C.HAFNER solder pastes are a homogeneous mixture of extremely fine solder powder andbinding agent. The appropriate flux is addedto the paste for flame, induction and resistancesoldering.

Solder pastes without flux are used for soldering in continuous inert gas furnaces (furnace tem- perature approx. 100°C above working tem-perature). The inert gas prevents oxidation, so no subsequent cleaning in an acid bath is re-quired.

Whether for industrial production or one-off items – C.HAFNER solder pastes are quality products that are suitable for all applications. The precise dosing considerably reduces con- sumption. The ergonomic design of the various dispensing devices makes for simple handling, which also enhances accuracy and working comfort.

Cartridges with 3 cc/8 g can be used in the MK3 dispensing device. For larger cartridges containing 10 cc/30–50 g and 30 cc/75–100 g, you will require our 850 D dispensing device (pneumatic) or the Performus V (with micro-processor control).

Pack sizes

All pastes are available in the following container sizes: 3 cc, 5 cc, 10 cc, 30 cc, large cartridges and pots.

Benefits and characteristics

Improved quality Fast and precise application of solder paste

Accurate dosing Low solder consumption Simple handling All solders are cadmium-free

fibre mats

Special semi-finished products

The basic material comprises fibres of 750/yellow gold or 935/silver, which are made into fibre mats using a special process. Visually stunning, they combine lightness and transpa-rency. Fibre mats can be cut into pieces, sawn,

bent and moulded. They can also be soldered or laser-welded. Jewellery made from fibre mats has a unique look, and the light weight means lower material costs.

Semi-finished products based on a time-honoured Japanese technique

Mokume (wood grain) and gane (metal) is a Japanese metal processing technique with a more than 400-year tradition. The special tech-nique of bonding together different precious, and some non-precious, metal to form solid „billets“, and the subsequent process of cutting and flattening creates a range of surface patterns of highly organic character that are reminiscent of moving water or wood grain.

Mokume gane blocks

Our mokume gane blocks are available in a range of alloys. These can be surface-welded and converted into patterned sheets by mil-ling, cutting, forging and rolling the material to individual requirements.

Mokume gane sheets

The ready-made mokume gane sheets are av-ailable in a range of different coloured layers and can be hand-worked to create totally unique items of jewellery.

The sheets are available with minimal sur- face roughness in a range of alloys, thick-nesses and dimensions.

Patina solution

Order No. 52280

42

Baldwin’s patina has been especially develo-ped for our mokume gane metal combinations. For best results, we recommend thoroughly cleaning the surface with soap in order to re- move any oily film. Prepare the surface by rub-bing it with a fine pumice stone. Heat the metal under running hot water and shake off any excess water. Carefully rub a small quantity of the solution over the entire surface and rinse. Repeat the alternate rubbing and rinsing until you have achieved the desired colour. Copper should turn a rich dark brown. Shakudo turns black and shibuichi grey brown

– without affecting the colour of the silver.Traditional liver of sulphur can be used as a verydilute solution. Any yellow colouring on the silver may be very difficult to remove. Clear house- hold cleaning agents, ammonia or ammoniavapour are also suitable for turning the coppera soft brown.

Creative freedom in fine silver

In contrast to the rigid form of precious metal, silver clay is a pliable material that can be shaped and moulded into a specific form, either with your hands or using a variety of tools. This opens up a whole new range of creative options and gives considerable artistic freedom when it comes to the design of precious metal.

Jewellery making with silver clay

Forming Silver clay can be moulded into any shape and given a virtually unlimited range of surface structures, e.g. by working it with stamps, tooth- brushes, skewers, socks, etc.The clay can be cut or pierced, and small indi- vidual parts can be attached to larger items by simply pressing them on.Precious stones can also be added, the most suitable being stones which contain aluminium oxide, such as rubies and sapphires. These stones are automatically securely fixed due to the shrinkage of the modelling clay that occurs during firing.

Drying2–3 days at room temperature or 1 hour in an oven at 80° C

FiringIn a furnace with temperature control

FinishingThe fired clay jewellery can then be finished in just the same way as a conventionally created item of jewellery. The only thing that must be borne in mind when designing jewellery is that the drying and firing cause the silver clay to shrink by approx. 30%.

For a firing fee, C.HAFNER will also fire your silver clay jewellery for you. If you wish to fire your own jewellery, we pleased to recommend some furnace manufacturers. Or if you already have a furnace, but without temperature control, this can be retrofitted.

Gold bars from C.HAFNER are a safe way of investing in uncertain times and are also a logical complement to a jeweller’s range. Small weights in particular are an attractive alternative to the standard bank note. The elegant finish of the bars with their finely embossed surface also ensures that gold bullion from C.HAFNER will stand out from conventional bullion. Bullion is an excellent investment vehicle with a unique aesthetic appeal.
