The UP-2210 Power Quality Monitor is designed forpermanent installation in any 50 / 60 Hz system. Allvoltage and current channels are differential, allowingthe UP-2210 to be installed regardless of systemconfiguration.

The unit has 12 voltage and 4 current channels whichmay either be connected directly or using PTs and CTsas required. The heart of the UP-2210 is a 32-bit digitalsignal processor (DSP) enabling all 8 channels to besimultaneously monitored, thereby providing the mostadvanced features available anywhere.

The unit is designed to be fitted inside a switchboard orother equipment and to communicate to a convenientlylocated computer. Several units may be networked to asingle computer, thus providing centralised monitoringto locations both local or distributed on a global basis.

The UP-2210 is based on a powerful digital signalprocessor (DSP) which makes it possible tomonitor all parameters simultaneously with highaccuracy.

The analogue sampling system is synchronised with theactual fundamental frequency, which ensures class Aaccuracy and precision as well as accurate eventcapturing.

Each and every cycle is analysed in accordance withIEC 61000-4-30 Class A. The UP-2210 can easily be setup to measure in accordance with EN 50160 or anyother national or international standard, withautomatic reporting to management or other any otherinterested receiver.

Analogue inputsThe UP-2210 has 4 differential voltage and 4 differentialvoltage transient inputs. The bandwidth of each input isadapted to the appropriate application. When measuringharmonics a lower bandwidth is needed than whencapturing transients. The UP-2210 also has 4 differential current inputchannels. In low voltage networks the fourth currentchannel can be used to measure the neutral current.

Ground fault applicationThe fourth voltage channel can be used for earth pointmonitoring in order to find ground faults in impedancegrounded networks.

Earth leakageThe UP-2210 is automatically detecting any earthleakage by summing the phase (and neutral) currents. Ifthere is a ground fault some current will flow in adifferent path and the leakage is detected.

Digital Inputs and Fault RecordingThe UP-2210 can be equipped with digital inputs thatcan interface with a variety of external equipment suchas kWh-meters, water meters, protective relays, circuitbreakers etc. By connecting signals from the protectiverelays, the UP-2210 can work like a fault recorder, recording all signals upon a trig signal at a digital input.

Digital OutputsThe UP-2210 can also be equipped with digital outputsthat can be programmed to alarm when certain pre-setconditions are met. This in turn can alert other, externalsystems. The digital outputs can be used to synchroniseother meters (or UP-2210) to record at en event.

Power Quality Monitor (UP-2210)The UP-2210 is a full-featured, norm-compliant (IEC61000-4-30 Class A) power quality monitor capable ofdetecting any disturbances encountered in a network. It interfaces with the PQ Secure software package.

Measured parametersThe UP-2210 has been developed as a full-featuredpower quality and transient monitor to simultaneouslymeasure all events on all channels. Individual triggerlevels can be set to enable an infinitely variable range ofuser-defined trigger conditions, either from the remoteworkstation or via a laptop directly connected to themonitor. If a disturbance occurs that exceeds thedefined trigger levels the monitor will record thedisturbance.

The internal memory has been chosen so that there areno moving parts. Problems with hard disks are a thingof the past. Instead, the analyser stores the events onits solid-state internal memory using a sophisticated datacompression technique so that 4 MB representstypically 20 days storage. Remember that the key is theautomatic download to the central database.

Waveforms and power quality parameters can be viewedin real-time with PQ Online or as historical data with the

PQ Secure software (SQL database).

Basic parameters and demandsAll basic power quality parameters are measuredcontinuously and can be viewed in real-time withPQ Online, or as historical data with PQ Secure.

Fault Recorder ModuleThe UP-2210 can also be equipped with a fault recordermodule, which activates the unit's digital inputs forsupervision of the status of circuit breakers, relays andother external equipment. Whenever there is a distur-bance in the electrical grid the unit records voltage andcurrent deviations, together with information about theconnected external equipment.

CommunicationA central feature of UP-2210 is the flexibility and easeof communication between the workstation and thepermanently installed monitor. Communication can bevia a wire, phone connection, radio (and GSM), fibre/wire, etc. The monitor has built-in RS-232, RS-485,USB, Ethernet and also a modem.

HarmonicsHarmonic distortion is caused by non-linear generatorsor loads and can cause severe problems. For example, capacitor banks can easily be damaged and neutralconnectors can overheat. To identify harmonic-relatedproblems it is necessary to measure continuously. TheUP-2210 unit measures harmonics, both amplitude andphase, up to the 50th harmonic. Both THD-F, THD-Rtogether with K-factor and harmonic power arecalculated. All harmonics calculations are in accordancewith IEC 61000-4-30 Class A (IEC 61000-4-7 Class I).The UP-2210 also has a module for studyinginterharmonics and signalling.

Transients, Sags and SwellsDisturbances in a power system are defined as voltagetransients, sags or swells. Transients are fastdisturbances originating from lightning, load switchingetc. Voltage sags are short-duration low RMS-valuesgenerally caused by faults such as short circuits in theutility system. The reliability of a power system iscritical to most businesses and is greatly affected by sagsand swells.

The UP-2210 detects and categorises the type ofdisturbance, and helps to identify the source bydetermining the direction. It measures and calculates theRMS value for each half cycle and uses precision peakdetectors to detect transients down to 1 microsecondduration. When a transient or a sag/swell occurs theUP-2210 records it and stores all necessary data in thebuilt-in memory. It is then automatically transferred tothe workstation with a seamless timebase for evaluation.Transients and sags & swell measurements are based onIEC 61000-4-30 Class A.

MountingThe UP-2210 is a compact and rugged unit and isintended to be mounted permanently on site. The size isonly 205 x 300 x 65 mm (width x height x depth) andideal for mounting in any switchboard. An optionalgraphical display is also available for front panelmonitoring on site and measures only 184 x 91 x 96mm. The display unit can be mounted remotely fromthe UP-2210 and is equipped with an extra front panelRS-232 communication port to which a portablecomputer easily can be connected to view real-timeparameters on site.

UP-2210 installed in a substation cabinet

FlickerFluctuating loads cause voltage variations that are oftenreferred to as flicker. Lamps connected to such a voltageproduce a flickering light, very annoying to the humaneye. The UP-2210 measures voltage flicker inaccordance with IEC 61000-4-30 Class A (IEC 61000-4-15) and calculates flicker parameters such as IFL, PSTand PLT.

UnbalanceUnbalance is a condition where the three phases differin amplitude. This unbalance is frequently expressed asthe ratio of the negative phase sequence divided by thepositive phase sequence, as a percentage. Even smallamounts of voltage unbalance decrease the efficiency ofa three-phase motor. Monitoring the unbalance can helpto improve efficiency and increase the longevity of amotor.

The UP-2210 measures and stores the positive-, nega-tive- and zero-phase sequence and the unbalance forboth voltage and current in accordance with IEC61000-4-30 Class A.

PQ Secure, historical evaluation of PST,short-term flicker severity.

Real-time and troubleshootingWithout interrupting the logging of all parameters, theUP-2210 can show values in different real-time graphs. This makes a great tool that can be used whentroubleshooting different problems on site as well asremote.
