1 Use of this Pre-treatment Chart

Information about the pre-treatment of surfaces in this document serves as guideline only and must be verified by tests on original substrates. Project specific pre-treatment recommendations, based on laboratory tests, are available from Sika on request.

1.1 Symbols used

Symbol Signification

■ □ ■ ■

A■, A□

1st choice recommendation 2nd choice recommendation Both pre-treatment steps are required. Apply the left one first (respect flash-off time) followed by the right one. Treat surface with an abrasive pad very fine before applying the pre-treatment.

1.2 Exceptions

For some Sealing & Bonding products there are other pre-treatment needs than stated in this pre-treatment chart. The following table lists all products which require a special procedure as well as their correct pre-treatment.

Sealant Technology Pre-treatment / Remarks

all Silicones

1-C Silicone

Isopropanol for glazing applications (due to possible streaking of Sika® Aktivator-205 on glass)

1.3 Product Technology

The recommended pre-treatment for all products (exceptions see above) can be found in the pre-treatment tables. As the recommended pre-treatment may be different among technologies there is one column for each of them. Please make sure to choose the recommendation from the correct column. The following table lists some products for each technology. For all product not mentioned below the technology, the recommended pre-treatment can be found in the product data sheet (PDS).

Precondition: Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust, loose or friable particles. Cement laitance has to be removed. Grinding the surface of non- porous substrates with an abrasive pad very fine may improve the adhesion performance. It is recommended to verify compatibiility with the cleaning products.
