Guidelines for IEEE-SA Meetings All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all
applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions.
Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings.
Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers,
or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed… do formally object.

Discussion points
• 802.24 has been asked to consider how its work relates to Industry Connections:– Should there be a relationship between
802.24 and Industry Connections?• Formal or informal?
– Is there a benefit for broader connection and exposure within IEEE-SA?
– Could IC help our projects with better coordination?

802.24 White paper on TSN
• Ethernet operation to provide time bounded or deterministic services.
• How can this be applied in utility applications?– Substation networks– Interconnection between LAN and WAN
• The requirement comes from specific applications:– Starting point was Audio/Video, and industrial automation, and now entering automotive– Now the TSN capability is application agnostic– Automotive is an emerging application – replace CAN, Flexray, etc.
– There is also ring topology for redundancy
• Questions:– Is utility protection application considered for TSN? – Today there is some use of proprietary real-time Ethernet variants. – GOOSE protocols– Synchrophasor applications

Plans for TSN white paper
• IEC TC 57 Collaboration• TSN specified in 61850 through IEC
– IPV6 is also being adopted into 61850– OPC Foundation, ODBA are adopting TSN
(and also use 61850)– IEC TC57 is developing profiles for use of
TSN. • Profiles for application domains.

Future Opportunities Tracking (1)
• 802.24 white paper on IoT and P2413? – Maybe more towards completion of
P2413? – Agnostic to underlying communications,
but applicable to all 802 standards. – Highlight the relationship between P2413
and 802 standards.

Future Opportunities Tracking (2)• 802.15.12 ULI
– Eventually, we can explain how it relates to the rest of 802, and better integration. Well defined ways of integrating.
– Take this up when there is a draft
• 802.15.4s SMR – spectrum management resources– Can 802.24 provide an input with respect to Smart Grid or IoT? – IEC 65C WG 17 dealing with coexistence management and spectrum policy– ETSI TCRRS reconfigurable radio systems– ETSI TCERM WG 41 – defining a central coordination point to handle spectrum.
• Sharing and increasing coexistence and providing better QoS • Coordinate with 802.22.3• Action Plan:
– Coordinate with ULI initiative– 4s resource management is defined, but now how they are used– White paper could cover how adaptation and resource management are accomplished.– Including use of metrics for management.

Future Opportunities Tracking (3)
• Are there any new utility industry activities or organizations that could benefit from a liaison to 802.24?– Useful Output: Identify the use cases that the
standards serve, and provide them to the industry.• That can then define who is an appropriate liaison
– Need to educate and inform liaisons to gather needs and requirements with respect to IEEE 802 projects. Identify the tools we have available, and present the available toolbox.
