Scavenge- 1) to take or gather; 2) to salvage from trash
The girls scavenged through the trash to find something collectible.
Apathy- lack of interest or concern
The boy felt complete apathy and didn’t want to change the mistake he made after he put the letters down.
Derelict- 1) lacking a sense of duty or 2) abandoned
When the kid acted in a derelict way by not doing his work, the teacher told him to go outside in the hallway.
Desolate- deserted and barren
The day after the hurricane, the desolate city looked like a ghost town.
Devoid- lacking or untouched by anything
The room was devoid of all life because someone had just moved out.
Lax- loose or slack
