Portal Milling Machine for 5-Side Machining Machines made by Schiess always have the reputation to be very stable, precise and durable. Now with the new product line "Aschersleben" we offer medium-sized machines which are developed according to latest engineering guidelines and are powerful but well-priced versions of our established large machining centers. Efficiency,precision,operatorconvenienceandeaseofservice characterize this new generation of portal milling machines.

This highly stable machine concept with its moving table combines very high precision with very high dynamic. Moreover table sizes up to 8.000 mm x 3.000 mm and maximum workpiece weights up to 40.000 kg offeryouaflexiblesolutionforeachofyour5-sidemachiningtasks.

TheprovenMasterheadSystemallowsaflexibleand technology-oriented application of several different machining heads. The automatic tool changing system with chain magazine is vertically mounted on the left hand column of the machine and can be loaded or unloaded during the machining process.

The ram is made of cast design (GGG 60), the ram housing as well (GGG 40). Another highlight is the C-axis which is integrated into the ram and can be positioned steplessly.

The operation of the CNC control Sinumerik 840D sl is very easy. The machine is equipped with up to dateenergy-efficientservo drives. Direct absolute measu-ring systems eliminate the need of reference runs.

Columns, connection parts and cross rail are manufactured of high-quality casting. The cross rail is stepless adjustable.

All CNC axes are based on centrally lubricated linear guideway systems.

The new table is developed based on bionic design principales and manufactured as special honeycomb structure. It is highly inherently stable and nevertheless weight optimized. The table feed in X-direction as well as the support saddle representing the Y-axis are driven by servo- motor, gears and double pinion/rack and therewith guarantee maximum stiffness and accuracy. The drives of the linear axes X and Y are electronically preloaded.
