Welcome to Lugano

On behalf of the scientific committee, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to Lugano on June 7–8, 2012 in the Palazzo dei Congressi for the Joint Annual Meeting of the Swiss Society of Neurosurgery SSN and the Society of British Neurological Surgeons SBNS together with the Association of neurosurgical nursing staff Switzerland ANNSS. It is a joy to welcoming our British colleagues on the south side of the Swiss Alps on the banks of the beautiful Lago di Lugano.

Distinguished national and international speakers will join us for this meeting, which is configured around four main topics: • Vascular diseases and treatments• Tumours• Integrated op theatre and intraoperative monitoring• Spinal disorders

The main programme of this meeting will start on Thursday with lectures and presentations and will be continued by free communications. The poster viewing, a second free communication ses-sion, lectures and an award ceremony are planned for Friday. A dinner for speakers and members of the board will be on Wednesday, the social dinner will take place on Thursday.

This constellation of two societies from different countries will allow rich and exciting exchanges. Thanks to all presenters, organizers, sponsors and attendees who made or will make this confe-rence happen!

AirportsLugano-Agno Airport, situated at 6 km from the city, is an ideal point of arrival.

Milano-Malpensa AirportThis international airport is situated in Italy. It is at about 48 km from the centre of Milan and at about 60 km from that of Lugano (Switzerland).

Zurich AirportThe international Zurich Airport is situated in close proximity to Zurich and is considered one of the world’s best airports. Swiss International Air Lines currently flies to 48 European and 25 inter-continental destinations in 39 countries from its hub in Zurich.

TrainThe Lugano railroad station, which is on the international axis of the Gottardo (Milan-Chiasso-Zurich), offers you fast and easy connections.

CarComing from Milan, take the Laghi A9 motorway in the direction of Como-San Gottardo or the A8 motorway in the direction of Varese-Stabio (Gaggiolo). Advised exit: Lugano Sud.

Coming from Zurich take the A2 motorway in the direction of San Gottardo-Chiasso-Italy. Advised exit: Lugano Nord. (Please remember that to drive on Swiss motorways it is necessary to be equipped with the motorway sticker that is to be applied onto the car windshield (the cost: CHF 40.–, valid from Jan.-Dec.) it may be purchased at Customs.)

Lugano is easy to reach with several means of public transportation (the railroad, the regional Lugano-Airport) and also by means of private transport (the A2 motorway). Milan, the capital of northern Italy may be conveniently reached in 45 minutes by motorway or in one hour by train.
