Prelim Task Evaluation Zara Akhtar

1. Who did you work with and how did you manage the tasks between you? Explain how you organised your time and schedules. What issues came up with time management? What problems did you come up against? How did

you deal with these? What were your strengths and weaknesses in this area? What would you

do differently next time?Overview Clarrisa and Alex were who I worked with in my group Clarrisa was behind the camera where Alex and I were in front of it Stayed behind after school to film our scene from 2:40 to 4:00Problems When editing we all never had a free lesson at the same time. This resulted in using up more of our time during our media lessonStrengths Our management of organisation Weaknesses > Our time management

2. How did you plan your sequence? What process did you

use? Made a detailed storyboard which included information such as:Camera shots e.g. Close up, mid long shot Camera movements e.g. Panning, tiltsOrder of shots

After creating the story board we rehearsed it and timed it so when we edited we knew how long it needed to be.This was good as it helped us when filming to be fully organised.

3. What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it? What did you

learn about using the cameras? Here you can also refer to the discussions we have had in

class recently about digital cameras.

Camera used was the Cannon HD Cameras. Tri pod was also used. This helped to:Keep the camera was steady To make camera movements like tilt and panning.Things learntCount to five before filming – or first few seconds could get cut off Let camera focus before filming For editing we used Adobe Premiere and we learned to make sure we don't overlap clips otherwise it could get deleted

4. What factors did you have to take into account when planning,

shooting and editing? Planning Considered the amount of space we would have Had to be realistic in terms of how we were going to film a certain shot.Shooting Considered the ‘rule of thirds’ so the screen was always evenly filled out according to the different shots.Considered continuity and how realistic it looks – therefore we repeated everything every time we had a new shot.Editing > Considered how long each shot should be as we did not want to spend too much time on one specific shot

5. How successful was your sequence? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight,

what would you improve/do differently?

What was successful? The continuity was successful Our shots between takes worked well It was timed nicelyAction and reaction was very clearImprovements It could have been improved if there was a close up of the invitation when Alex was taking it out of his pocket I would have had an close up of my face after Alex had hugged me to show the reaction to the action

6. What have you learnt from completing the task? Discuss time management skills, group work skills, organisational skills and

technical skills of production Time Management skills Have improved significantly as now working quickerStill feel as though it could be improved in other ways like how quickly we set up a camera and how long we spend filming/editing one particular shot Organisational and technical skills Knew exactly what, where and how to do our task as had a well laid out storyboardWas confident with the editing as previously had a practice session Group work skills All had and equal chance in editing Were listening to each others feedback and ideasWere making important decisions together

7. Post production - What did you learn about the editing process? How did you make decisions while

editing? How did you plan your time to complete the editing task? What were your strengths and weaknesses in this area? What would you do

differently next time? Editing – some useful tools that I learned how to use were the cut tool and zooming in and out Used trail and error when making decisions to see what worked and what didn't work Planned time – first two lessons we would edit beginning and middle and last lesson would edit the end Strengths Knew exactly what scene to we were going to be editing on each day so it did not waste time Weakness Spent too much time of certain shots which meant that we were rushing to edit it towards the endNext time?Would not spend so much time watching scene back, would just carry on until the end
