A LEVEL ART & DESIGN - FINE ART

EXAMINATION BOARD: OCR

A Level Art & Design- component 1 – Personal Investigation

TASK FOR THIS WEEK

Hello 6.1’s, we hope that you and your families are still safe and well

We are now going to give you 4 weeks to produce an additional artist reference board for your project (this may be a mini-board rather than a whole A1 board) on the artist that

you analysed last week

This week you should aim to draw out your illustration/s accurately and in detail

LEARNING PURPOSELO1: I will observe carefully in order

to analyse the artworks that I will be illustrating

LO2: I will produce an accurate linear study of at least one piece of my

additional artist’s works

LO3: I will evaluate and refine my study in terms of accuracy and

detail

Specialist Vocabulary: Composition, arrangement, accuracy, proportion, scale, surface, outline, sketch, evaluate, detail, preparation, refine

Prior Learning

• Artist reference illustrations and

boards from earlier in the year

• Analysis of this artist’s work in last

week’s task

Future Learning

• Development of ideas towards final

piece

• Analysis of artists in examination

project

Task 1: select at least ONE of the

artist’s works (the artist is the one

you analysed last week – we

emailed you) to make an artist

reference study from

Print off a good copy of this

artwork to work from if you can

Consider what surface you

should work on

(paper/board/card) depending

upon what media you might be

using on it next week

YEAR 12 – ADDITIONAL ARTIST REFERENCE Getting started…

Print off a good copy of the piece you are illustrating (the one you analysed last week)Make sure the paper/surface

you are working on it TO SCALE with the illustration before

drawing out

Task 2: Now draw out your piece this week so

that you can start adding media next week

You could GRID your piece up (making sure

the scale of the illustration is the same as the

scale of your paper)

You could use a LIGHT BOX or WINDOW if can

and if you are working on paper

You could use some GRAPHITE TRANSFER

PAPER or TRACING PAPERif you have any

There is also an APP for your phone called

‘Camera Lucida’ which you can buy – on this

you can fade the image you are drawing from

and also see live through your camera at the

same time (set it up overhead so it’s still)

YEAR 12 – ADDITIONAL ARTIST REFERENCE Drawing out…

YEAR 12 – ADDITIONAL ARTIST REFERENCE

Task 3: Now spend a bit of

time CHECKING and

EVALUATING your work so

far

Check for accurate

scale and proportion

Check for any

additional details you’ll

need to add

Add any light tone in

areas if you need to

mark them out more

clearly

Refining…
