Media Release October 25, 2012 PRELUDE FLOATING LNG MILESTONE HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF MAJOR AUSTRALIAN OIL AND GAS EVENT Global oil and gas giant Shell has achieved a significant milestone in the construction of the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility – just one month ahead of a major international conference in Perth which will have a major focus on the advent of FLNG technology. Shell recently celebrated cutting the first 7.6 tonnes of the eventual 260,000 tonnes of steel needed to build the Prelude FLNG vessel, which when completed, will be the largest offshore floating facility ever built. Prelude will be a major topic of discussion at the Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) International Conference & Exhibition being staged at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 27 to 29. The Prelude FLNG facility, which will process an estimated 3 trillion cubic feet of gas off the north-west coast of Western Australia, will be 488 metres long and 74 meters wide and weigh more than 600,000 tonnes when fully equipped. Its unique design will allow liquefied natural gas to be produced at sea, commercialising remote gas fields located over 200 kilometres off coast that previously would most likely have remained undeveloped. With the Prelude FLNG facility showcasing innovative thinking, new technologies and engineering solutions, it’s no wonder the project will be a key topic at DOT 2012 when it returns to Perth for only the second time in the event’s 31 year history. DOT 2012, which will bring together leading oil and gas industry representatives from around the globe to discuss the latest developments shaping the future if the industry, will have a strong FLNG focus right from the start with a welcoming address from Shell Development Australia’s Vice President for Technical and Prelude and DOT host, Bruce Steenson. The 2012 conference also features a keynote address from special guest Ann Pickard, County Chair, Shell Australia, who will discuss the role of floating technology in unlocking deepwater opportunities during the opening plenary session.

Panel discussions on deepwater projects and the status and outlook of FLNG systems will feature at DOT 2012 during which a selection of deepwater projects including the Prelude FLNG project will be profiled by panellists from Shell, TOTAL, Saipem and Statoil. The organisers of DOT 2012 have also added a unique Career Fair to this year’s schedule, giving industry representatives and educational institutions the opportunity to showcase a wide range of disciplines, graduate programs and career opportunities.
