE) placed the Czech Republic in the middle of Germany and

the third surprise was the fact that the distance between Russia and Iceland was the same as between Germany and France. After a little geographical lesson by Carl, the committee re-arranged Europe and could continue. LIBE II is one of the most compact committees I have ever witnessed; while naming their favourite activities, Mazdak (NED) admitted

his obsession with basketball and drinking and

a proved his loyalty to the team by s t e p p i n g into the circle too.

Everything in that day went swimmingly,

maybe just the pronounciation of the name Praxedes (ESP) made an exception to „The Liberals“ as she said the group could call her Minnie (the similarity to Minnie Mouse is purely coincidential). As you can see LIBE II, led by Carl-Alexander, is a ground breaking group of original people and if you want to know more about this bunch of individuals, wait for more details in next issue of Potscard.

I am blessed with luck. I got allocated to the best committee imaginable. Yes my dear fellows, you will hear from them and you won’t be safe. AFCO is the name to remember. I am very excited so I should rather review this sunny day in chronological order. I HATE... standing in a queue. I HATE... to ski down a piste and end up as a huge human-snowball without being able to access a hospital Well, thanks to Sigbjørn (NOR) we had the first massive laugh of the day. After the laughter was set, the committee members revealed each other’s secrets and skills. Little Ms. Sunshine impersonated by our lovely Judith (AUS) does not only have a constant smile on her face, she is also a hell of a sportswoman. Or can anyone else call himself a former Olympic athlete? The glamorous committee carried on with our beloved game of a human-knot. It did not take long when Emma (IRL), Alexander (RUS) and Gina-Grete (EST) found out that this game, sometimes resulting into separate circles, can actually last for ages. Due to the well elaborated motivation skills of our chair Nicolas Mathoudakis (GRE/BEL) the mentioning of free beer for the committee caused a miracle; they not only succeeded in a ground-breaking record of .0min in their second attempt, they further managed to achieve that while being blind-folded. And when the wind finally whispered the question and asked if a monster is coming over the hill, the committee already

presented themselves as a close-knit group of highly interesting individuals. Arm in arm and with a huge portion of creativity and stamina, AFCO managed to walk as one single monster even if some legs sometimes seemed to be rather loose, right Sven (HRV)? With continuing confidence the committee carried on, and they are most certainly on their way to rule this session. Spider-web, although significantly influenced by the heavy wind, has never seemed to run so smoothly. Marco (POR) showed his flexibility by gliding through the holes in the best Batman manner. Nevertheless, the demanding first half of the day showed its consequences. Hunger and nervousness was noticeable within AFCO until Nicolas finally released them for lunch. Thank you, AFCO, for these first hours of the Teambuilding and keep up the good work! One last question, though. Why were Constance (NED) and Marco (POR) not to be found anywhere after our coffee-break? To be continued...P.S. Thanks again to Daniel (FIN) for helping me out with my Finnish camera!

Eyes sparkling with excitement were the most noticeable features of the DROI committee, as they met for the first time this morning. The ball went around, followed by sweet-sounding and really unique national names. After getting acquainted, fellow committee members presented to each other their national actions. It was quite surprising to see Julia Vonk (NED) turning around with a sexy “Ooops” sound, Maarja Sukles (EST) patting her belly, and Andris Zemitis (LAT) playing a rock guitar. Agnese Bremen (NOR) demonstrated the migration theme of the session with her personal example, getting confused whether she is from Latvia or

Norway. The committee members managed to conduct rather constructive interviews with each other, so if they do not become politicians, they could definitely become spies. Andris (LAT) still needed to make some important phone calls, having come to the session leaving the business at home. And for the first time, only in Potscard (copyright reserved) newspaper: Sevdana Docheva (BLG) has NO siblings, but she HAS got a cat called Rygy. Ben Woolgar (GBR) seemed to enjoy being a cunning cat during the cat

and mouse game, so maybe he could replace Rygy during the session? DROI proved to get over everything fighting for human rights, and even the spider-web presented no obstacle too great for them. We will see what else awaits them on their way, this is just the beginning…

A mass of Knights coming from the North, South, West and East were sent on a special mission. It was a dark and rainy evening when they finally arrived in the land where Bier and Würst will never leave the menu in -star restaurants. The sunny morning after, 15 of these knights, lead by Lady Heili Dungay (Chair, EST/ GBR), were chosen to solve the current employment problems in society. Before they started off sharing ideas, they got to know each other, through games and random conversation.

To get to know each others’ names they started with the most famous throw-the-ball-games. Knight Matt (GBR) obviously couldn’t get enough of it. In almost every game ‘the Lady’ introduced, he wanted it to be a ball-game. It caught my attention that these chosen knights obviously have some strange habits. For example, they welcomed me with the “Funky Chicken” song, in which Terje (EST) came up with the Bill Clinton (Hillary’s husband, USA) move. Aleksandra a.k.a. Ola (POL), Marta (LAV), Stefanie (CHE), Ivana (BUL) and Ceren (TUR) on the other

hand, showed they are not the fighting kind of knights by performing a little fashion show on the catwalk. Believe me it was a pleasure for the eye! Suddenly in the middle of a game Ceren (Delegate, TR) gave birth to a baby of which Jan (BEL) was father. The rest of us can only go green with jealousy! And at the end – as the final proof of their strange habits, Nicolas (FRA), Christina (GER), Diogo (POR), Tamara (CYP), Martin (CZE) and Marco (ITA) randomly gave an ode to the host country’s national food by reinventing themselves as a Bradtwürst factory. Could it be more obvious these knights are the most crazy group of people you could ever meet? I hope these knights, with all their strange habits, will be able to fulfil their mission without any cuts or bruises, because already one of them, Karri (FIN), hurt his leg. Luckily, he was able to capture all of these beautiful moments!

wants her name to be said in a rougher way than Laura (IRE) who pronounces it the ordinary British way. There are also two names containing Lisa in the group. Melisa (SWE), who was a dangerous granny during the game ‘Granny’s watching’, and Annalisa (ITA), whose favourite colour has to be pink. I mean, she has it on almost every accessory!

AFET1 found out that many of the members want to become politicians, all the girls love shopping and everyone likes to sleep late in the mornings. People, please, you’re in EYP, and everyone here

knows that sleep is highly overrated. They also like extreme sports, Ann-Sophie (BEL) will parachute on her upcoming 1th birthday, some of them would like to bungee jump or skydive and Andreas (CYP) plays a lot of tennis (I don’t see what’s so extreme about tennis but the committee most certainly did).

From their journalist’s point of view AFET1 did really good! You have started building an excellent team and you will have lots and lots of fun together. You’re all kind and sweet persons; make sure to keep up the good spirit! I know Krista is really happy with you guys as well. Having two bodyguards, Caspar (NED) and Sigve (NOR), makes her even more pleased.

This is the quick, brief, concise report from the first day of heavy teambuilding in the AFET1 committee. One of the first things Krista’s lovely delis did was to go round in a circle, say their names and a verb starting with the same letter as the name. Nina (UKR) connected her name with nodding, which put Nataliya (RUS) in a tricky situation. She had thought of the same verb and had to come up with a new one quickly. No offence, but Nataliya do you really think nauseating (i.e. throwing up) is an appropriate verb to use? Phillip (GER) obviously likes poking people, Deniz (TUR) is a dance fanatic and – not surprisingly – cute Bianca (AUS) is a fan of brushing her hair.

The committee was having trouble pronouncing the name of João (POR) and soon he was baptised John instead. I suggest you guys start practising saying the poor guy’s real name NOW! This wasn’t the only name problem though. The committee members will also be having a hard time trying not to confuse one Laura for the other. Laura (EST)

It was a beautiful spring morning, when this committee first met up. They started of in way I’ve never seen before. They introduced themselves over and over, every time in a totally different situation. They started as business men and woman but ended up as family that hadn’t seen each other in ages. This is probably the weirdest committee. I can’t emphasize enough how crazy they are! Jorg (BEL) for example, recognised me as his grandfather, while Sinan (delegate, TUR) came over to me and called me his daughter?!? Anyways the first thing that caught my attention when I saw this committee was a majority of guys! I felt

sorry for the girls… But after a while, I saw these girls had the guys hanging off their every word. Afra (ESP), for example, just needed a few little words in Spanish to Sebastian (SWE) and Max (POL) to get the attention of the male side of the group. Also Bianca (ITA) didn’t seem to have a problem with this. While Duchane (FRA), Michaël (CHE) and Emil (FIN) seemed to have problems getting through the spidersweb, Bianca herself got through without any trouble. Obviously these girls need no sympathy… they even like having all that male attention! Arina (ROM) for example shouted out with laughter: “There were so many hands on me; I just didn’t know which hand was whose!” Viewed objectively, no one is an outsider in this group, everyone is included and they’re one of the most enthusiastic groups I’ve seen so far. Even before noon they already spontaneously got together and cheered, hugged and of course laughed!

Emancipation?By Hungry Bison

The delegates left the dining hall tentatively, not quite knowing what awaited them at their destination. Would it be scary or painful, like going to the dentist? Would it be like sitting a tough exam at school? Were they even going to make it out alive?!? Well, good news for all the secret admirers of EMPL1 delegates – they are all in fantastic form and ready for the days that lie ahead. The strapping young delegates started off by introducing themselves and their countries. The lucky person who had to travel the least to get to the session is the committee’s s p e c i a l g u e s t and tour guide from POTSDAM! O t h e r m e m b e r s have had to endure some very tiring trips to get here, such as Zlatka from Bulgaria, Sinem from Turkey or Velimir, all the way from Serbia. The zaniness continued when the committee had

to move from one area to another. Not wanting to fall into the common trap of walking n o r m a l l y , they decided it would be more fun to

do it while rhyming off numbers in the game “big Danny”. It’s not a disaster that they didn’t master it at first... Practice m a k e s perfect! They may attract confused sidelong glances from other committees in the process, but they’ll get it eventually, I’m sure. When they finally reached their destination, the EMPLers got into an intensive

g a m e s s e s s i o n . T h e y managed to solve the human knot in r e c o r d time, even t h o u g h t h e y e n d e d with Juha-P e k k a

(FIN) and Katsiaryna (BLR) in a separate knot...Cheating? From EMPL? Never! They are an honest bunch deep down. The EMPLers have just started getting to know each other, but the atmosphere is already really friendly and relaxed. I’m certain that this group of wonderfully diverse and multicultural individuals will end up forming a great team – Many more days of games and debating await them, and the EYP experience will surely leave them changed for the better. Let the session roll on... EMPL1 is ready for anything!

Greetings from Koli, Finland

I didn’t believe in love at first sight, but now I do. Yes, I have met THE ONE. Honestly, my newfound love has all the qualities I am looking for! My love is:

1. Affluence: Cecilia (FIN) is studying law and as you all know – there is no such thing as a poor lawyer. Living happily ever after in the 1st century is assured!. With dancing skills: Martina (ITA) has got the moves! From hip hop in village parties to ballet on national stages. Standing in the corner when the music starts isn’t an option with this chick! . A good dresser: If there was world championship in dressing well, John (GER) would be a legend! .Good-looking: Oksana (UKR) has the classical look with high cheekbones and big eyes you want your children and grandchildren to inherit!5 .Fun-loving: You just cannot spend the rest of your life with a person who takes life too seriously. Katarina (CRO) is the one to marry if you want to have a good laugh more than once in a decade.. With a good family name: Anything exotic will do the thing and Angelos (GRE) has the power – the name!7. With a good sense of humour: Aisling (IRL) comes from the land of fun – Ireland. Do I have to say more?

.Emphatic: Ayoub (NED) is planning to be a volunteer in South Africa teaching English to locals. Can it get better than this?. Witty: Brains definitely runs in Terezas (CZE) family!10. Lingual powers: Aurelian (FRA) is a native speaker of the sexiest language ever – French! Try beating that!11. Artistic: Sabina (ROM) has the flag colours of EU, Romania and Germany in her hair and obviously you don’t! Make connections now and she will tell you all about the art history besides the paintshop pro you know about!1. The right equipment: Don’t get me wrong! Ignat (BLR) really knows the way around the world and your head! 1. Mysterious: Milena (MAC) is deep. Try digging her and I can assure you that you wouldn’t find a bottom. 1. Original: Aleksanor (CSR) plays trumpet while swimming or was it the other way around? Original people don’t do different kind of things, they do things differently and he is the best example of it!15. Noble: Oxana (RUS) seems like a royalty and who wouldn’t like to date one?

This is the final call for those EYP passengers who should all be on board by this time…Whether you have made shorter or longer trips to get here, all of us have our own troublesome, funny or not so funny stories which give a special taste to the beginning of this EYP experience. All the trips start with packing and sometimes it is not an easy task. It could seem as if a whole country is moving to another country. In the Serbian delegation we found a girl who weighs one kilo less than her suitcase. However it is not all about packing but also about choosing a right suitcase. Even though people know Germany doesn’t have loads of mountains you might need a suitcase with wheels to bring your baggage up the hill…You have to be careful about losing someone from your group but the conditions are not always in your favour. For example a train door can split your group in two, which the delegation from the Netherlands experienced…The troubles are not always as real as they seem, but you have to take into consideration that lack

of sleep can sometimes make you see unreal things, like a cat on a plane seen by the delegation from Cyprus…Another important thing is to be careful with what and how are you packing because it can be confusing for some airport controllers, who have not always graduated from high school. We personally find it quite impossible for a pot of anchovies to qualify as drug dealing, but the Spanish air controller who suspected a member of the Spanish delegation disagrees…Maybe it is a bit late now to suggest this, but you can follow the nice example of a Russian delegate who slept all the way from Moscow (which is quite is long way) so he’ll probably have a higher immunity against sleep which is a big issue in EYP…You might have had to sleep in a public place (for example a station) but not anyone can come up with an idea as great as the one from the Macedonian delegation, which was about being their own guards (by taking turns)…The moral of these stories is this: whatever happens just make sure you make the best of it and see the bright side!
