– Every subject has a T-score
– All Subject T-scores PSLE Aggregate T-
score
– EVERY mark counts.
• PSLE Posting
– By Choice & By Merit
– All pupils are ranked according to their
aggregate T-score
Implications
• Importance of passing EL & Maths
• ‘U’ grade implications: – Std subjects: >20 marks
– Foundation subjects: >30 marks
– Impact on T-score
• Place of HMT
– HMT: Add 3 points for Distinction, 2 for Merit,
and 1 for Pass. For application to SAP
schools only.

How is T-score calculated for
each subject? • Formula

Importance of CCA
• CCA as a destressor. A necessary component of a healthy lifestyle.
• CCA and other co-curricular details are inserted into testimonial or letter of appeal requested from the school
• CCA teaches values e.g. respect, tolerance of diversity and commitment.
• CCA teaches 21C skills, e.g. teamwork & leadership

process
Step 1:
Understand the problem
•Read through the whole question
• Highlight key words/numbers
• What am I asked to find?
Step 2: Plan • What are some of the ways I can try to
solve the problem?
• Model/diagram, Make a list or table, look for a pattern, Guess and check, Work backwards, Before-After concept, Use a formula or Make a time line
• Do I need to use more than 1 strategy?
• Which is the fastest and most suitable method?
Step 3:
Do
• Show all steps clearly
• Try another method if I am stuck
4-steps in the problem-solving process

Minimum Subject Requirements
The average P5 science marks in
SAPS is between 65 to 70 marks
Your child is expected to obtain at least 30
marks for their science assessments.
Below this minimum mark, it is very
difficult for him/her to follow and cope
with the science syllabus for Standard
Science.
Pupils’ shortcomings
Does not know facts
Misconceptions
Non-specific answers
Connect concepts to real-life situations
We need to improve in these areas……
Does not know science facts / Misconceptions
- Weak in explaining differences between
processes that they have learnt from e.g.
e.g. pollination & fertilisation (P5)
- Unable to make connections between
processes e.g. evaporation & condensation (P5)
We need to improve in these areas……
Non-specific answers
Anthonians generally have difficulty in
applying concepts to a new situation.
They give a general answer that is correct but
do not connect to the situation in the question.
Water evaporates and condenses in cup.
Water in the seawater evaporates and
condenses under plastic cover. (1m)
Water slides down the plastic and collects
under stone and falls in cup. (1m)
We need to improve in these areas……
. Higher-order thinking skills
Anthonians have difficulty making predictions
based on their understanding of the data given in
the question and identifying related concepts
linked to the data given.
Our Vision Connecting concepts to real-life situations
Anthonians have difficulty connecting concepts
to real-life events. We can help them by being be
curious and guide them by asking questions.
Essentially, questioning helps to probe
understanding ( e.g. How can we explain? );
prompt further thinking (e.g. What would happen
if…? )
We need to improve in these areas……
Our approach to teaching & learning in science
Teacher will be a good questioner. To ask
CLARIFYING, VERIFYING, FOCUSING questions
across a range of difficulty so that pupils have a
chance of success in responding correctly, yet find
the questions challenging
Use of oral & written feedback to help pupils in
their learning process e.g. subject performance
report at the end of major assessments to update
parents and pupils on strengths & weaknesses
Connect Concepts to Life
Learning with REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES that pupils
can relate to: Explain how his action reduces the
temperature of the tea more quickly than leaving the
cup of hot tea on the table to cool on its own
[Concept tested: Bigger exposed surface area
speeds up the loss of heat to the air]
Connect Concepts to Life
Learning with REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES that pupils can
relate to: Explain how fans with a water mist system can
help to lower the surrounding temperature and cool the
surrounding air more effectively
[Concepts tested: Mist absorbs heat from
surrounding & fans help to spread the mist to larger
area]
2012 PSLE Question
PSLE Question
Learning with REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES that pupils
can relate to: Explain how putting a plastic bottle filled
with stones into the water tank helps us to reduce the
amount of water used to flush the toilet bowl
[Concept tested: Matter occupies space]
Connect Concepts to Life
