What is Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?
• Web 1.0
This is a web page that has the purpose of presenting information to an audience.
• Web 2.0
This is a web page that has the purpose of presenting information where the audience can view and respond.
Web 1.0
The White Pages is Web 1.0 because it is an example of information
being uploaded to a website. The only intention being to show
information and not allow the audience to respond.
Web 2.0
Stuff is a Web 2.0 site because it allows their audience to share their views and
opinions with one another. This is an example of a discussion forum. Stuff also
allows their audience to share the article on their personal Facebook or
MySpace page.
Why make a change after all these years of effective teaching?
• New curriculum
• Learning needs of teenagers are changing
• Increased opportunity to share with a larger community
• Increased motivation of students with a wider audience
Links to the new curriculum
• Key competencies:
1. Thinking
2. Relating to others
3. Participating and contributing
4. Using language, symbols and text
5. Managing self
So how can you use Web 2.0 products to be a more effective
teacher in the implementation of the new curriculum?
•Scribd- an online document storage centre. From here you can embed
documents onto your own webpage. This also means that students don’t
require the latest version of Windows documents.
YouTube- Online video uploaded from a variety of sources can be
embedded onto your own webpage. This allows for teachers to offer support
material for text studied.
Slideshare- an online slideshow storage centre. You are able to upload
PowerPoint presentations and embed them into your webpage. This is a
valuable tool for collating teacher notes. From the webpage, viewers are able to
add comments and share with others.
Heaps of other things that you can play with when you are feeling more
confident.
• Wordle- text cloud tool
But how are we able to do this when we have no time because of
everything else?
• Training days
• Asking for help
• Walk before you can run
• Student support within your own class
So how does this change the department ICT goal?
• The focus for us is to use ICT in a way where it is an effective teaching tool.
• ICT should not be a hindrance or something that is used once a term.
• ICT does not replace the teacher in the classroom, but is a more effective way of implementing the key competencies.
